Quidditch World Cup

"Or perhaps in Slytherin, You’ll make your real friends, those cunning folk use any means to achieve their ends.“-The Sorting Hat.

“Get up, Ivan,” said my father, “It’s time to get ready for the World Cup!”

“Come on, Dad, it’s not even daybreak yet!” I said annoyed.

“Ivan you’re not even packed!” said my Dad looking at my empty bag.

“We’re wizards Dad, we can get packed in a blink of an eye,” I said lying back down.

“Wingardium Leviosa!” said my Dad pointing his wand at me.

I started floating in the air at least 3 feet above my bed. He moved me so I was right above the ground.

“Dad this isn’t funny,” I said my arms waving.

“I don’t know... Kind of,” said my Dad smirking.

He dropped me on the ground. I fell with a loud thud and my Dad started laughing.

“Ok son, I’ll get your clothes packed, take a shower, get ready, and head downstairs your Mom has breakfast waiting,” said my Dad.

I went into my bathroom and got undressed to take my shower.

20 minutes later I came out dripping wet. I brushed my hair trying to make it look as perfect as possible. I got dressed and rushed downstairs.

“We thought you were never going to get up,” said my little brother.

“How are you up before me!?” I said loud.

“Cause he, unlike you, set an alarm,” said my Mom sitting me down.

She put some toast and eggs in front of me.

“Who do you think’s going to win?” asked my father.

“Ireland, no doubt, they have the best chasers in the league,” I said.

“But Krum is the best seeker in the league,” responded my father.

“Krum is the only good player, the rest of the Bulgarian team sucks,” I said leaning back.

“When is the last time you spoke to Krum?” asked my Mom.

“Not since Durmstrang, which I’m fine with,” I said bitterly.

“Ready for your 2nd year at Hogwarts?” asked my Mom.

“Definitely, Cyan has been too from all the owls he’s sent me,” I said smiling.

“What about you, Mishnev, ready for your first year?” he asked my little brother.

“Definitely, Ivan sounds like it was a lot of fun,” he said excited.

I didn’t tell my parents everything that happened last year. I didn’t tell them about the Shrieking Shack, Lupin being a werewolf, or even about Peter Pettigrew.

“Something really exciting is happening this year, though,” said my father smirking.

“What?” asked my brother and I at the same time.

“Hush now, don’t tell them anything about that,” said my Mom hitting my father’s shoulder.

My brother looked at us frantically trying to figure out what they were talking about. I thought of every possible thing they could be talking about but couldn't think of anything.

“Okay boys, it’s time to get started to the portkey,” said my father wiping his mouth.

I quickly got up and we headed out the door. It was a long walk to the Portkey. It was around midday when we arrived.

There was a book on a lone stump on top of the hill.

“Uh, Dad, is that the Portkey?” I asked approaching the stump.

“Yes it is, come on Mishnev,” said my father approaching me.

We all held the book and I felt like I was going to be sick. We started spinning wildly until we popped into the campgrounds.

We approached a muggle man.

“Masovitch family, 3 people.” said my father adjusting his vest.

“Masovitch... Masovitch... Masovitch, oh there you are! Plot 34,” said the kind muggle.

“Thanks,” said my father.

“Hey, real quick do you know why there’s so many people this is the most activity this place ever had,” said the muggle.

My father shrugged and ushered us along. We started looking for our plot. The campgrounds were crowded and wizards and witches were teleporting. People were running into each other and the foreign languages started to give me a headache.

“Plot 34!” yelled my father excited.

He quickly looked around and then waved his wand and in the blink of an eye the tent was put up. I walked inside and it had a very spacious inside for a regular sized wizard tent.

“4 rooms, 2 bathrooms, this should be more than enough room,” said my father proud of his purchase.

I sat down on a very comfortable chair setting my suitcase down beside me.

“Ivan, relax later, put your suitcase up now,” said my father making the chair throw me out of it.

I quickly walked up to my spacious green room. The bed was canopied and soft.

“I’m going to look around,” I told my father.

“Ok, but be back quickly,” he told me.

I exited and I saw a couple of girls talking. They looked around my age. Both were very pretty but one more so than the other. I approached them.

“Hey, who do you think’s going to win?” I asked smiling.

“Oh hey,” said the prettier one.

She had brown curly hair down to her upper back around chest length. She had very blue eyes and fair skin.

“Bulgaria,” said the other girl cross.

“Ireland,” said the prettier one.

“Yeah I think Ireland too,” I said agreeing.

“Ha, Bulgaria has the best seeker in the league, Victor Krum is going to stomp on Ireland,” said the other girl.

“So you’re a Krum fangirl,” I said leaning to the side.

The prettier girl laughed. The other crossed her arms.

“Don’t mind Madison,” said the prettier one laughing, “She’s a seeker she’s not a chaser so she doesn’t understand their importance.”

