I want to change!? No… I need to change, but how? This could possibly be one of the hardest things we do as humans. How does one cha be their habits, their traits, the way they are currently in life? The answer to that is from the inside out.
When a builder builds a home do they put up new siding and paint or a roof and landscape so that the outside looks nice? No, they clear the land and prepare to build first. They get a blue print or a plan in place and know what they want to accomplish. We may think that changing things to “look” nice to everyone else, the things people see first is what we need to focus on. For anything to change besides appearances and for things to last this is not the case.
The second thing a builder does is to level the ground and pour a strong foundation. We must build upon a solid choice that this is what we want. If it is a wishy washy half ass foundation then there is the chance for crumbling and we will probably have to refurbish our base later on down the road. We must be prepared to make concrete changes in life and not a sandy platform to be washed away.
Third on our list of building. We start to get our supplies together. What are we going to need for our change. What needs do we have to make this transformation possible? Do we need things to build us up? Do we need things to hold us together? Or maybe we need more tools to get the job done.
Fourth, the building process truly begins. We take our supplies and we start to form what we incision in our heads. We change the things we want to slowly and precisely. We have have made the choice, got the will to do it, received some supplies, and now we must start to lay the framework. This can also be related back to our bodies. Just like the framework of a house we are now building up the bones of what makes us up.
Now that we have a framework to guide us on our build we move onto the fifth step. Building a roof to make our framework together and safe. These are the things in life that keep us together and keep our frame from crumbling. What will we use to keep us dry during those rainy windy days?
6, lets run add the doors, windows, and the utilities. Lets get some things in place in life that feed us and help us live the way we want to. We must make doors for people to come into our lives, windows for others to look in. Just as one would run water electric, and sewer we must place things in our lives to feed us. This can be so many things. The gym, our friends, our family, healthy eating, healthy habits, washing away the bad, church, anything that makes us grow.
Seven, we must put the drywall up and start to make the outside and inside of our house strong. We must solidify the framework. It is now us and taking shape. We must also protect the utilities and things that make us grow. How do we keep those things from becoming damaged, clogged, or in working? By protecting them and making them a priority.
8, we now must start placing the final touches on the inside. We add the fixtures, plugs, and faucets. We are taking our home, ourselves and making it functional and beautiful. We must put all the things we’ve done thus far to use.
Nine, now that we, I mean our home… is functional and beautiful on the inside we can make it beautiful on the outside. We add the siding, paint, and landscape. Others can see that we have built something great. This doesn’t mean everyone will like your design however they cannot deny that you put the work in to build and change what you wanted to be. We can even celebrate and have a housewarming party. This is the first true milestone.
Lastly, number 10. We maintain, we repair, remodel as needed, and we keep home nice. We have worked and worked to get to this point. We have changed things from the inside out. Now we must work to keep it the way we want it to be.
