Chapter 1

β€œViolet! Wake your lazy ass up!” James shouted from his sister’s doorway.

β€œIf you value your life, then give me 5 more minutes,” she growled at him.

β€œWe have to be at the station in half an hour!” he shouted, yanking her duvets off her.

β€œTell Mum that my head hurts,” she groaned, pulling them back over her.

James rolled his eyes at his sister and picked her up off her bed. β€œCome on sis, we have to go.”

β€œPut me down James! I’m telling Mum!” Violet resisted as her brother carried her out of her room.

β€œJames darling, put your sister down,” Euphemia Potter told her son.

James sighed and put Violet down. She would have smacked him if her parents weren't right there.

"Violet honey, are you ready for school?" Fleamont Potter asked his daughter.

Violet nodded. "Packed last night, I'll go get my stuff," she smiled, going back up to her room.

As Violet left the room, Fleamont knelt down and put his hand on his son's shoulders.

"James, I need you to keep an eye on your sister. It's your fourth year, and her third. You guys are growing up. You're getting stronger and I'm sure ladies are lining up at your dormroom. But Violet is growing up too. I need you to make sure that no boys mess around with my daughter."

James nodded, glad to be trusted wign a "mission" from his father. He always kept an eye on her anyway but now he was gonna be extra watchful.

"Fleamont, don't be like that! Violet is a responsible young lady and I'm sure she's able to look out for herself," Euphemia said, rolling her eyes at her husband.

"What about me?" Violet smiled as she walked back downstairs to her family.

"Nothing darling. James! Go get your stuff," Euphemia said while she hugged her daughter tightly.

James went up to his room and Violet went from hugging her mother to hugging her father.

β€œYou make us proud, alright?” He smiled, kissing her forehead.

Violet smiled widely and nodded. β€œOf course!” She beamed.

Fleamont smiled and hugged her tightly. β€œThat’s a good girl.”

Violet smiled and let her mother put her hair into a braid.

James came back downstairs with his trunk and stuff.

β€œAlright, both of you should know how to behave, right?” Fleamont asked.

β€œYes father,” James and Violet said in sync.

β€œGood, now let’s get in the car,” Euphemia smiled.

β€œMuggle transportation?” Violet smiled as they walked out of their front door.

When they got to King’s Cross station, they looked around.

β€œSirius said he would get here earlier,” James sighed.

β€œIt’s fine, you’ll see him on the train,” Violet rolled her eyes at her brother.

β€œNo! It’s not fine!” James said walking with his parents and sister to platforms 9 and 10.

When they got to the platforms James and Violet stopped. Violet looked at her parents sadly.

She always loved going back to school but always hated leaving her parents.

Violet ran to her parents and threw her arms around them.

Fleamont chuckled and hugged her back. β€œIt’s alright darling, you’ll see us on the holidays.”

Violet held them tighter and kissed their foreheads. β€œI’m gonna miss you guys…” she muttered.

β€œWe’re gonna miss you too, Princess,” Euphemia said holding Violet tightly.

β€œCome on! Hurry up,” James groaned, waiting for his sister.

β€œJamie, come say bye to your parents,” Euphemia said, stretching her arms widely.

James groaned. β€œMum, I’m not a child anymore,” he whined.

β€œJames Potter! Come hug your parents goodbye right now,” Fleamont said in a stern voice.

James groaned and slowly walked over to his parents and sister.

Violet pulled him in and nudged his head. β€œGod, you’re pretty short,” she laughed.

β€œI’m taller than you!” He said, fixing his hair because she had messed it up. Or made it look better.

β€œYeah but I’m short,” she shrugged.

β€œMum! Violet’s calling me short!” James complained.

Euphemia shook her head and sighed. β€œCome on kids, onto the platform we go,” she said.

Violet grabbed her trolley and ran into the barrier between platforms 9 and 10.

James ran after his sister and smiled as he ran into the barrier.

Fleamont and Euphemia smiled as they followed their children.

Violet beamed as she saw the Hogwarts Express. She was excited to go back but also horrified.

