Prologue
They called him many things—sorcerer, demon, mage—yet none knew his real name.
It was said that if you saw the Man, your end was near. He came to reap the souls that had more to give, or steal a treasure you could no longer remember. Some said he was a myth, a fairy tale made up to scare children. Still some claimed he was a god, sent from the heavens every icy winter.
And others—the ones who were wiser—said he was a being of power, and feared him.
