Read up to Ch. 7

"I couldn't complete this story and truthfully, I doubt any editor would get past the first few pages.. The most promising part was the prologue, Although the name-dropping was a bit tedious at times, it did show us what type of narrator we were dealing with; someone who notices brands and makes judgments based on those brands. We see this type of style in Urban lit, although the rest of the story did not follow that pattern. The pacing was good too - details revealed slowly, after we became familiar with the scene. Overall, the rest of the story read more like an outline. Scenes are not fully fleshed out and we only get quick glimpses of what is happening. Setting is mostly absent too and the dialogue came off as cliched and unnecessary. The writer makes the fatal mistake of assuming that we know and care as much about the characters and the story as he does. We don't."

Writer with no idea on how to write AT ALL!

"Needs to do some research on how to write a novel. The glaring problems were so glaring it was hard to finish the story. 1. The name dropping in the first section was like a red carpet commentary. Cut down on all the brand names. Only use when necessary to make a point. We don't need to know which designer each man is wearing. Does it even matter that he is wearing a rolex? How does that play into the story? 2. To many "talking heads" scenarios. Don't just have line after line of dialogue with no action. What are they doing while talking? Are they just mannequins with no emotion or movements? What is going on during this conversation. 3. The sex scene. Was simply telling. (showing vs telling) 4. The scenes jumped all around. It felt like we were in a time machine and only visiting what was going on for a few seconds then on to something else completely unrelated. There was no smooth beginning, middle and end for each chapter. Research into how to write a novel would give the author an understanding of how each chapter should be structured. Basically, the entire novel felt like an attempt by someone who hasn't read a lot of books and hasn't taken any time to learn how a story should be structured, how dialogue should be written, or any research on writing at all. Perhaps this was a beginning attempt for a class on writing before the class began, in order to compare to one written at the end of class. Sort of a before and after comparison of what the class has taught the student. Otherwise, there is little hope for this novel as it needs a total rewrite by someone who understands how to write a novel. Even then, there is no plot, structure, emotion, character development, and consistent point of view. Nothing that an editor could work with at all."
