Beautiful written story and wonderfully complex world-building

" I've been a fan of K.K.S for a while now. She is just one of those truly talented writers here on Inkitt. And once again I am not disappointed. The world-building in this story is phenomenal — it feels rich, layered, and entirely unique. The magic-wielding and monk-like Tolari, the powerful Canastra witches, the deadly Kelminar, and even a couple of shapeshifters all weave together into a setting that feels alive and dangerous. The characters are just as well-developed. Sarasae, the Red Wraith, is a fascinating mix of strength and fragility — her fear of being hurt again makes her cruel at times, and yet you can’t help but sympathise with her. Kurik, a Soul-eater, portrays a quiet, unwavering love for her, despite her keeping him prisoner for over a century. It is a love that is heartbreaking and powerful. The plot is tight and emotionally gripping. You find yourself hurting for Kurik at times. The tension between Sarasae’s need to stay strong, to hold the world together and Kurik’s need to prove he is not her enemy creates an addictive push-and-pull that keeps you turning the pages. And that moral grayness — Sarasae condemning him for killing while she herself steals souls — adds so much depth. If you’re looking for a story that offers a fully immersive world, complex characters, and a plot that won’t let go, this is the one to read."
