Long Day.

Long day...

No one remembers a damn thing from that day. It’s as if Noah’s Ark all of a sudden came out of hiding and decided to boost its ego once more by granting the world an encore.

An encore which was wildly expected to create a divergence from the ever present curse which was ultimately destined to create a painful reminder to all those present. The audience however, was never present, and Noah’s Ark once again sank into the depths of dark memory; archetypes sometimes divulge their presence for their own amusement it seems.

He stared at her with wild eyes whilst thinking and digesting the previous night’s revelry. She seemed comfortable lying on the beige colored carpet floor, a towel covering her light skinned and delicate body. The walls had red lines on it and it seemed as if the paint was dry and peeling from the wall.

‘Denial,’ he thought, this was ultimate denial and the eternal timeline leading to that fateful and painful recurrence of events had come and gone. It was all due to denial. Nothing more, nothing less, they only confess to those who have less; sometimes less ears than most. The illusion is by nature beautiful, if only for a short while.

‘I have to do it,’ he thought. ‘I have to finish what I started’.

Yet he could not bear the pain this decision came with which he had denied for so many days, weeks, months….

Footsteps.

It must be Jayson, he thought.

With that, his eternal birth pangs of what’s right and wrong exited his conscience and his survival instinct lit up like sudden thunder on a sunny day.

He knew this would be it, the apocalypse of his loyalty to his girlfriend and his best friend. It was either this or a return to innocence and the ever present question ‘what if’ for the rest of his life.

“I’m going out to get some coffee for us. Would you like some donuts to go with that?”

Jayson didn’t answer; he was too tired from the previous night. He sat down on the kitchen stool slowly, his face was haggard. He took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it. He enjoyed inhaling the smoke and seemed happily dazed.

“We did it man, we finally did it,” Jayson said in a monotonous tone, yet smiling as he took another drag from his cigarette.

“The jet will be leaving in 6 hours and then we’re home free and rich for the rest of our lives buddy!” Jayson shouted as he stood up and gave him a hug.

“Yeah, of course I’ll have donuts and coffee and whatever else you want. We can do whatever we want now.” Jayson left and stepped into the bathroom to take a shower.

She was still sleeping. He didn’t have the heart to wake her. He stepped into the main bedroom and took the bag with all the money and calmly stepped out the hotel room with it. ‘I better make this fast,’ he thought.
