Chapter 1
Aurora
Humanity, human life, it's all so fragile. And although humans have discovered so much over the years, they are still unbelievably naive to the world and what walks among it. See they always think big, what is inside the vast ocean, whats out in space? When in reality the bigger picture is right under their noses, walking right beside them everyday.
Their friends, coworkers, girlfriends, boyfriends. Right there, but hidden from society. Now you might ask, whats hidden? What am I talking about? And the answer to that is bigger than I have time for, so let me make it short and sweet. You see, since the world became a planet, there were four species that walked among it, before God even created Adam & Eve.
There were the Angels, originally supposed to stay in heaven as warriors and protectors, but as soon as God created something more important, he needed his most trusted creation here on Earth. Then there are of course Demons, the evil to the good, Satan's most loved creation, put on the Earth to battle the Angels. But they didn't battle for long once the Vampires and Witches were created, another addition to Earth's food chain.
Vampires were the powerful preditors that were mostly primal, great soldiers in any battle. Witches were the smartest, most powerful, not used for their strength, no no, but for what they could do. The last most perfect piece of the puzzle, and for years those were the four species that kept the world spinning.
And to keep everyone from killing each other, the Grand Councel was created, the most powerful creature from each species would sit in each councel chair. Representing their kind, and together they created the laws that our species still live by to this day, it wasn't easy. There were wars and battles fought over their stubborness, but eventually they would reach agreements, and there was one rule.
The one rule that was put above all the others, once God put Adam and Eve in the picture, and that was, we are all to stay hidden from the humans, while living among them. Vampires, quench your hunger, Angels, hide your wings, Demons, supress your rage and power, and Witches, hide your gifts. For if even one human sees what we are, we will all seese to exist.
Fast forward, many many many years, you have me, Aurora Vincent, 18 years old, half Angel half Witch. An abomination among my people, I don't belong among the Angels, nor the Witches. One of the laws made long ago, was that no species were allowed to mate with the other, it was punishable by death.
So that means I've never met my parents, nor do I know who they were. I was raised by Uncle, an Angel. And for years our lives were pretty simple, he would go work at the councel capital, and I would go to school. But now that I've graduated high school, I'm about to start my freshman year of College.
And you would think I'd be excited, but I'm going from a small high school full of mostly humans. To a huge University, full of all of the species on this Earth. And since I'm unwanted as well as a freak, I don't think I'm going to fit in well. But all my things are packed up, so I don't have a choice, and it's been my dream to become a Doctor, to help people.
Standing in my room, looking at all my things in boxes, I feel almost sad. I grew up in this room, this room was my safe haven when everything in my life went wrong. The place I could relax, read a book by my window as the sun went down. Now I was ready, ready to set out into the world and discover who I am, who I want to be.
"I can't believe you're actually leaving tomorrow. My little niece, all grown up."
I smile at my uncle, a complete stud honestly. He was the uncle that all the older women wanted. Dark brown hair, a perfect scruff on his face, beautiful blue eyes, toned and tall. He's an Angel alright, and the ladies can't get enough of him.
"Just because I'm 4'7 doesn't mean you can call me little."
He laughs "No matter how tall you are, or how old you become, you'll always be my little niece. Now are we ready to get this stuff loaded up? Gotta get it sent to your campus in England, after all you're an Oxford girl now."
I laugh "I'm still trying to get used to that, being accepted into Oxford is the hardest thing I've ever done."
"Well you've earned it, so don't think about it too much. And your plane leaves in an hour, so get your stuff together."
My uncle takes a box and heads downstairs, I decide to take a quick shower before grabbing my stuff to go. 15 minutes later I step out and look in the mirror, I almost don't recongize the green eyed red head staring at me. I think my freckles on my face have doubled over the years, I use to count them, but now it's kinda pointless.
I hear a knock on my door "The car is ready Aurora, time to go."
I snap out of my daze and get dressed, grabbing my stuff I head downstairs and out to the car my uncle is sitting in. Hopping in the passenger seat, I smile at my uncle and buckle in.
"Have everything you need?"
I nod "Yup, all set."
We take off and head to the airport, onto my new life. Too bad it's raining, otherwise this would be a pretty good day. Soon enough we arrive at the airport, my uncle parks infront of the entrance and looks at me.
"Go kick some ass and earn that degree, and just know, your mom and dad would be so proud of you. I know I am."
Thats the first time in awhile I've heard him mention my mom and dad, he rarely talks about them. I often wonder If they would be proud of me and how hard I've worked.
"Thank you uncle, that means more to me than you know."
He smiles "Now go on, your new life awaits you."
He didn't have to tell me twice, I hugged him goodbye then grabbed my stuff. In a blink of an eye I was on the plane, hearing the voice on the intercom saying buckle up as we head to London, England. I immediately put in my headphones and drown out the entire plane ride, on my own for the very first time in my life.
And just like that, we're there. I'm sure it was a long plane ride, but I wasn't really paying attention. Grabbing my stuff, I get off the plane and head out, waving a cab over to take me to the campus.
"Where to miss?"
"The University of Oxford please."
"You do know that's an hour away right?"
"Yes that's fine, I can cover the cost."
I saved up for awhile working at our local cafe, making sure I could cover my first few months on my own. That is, until I get a new job near the campus.
"New student then? Where you from?"
"New York."
"The big apple huh? What's that like?"
"Not sure, I didn't live in the city, I lived in the more calmer parts of New York."
The driver leaves the conversation at that, and the rest of the drive was silent. But it wasn't too long that we pulled up to the front of the school. It was beautiful, and definitely old, but that only added to it's beauty. I handed the driver my card to pay for the ride, he swiped it then I was off. I headed inside and over to what looked like the front desk.
"Excuse me, where are the freshman dorms?"
"Name?"
"Uh, Aurora Vincent."
Her eyes go big "I'm sorry, what was that last name again?"
"Vincent?"
"Holy shit."
"What? What is it?"
She immediately puts her head down and crabs a key, handing it to me. "N-nothing, heres your key, your room number is 314, you can find your schedule online and just follow this map to the dorms."
That was the weirdest encounter with someone I've ever had. Why did she freak out over my last name? What was so special about it? Replaying the conversation in my head, I head over to the dorms. Finally finding my room, I unlock it and head in. Someone's stuff was already there, I'm guessing my new roommates stuff, who's not even here right now.
I set my stuff down and look out the window, I see that it overlooks the quartyard, a huge but beautiful quartyard. I sigh, here's to new beginnings.
