Chapter 1

101.9 FM

“Welcome back to 101.9 FM. This is Andrea Swift, and it is time for…drum roll…Operation Romance Contest!”

Uproarious canned applause followed the announcement, joined with Andrea’s infectious laughter.

“I know, I know, I love it too. I am telling God’s honest truth when I say sharing this segment with you is my favorite time of the week. Sneaky, cheeky, borderline invasive romantic endeavors on behalf of our loved ones—It just doesn’t get any better than that. For all you first-timers, here’s the lowdown.”

The radio presenter lowered her voice, taking on a dramatic, sultry tone.

“Anonymous listeners send in bios of a family or friend in need of love. A team at 101.9 matches the best of the best, and once a week, two names get announced. One week, my friends. If the selected couple link up like cooing lovebirds, each applicant goes into a lottery for an all-expenses-paid holiday in an undisclosed location. It might make a nice honeymoon gift—but no judgments if you keep it as a reward for a week of exceptionally hard matchmaking work.

“Before we hear last week’s result—”

Actual drumroll.

“This week’s winners—Skylar101 and Trumpetman! Good luck and happy hunting.”
