Chapter 1

As Ezra turned to walk over to Jayson, he had already gone over to the forensic scientist, looking over the victim and the evidence around. It had looked like she was filling him in on what they had found out so far. As she got close she could start to hear them.

“Alright Brooke, what do we have?”

“This is the third similar murder this week, Jayson. I’m thinking we have a serial killer on our hands, it’s looking like each victim has similar wounds across their bodies. Our victim, Cole Richards, is found to be in his mid-40’s, similar to the last two guys. The cause of death seems to be a struggle along with bruises and lacerations where they may have been strangled by their killer.”

“It seems like our killer is going for a certain group of people. Do these victims have anything in common?”

“All that I could put together from these victims so far is that they were all from this area of Santa Cruz, along with being involved in gangs.”

“Alright, thank you Brooke.”

As Jayson had observed the scene, the more he had put together how the killer had caused his victims deaths, the more of a pattern he had seen with the killer. Signs of struggle, bruising, gashes throughout the bodies. It seemed like the killer had their own style, they weren’t choosing random victims. They made sure to repeat the same actions. Although, none of the victims were from the same gangs, and the murders had been scattered around this area of Santa Cruz. He couldn’t think of why these men had all seemed familiar to him, even though he’s never met them before. Jayson finished up with the area, and had saw the Lieutenant and an unfamiliar woman walk in his direction.

“Detective Daniels, I would like you to meet Detective Hudson. She is your new partner, make sure to help each other out, you know what to do.”

“Hello Detective Pierce, it's a pleasure to work with you.” Ezra held her hand out for Jayson to shake his hand. He had ignored it with a glance, and looked back to the lieutenant.

Detective Pierce had more of a dark, silent appearance. He didn’t seem to care how he had dressed. He looked like he had barely gotten any sleep. The eye bags under the detective’s eyes had a puffy discoloration, he looks like he had been having a rough week already.

“Lieutenant O’Brian, with all do respect sir, I would prefer to fly solo for a while.”

“It has been a month, Detective Pierce, you are going to have to work with a partner sooner or later. I am sorry for what happened but you want to continue, you’ll be working with Detective Hudson.

There had been a moment of silence between the three, as Lieutenant O’Brian had scolded Jayson, Ezra had glanced back and forth while the tension grew between them.Detective Pierce had shook his head at O’Brian and walked off back to the crime scene.

Lt. O’Brian sighed and turned back to Ezra, “You’ll have to give him a little while to adjust to a partner, he’s gone through quite a bit within the past weeks. He’ll come around but for now run over and look over the rest of the crime scene and have him fill you in, Hudson.”

“I will try my best sir, thank you.” Ezra turned to Jayson, as they investigated their first case.