“Haha, yeah, are you a chaser? So am I! My first year at Durmstrang Krum and I were on the same team, the best chaser and seeker in Durmstrang at the time,” I said trying to impress both of them.

The prettier one nodded.

“We should really get going, Hallie,” said Madison.

“One second, Madison,” said Hallie.

“Do you still go to Durmstrang,” asked Hallie.

“Nah, I only went to it for my first year, I then transferred to Hogwarts. I prefer Hogwarts over Durmstrang,” I said smiling.

“Really? Mads and I-,” she started but was quickly interrupted.

“Uh, Hallie, I see a uhh... Familiar face,” said Madison looking to her left.

Hallie quickly looked and cursed, “I’m so sorry, but I got to go. It was nice meeting you... I never caught your name.”

“Oh yeah! Sorry, name’s Ivan,” I said smiling.

She smiled and then started walking away in the opposite direction the familiar person was. I walked back into my tent waiting for the Quidditch World Cup to start.

“Ready Ivan?” asked my father the next day putting on his red robe in support to Bulgaria.

“Sure am,” I said adjusting my green robe.

“Mishnev, how about you?” asked my father to Mishnev when he came running out of his room.

“Yeah!” he yelled his red robe flying.

“Got your tickets?” he asked us.

I nodded but Mishnev had a blank look on his face.

“I’ll go get his,” I said running to Mishnev’s room.

I quickly found the ticket on the cedar nightstand. I quickly exited the room back to my father.

“Ivan hold onto your little brother’s ticket, we don’t want him losing it,” said my father slightly annoyed.

I put his ticket in my pocket, and we quickly headed out of the tent. It was crowded and I followed my father into the crowd. We quickly continued to push each other trying to get past.

We after a long time of waiting finally made it into the stadium and tried to find our box.

“We’re in a VIP suite,” said my father, “So it’ll be on top.”

After climbing a lot of stairs we ran into Malfoy and his family.

“Masovitch,” he said greeting me.

“Gee... Malfoy, what a pleasant surprise,” I said kind of blankly.

“What box are you in?” asked Malfoy smugly.

“The other box,” I said as I ushered my father along.

We finally found our suite and my father laid back with his red Bulgaria robe untidy.

The Ireland team came out in their bright green robe and I started cheering. We weren’t the only ones in the suite, the suite was dedicated to the prestigious alumni of Bulgaria.

My Dad was ranked best chaser in the world during one of his eight years on the team.

“Excuse me, waitress, 3 Butterbeers if you please,” said my father, “Oh and boys want anything to eat?”

“Um, fish and chips,” I said.

Soon the Bulgarian team came out and everyone in the suite was cheering. I looked to my left and I saw the girl from earlier sitting down in a different suite. The match was now on and I started looking intently.

It happened like a blur. The Ireland chasers were swerving in and out scoring goal after goal while Krum was looking for the snitch for Bulgaria. The Ireland team was leading by 200 until Krum caught the snitch. He knew they couldn’t beat Ireland chasers so he had to get the snitch quickly.

I may not like Krum but he has a high Quidditch IQ.

We quickly headed back to our tent with our souvenirs. We were relaxing in our tent discussing the game. We heard a scream and quickly ran out of our tent.

“What’s happening?” asked my father to a stranger.

He didn’t respond and continued to run. We saw muggles floating in the air and with the people making them float were cloaked and hooded in black.

My father and I spoke in Russian as fast as we could so my little brother wouldn’t understand.

“Pozhirateli smerti," (Death Eaters) said my father to me.

"Vy uvereny?" (You sure) I asked my father.

"Polozhitel'nyy," (Positive) said my father worried, "Mne nuzhno, chtoby ty otvel Misnevu v les zhdi menya tam." (I need you to take Mishnev to the forest and wait for me there).

"I can fight," I said in English.

"Nyet," said my father rushing off towards the death eaters.

"Follow me quickly Mishnev, stay close," I said pulling my wand out.

We quickly started running as fast as we could. I looked and see tents flying due to the death eaters. A tent was lifted off the ground and thrown at us. Mishnev ducked but I didn't have enough time.

I fell on the ground my leg hurting.

"Oh my God, Ivan!" said my brother freaked out.

I looked at my leg to find a piece of wood sticking into it. Blood was oozing out as I bit my scream. I saw the Death Eaters were approaching this place rapidly.

"Mishnev! Run!" I yelled.

He hesitated but then broke off leaving me there. I started crawling on the floor one of my my hands clutching my bleeding leg. I grabbed a piece of fabric and wrapped it above my wound.

I got up slowly and fell back down. I tried again but fell again.

"Ivan!?" I heard a familiar voice say.

"Hallie," I said facing her and Madison.

