My Cursed Town
“I wish I was DEAD.”
It was the summer of 2020. It was the last day of school and everyone was talking about how they were going to have a “hot girl summer”, but for me that wasn’t the case. This story I’m about to tell you I wish it never happened, but it did and now I have no friends because of it.
“Goodbye Kate!” Elizabeth said as I walked out of the door. I turned around and waved back to her as I was getting into the car. After I got home I had already done my homework when I started dinner and overheard the news. “12 dead after 19 year old Savanna Manning stabs them to death then kills herself.” My grandma used to say the devil sure is working hard, and right now I have to agree. Most people say it’s a curse to live in this town, but I don’t know what to believe. Here it’s hard to blame something on a curse when the people don’t make an effort to change things. I just hope I’ll be the one who makes it out of here. “Aspen time for dinner” I yelled while making our plates and setting them on the table. We had both just sat down when there was a knock on the door.
“Are you going to get that or do you want me to” Aspen asked,
“It’s fine, stay here and eat your food I’ll be back” I sighed as I walked towards the door.
“Hi Mrs.Robinson what are you doing out so late?”
“There was something shadowy in your window so I came to check on you and your brother” she explained.
Not even registering what she had said I told her thank you and closed the door as she walked down the driveway. After dinner we went to watch Netflix and eat popcorn. I woke up to the sound of glass breaking “Aspen was that you?” I went to his room and there Aspen was sound asleep. What the hell, had someone broken in just now? As I cautiously entered the living room I made out the tiny specks of glass on the floor.
“Whos there!” I yelled, scared that someone would reply; but no one answering was even more frightening.
Was it gone? It could be in the kitchen. Maybe I should just turn around and go back to my room. I turned the corner to the kitchen and there she was the same girl from the news with a blade in her hand, but how, the reporter said she was dead, that she had committed suicide. There was no time to figure it out I had to get me and Aspen out of this house. She turned around and I ran, as fast as I could to my brothers room. “ASPEN wake up. We have to go. NOW!”
