prologue
Start writing hereY/N huffs loudly and stands, scrubbing at her face with a paint splattered hand. She opens the door, seeing the marshal and paling lightly. What had Haddie done now?
“Miss,” He pauses looking down at his clipboard with a sigh. “L/N?”
“Yes that’s me, is something wrong?” She asks worriedly, wringing her wrists and already coming up with an action plan if Haddie was in the hospital.
“You’re not registered to this dorm room.” What?!
“What? There must be some mistake—I-I’ve been here for a month with Haddie Johnson!” Y/N explains, her face paling even more. Was she going to get kicked out? The marshal only sighs, ripping off a piece of paper and handing it to her.
“You have five hours to be out of this dorm.” He says, walking off down the hall. Y/N stands there, her mouth hanging open like it’s on a loose hinge.

Y/N leg bounces her leg in nervousness, waiting for Steve to come into the room. Sure enough, the large, blond man comes into the room. She stands instantly, her mouth ready to start blubbering apologies.
“What happened?” He asks, crossing his arms.
“T-There was some stupid mix up with the dorms, a-and they said I had five hours to get out and find a new place, b-but Stevie, I didn’t do anything! I-I just got kicked out for no reason and they’re not listening!” Y/N explains, feeling her eyes burn with unshed tears. He sighs, running a hand over his face.
“You need a place, right? At least until you find your own apartment or another dorm?” Y/N nods, feeling ridiculously guilty to ask her one and only friend to house her for at least six months or so. Lord knows Haddie wouldn’t give a shit. Y/N sits back down on the couch, rubbing at her wrists slightly, only enough to create a little red abrasion. Steve bites his lip, sitting next to her and pulling away her hand.
“Doll, I didn’t say that you couldn’t stay. It’s not trouble, honest,” He murmurs, thumbing over her knuckles in a brotherly way. “I just gotta clear out that study we don’t use, ’s just full of boxes from when I moved in. No big deal, doll.” Steve says, patting the back of her hand with a kind smile.
“T-Thank you, Stevie.” Y/N whispers, leaning into him and wrapping her arms around his waist, resting her hands on his shoulder blades as she listens to his heartbeat.
“Anytime, Y/N. But I gotta tell you something.”
“What, Steve?” She asks with a small frown.
“I got a roommate.“…