"Oh my God," she said quietly facing my leg.

"Need help?" asked Madison.

"Yeah, that would be nice," I said.

Hallie and Madison helped me up. I started limping with their help eventually at the edge of the forest I was able to limp without help. We continued to venture deeper until Hallie stopped us.

"Ivan... You're losing a lot of blood we should stay here for a second," she said concerned for me.

I leaned against a tree and held my leg. Hallie and Madison were discussing quietly to each other. I continued to hold my leg when Hallie approached me and got on her knees.

"Ivan, you lost a lot of blood, my Mom taught me some magic to help when it comes to helping heal wounds," she said slowly.

"I see," I said quietly.

"I'm going to have to get that wood out of you," she said quietly.

I straightened up, "Ok just hurry up..."

"AHHH!" I yelled opening my eyes.

A sharp searing pain coursed through my leg for a brief second and the pain started to fade away along with the hole turning into a wide scar. Hallie summoned bandages from her wand tip and they wrapped tightly across my leg.

"Sorry," she said.

"I'm fine," I said back, "Thanks, Hallie."

We sat there looking at each other. It was like nothing I ever felt. I forgot all about Mishnev running off, the death eaters, my father running after them, and I even forgot about my leg just by sitting there with Hallie.

"Uhh Hallie, incoming," said Madison turning to look at us.

A figure was approaching us rapidly. I managed to distinguish his features in the night.

He was a tall and decently well-built boy with pale icy eyes. He had a strong chin and strong features. He had brown well-kept hair which constantly bounced as he walked.

"Hallie," he said approaching us.

"JJ, go away," said Hallie staying by my side.

His eyes darted to mine and I stared into his pale eyes.

"Who's he?" he said rudely.

I started to talk but Hallie beat me to it.

"I said go away, we don't want you here," said Hallie getting up from my side.

"Can we at least talk about this!?" he yelled.

It was more of a demand than anything else. He grabbed her arm and I finally decided to act.

"She said go away, friend," I said weakly at him.

He let go of her roughly and approached me.

"Who the hell are you?" he said.

"Just a guy who was trying to enjoy his vacation same as you," I said.

"Stay out of this, this is between my girlfriend and me" he said showing me the palm of his hand.

Girlfriend?

"Girlfriend? Looks to me like you've been dumped my friend," I said smirking.

"Screw you!" he said not even looking at me.

"Screw you," I repeated getting up in a standing position.

He started approaching me and I approached slowly to him. I saw Madison help Hallie up in the corner of my eye.

"Hey!" Madison yelled.

We both looked at her. She was angry and pointing her wand straight at JJ.

He called the girls something under his breath,

"I'll see you soon," he told me, "We'll continue this later, Hallie."

He quickly rushed away fading into the night.

"Mishev..." I said remembering that I had a little brother.

I started walking but Hallie stopped me.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"When I got the stake in the leg I told my brother to run and I need to find him," I said explaining as fast as I could.

"Madison, will you help us find him?" Hallie asked.

"Sure," she said.

"I think we should split up, if one of y'all finds him send up green sparks," I said.

"What's his name again?" asked Madison.

"Mishnev," I said.

"You're coming with me, Ivan, you're too injured to go alone," Hallie said.

"I'm fine," I responded.

"I know," she said smugly going in the same direction as me

Madison broke away from us calling for Mishnev as Hallie and I walked doing the same.

"I think I owe you an explanation," said Hallie.

"You don't owe me anything," I said stepping over a root.

"All the same I think you should know something," she said.

"Don't feel forced on my part," I said.

"JJ is a complicated kid. He has a ego a mile long and kind of a jerk," she said.

"Then why did you date him? Mishnev!" I said.

"I don't know, he acted nice in front of me. I was attracted by his appearance and I was willing to turn a blind eye to his flaws at the time. I was stupid for that. He eventually started being a jerk to my friends and eventually to me. I hated him for a full month before we broke up," she said somberly.

"Sounds like some guy, huh," I said quietly.

"Yeah, he was just a complete jerk to everyone by the end of our relationship, and he's been trying to get back together with me" she finished.

"Dang," I said.

"Now you made an enemy of him," she said sounding worried.

"I'll be fine besides he can't do anything after tonight cause we all go to our separate places in our own countries," I said a little somberly cause I knew after tonight I wouldn't see Hallie again.

Hallie smiled back and then all of a sudden I saw green sparks in the night sky. I ran as fast as I could with my leg and we eventually found Madison with Mishnev beside her.

"You okay, Mishnev?" I asked.

He nodded quietly. We stayed in the forest for about an hour until my father found Mishnev and I. He took Madison and Hallie back with us to find their parents. Once they were reunited with their parents I looked over my shoulder to see a final glimpse of Hallie. She smiled at me and I gave a final wave to her.