Over the summer she had started thinking about James’s friends…a lot. A bit too much.

During the school years James had introduced his friends to Violet and they got along fairly well.

Sometimes Remus would help Violet with some of her homework if she needed it and if she was lucky Sirius would let her in on some of his pranks.

All of this and they were in completely different houses.

James and his friends were all in Gryffindor while Violet was in Slytherin. How this came to be? Everyone in Hogwarts seems to ask that. But no one gets their answer.

β€œViolet? Violet!!” She heard a voice say as it brought her back to where she was. King’s Cross station.

β€œSorry, huh?” She mumbled looking to her right. There was Remus Lupin. He was smiling and holding his arms open for her.

She smiled and hugged him. β€œHello Remus!” She beamed as she wrapped her arms around him.

She couldn’t help but notice what he smells like. When she hugged him she had inhaled a bit of his scent. Cedar. Leather. Tea. Firewood. Jasmine. And honey.

β€œHow have you been?” Remus asked Violet.

He too had inhaled a bit of her scent. Cherry. Roses. Citrus. Vanilla. And cinnamon.

β€œGood! And yourself?” She asked smiling. She had to stare at the floor because she couldn’t stare at his face too long.

If she did, she would notice too much. His freckles, his eyes, his smile, his hair, his scars, the way he bit his lip when he spoke to her.

β€œI’ve been good as well, James told me about how well you did last year. Good job,” he smiled, nudging Violet.

β€œOh,” she muttered. James talked about her to his friends? β€œIt was nothing really,” she shrugged.

β€œAre you sure? Cause over half of your year didn’t do nearly as well as you,” he said.

Violet was about to respond but James came and hugged Remus. β€œHey! How have you been? I missed you, mate!” he said.

β€œGood, I’ve missed you too,” Remus laughed, returning the hug.

β€œDo you know where Sirius is? He said he would get here early!” James asked.

Remus shook his head. β€œSorry mate, I haven’t seen him,” he answered.

Fleamont and Euphemia came back and smiled at their children as they said their goodbyes.

β€œBehave yourselves, listen to Remus, and no more pranks,” Euphemia said as she hugged her children, directing her last instruction to James.

β€œYeah, yeah,” James said, hugging his parents back.

β€œBye Mum, bye Dad,” Violet smiled, hugging them tightly.

β€œKeep an eye on them Remus,” Fleamont said, patting Remus’s head.

β€œDon’t worry Mr. Potter, I will,” Remus smiled, waving to them.

They left and the children boarded the train. They found a compartment and put all their stuff above their seats.

Violet sat down next to her brother, across from Remus.

β€œSo, are you excited for your third year, Violet?” Remus asked as he got comfortable in his seat.

β€œOh, definitely! I can’t wait to go back to Transfiguration class, I loved that,” Violet smiled.

β€œWith Minnie?? Are you crazy?” James asked, shaking his head, β€œI like potions better.”

β€œYou suck at potions!” Remus said, glaring at James.

β€œI do not!!” James protested, crossing his arms. Classic James, always denying the truth.

β€œAnything from the trolley, dears?” The trolley witch asked as she passed by.

β€œWe’re good,” James, Violet, and Remus all said at once.

The witch nodded and walked ahead, going onto the next compartment.

They talked about the teachers and predicted what would happen during the next year and Violet slowly fell asleep.

She leaned against James’s shoulder and used him as a pillow.

β€œIs she asleep?” James asked Remus not wanting to move and check just in case she was.

Remus nodded. β€œSound asleep,” he laughed quietly.

He looked at Violet as she slept peacefully. She looked so…pretty. Some hair fell in front of her face and Remus resisted the urge to get up, walk over, and brush it out of her beautiful face.

β€œWhat’s up, idiots?” Sirius laughed as he walked in the compartment.

β€œAh, Black, how nice of you to join us,” James chuckled softly.

β€œI see the princess has fallen asleep,” Sirius smiled as he looked at Violet.

β€œHello,” Peter said as he walked in the compartment and sat down.

β€œHello!” The boys replied in unison.
