CHAPTER ONE

NIGHTFALL,

Miriam got into an argument with Cody and it led into a blood battle, drowning Miriam in her own pool of blood. From the looks of it, Cody didn’t mean to kill her but Miriam kept on throwing stuffs at him and with just one blow, her neck was sliced on an already broken glass table and into the pool she went. “Miriam! Miriam!” Cody screamed out her name. He entered into the pool and tried to save her but she was lifeless………..The Academy went silent when they all found out that a student of theirs was found dead in a pool. The table that had her blood all over it was confiscated. Tracy was in tears on her bed and no one could console her. She just lost her cousin and words couldn’t express the hatred she felt at that moment. Cody was able to go into camouflage without anyone questioning him about his whereabouts. Only one of his roomies noticed that he came into the dorm all wet with his white t-shirt stained with blood. “Cody, what did you do?” Samuel asked his friend. Cody knew that he couldn’t keep the secret, so he dragged Samuel into a corner and narrated everything to him. “You what? I can’t believe you killed Miriam…You’re a monster”, Samuel yelled.

Cody tried to shush his friend but Samuel kept on accusing him. “Will you shut up? You always wanted to get rid of Miriam after she revealed a picture of you naked to everyone. You should be happy because I did you a solid, not that I meant for it to happen but still”, Cody told his friend. “Yes, I wanted to get rid of her but I was all mouth and no action. I don’t even have the heart to do such”….. “Same goes to me. She was attacking me and all I did was to hit her and it led to her death. If you’re truly a friend of mine, you’ll help me out”, Cody convinced his friend. Samuel knew he had to give Cody a helping hand because he could see that Cody had shivering hands. “Fine but first you need to get rid of your clothes and dry yourself out. If they find you wet, you’ll be the first suspect”, Samuel advised his friend.

Later that night, Cody couldn’t sleep. He kept on thinking about what had happened to Miriam and then it dawned on him that Miriam had snatched his watch while they were both arguing. He left his bunk bed and went to where Samuel was. He climbed up and woke his friend. “Dude, why aren’t you asleep?” Samuel asked. “Shh, so no one will hear you. I just remembered that my watch is with Miriam in her jeans pocket. If they find it, I’m doomed”, Cody whispered. Samuel didn’t need Cody to say much, he quietly came down from his bed and both sneaked out of the room. “Cody, there’s no way you’re going to receive that watch back. The Police do not refund evidence”, Samuel said. “I know but what if the watch fell out of her pocket? She had a great fall and I don’t think the watch can still be in her pockets. It must be somewhere around the swimming pool area, I just hope they haven’t found it yet”…… “How sure are you? Besides, that place is all taped, are you expecting us to break the law by going there?” Samuel questioned his friend. “Obviously, we have to go. I need you bro, we need to cover my entire track”, Cody said. “You know, you saying about covering the track also made me think, we have a security camera around that area. Don’t you think it must have captured everything that had happened?” Samuel thought smart. “Shit! I forgot about the security tape that always records. You know what? I’ll deal with breaking into the Principal’s office while you go to retrieve my watch.

We’ll meet back at the garden”, Cody suggested. The both of them split up as Tracy watched from a distance as both boys went to do their shenanigans. The Principal’s office was locked but it was no match for Cody. He was able to pick the lock with a pin he found lying on the floor and he got access into the office……Samuel was lucky to have found the watch hidden at a corner of the pool. He was just about to leave when he saw Tracy staring from a distant. “How long have you been standing there?” Samuel shouted. “…Long enough to know that you’re trying to cover your tracks. Tell me Samuel, where you the one that killed my cousin?” Tracy asked as she drew closer to him. “What makes you think I can harm a fly? I do know that I was never a fan of Miriam but still, I’d never try to kill her….Let’s just say that her death was a mistake and probably her fault”. “So are you trying to say that you killed her coincidentally?” Tracy asked. Samuel knew that there was no amount of explanation that would satisfy Tracy. He knew she was onto him and he needed to get rid of her immediately. Tracy sensed danger and tried to run but he grabbed hold of her leg and swung her to a corner. She got up and tried to get to press the emergency bell to alert the others but Samuel bent both of her hands to the back as she screamed for pain. He covered her mouth and she bit him. The bite stung and she was able to free herself. Samuel couldn’t give up just yet, so he ran as fast as he can to catch up with her before she manages to alert the whole School. Unfortunately, Tracy missed one of her steps and fell to the floor. She heard Samuel laugh from a distance and saw him bring out a pocket knife. He rose up her head and sliced her throat……..All these while, Cody watched from where he was and saw how his friend brutally murdered Tracy….He rushed to where Samuel was and pushed him hard on the chest. “Are you nuts? You just killed her for no reason”, Cody said angrily. “For no reason, boy, I just helped you. You should be saying thank you to me. I needed to get rid of her too or else you’re in big trouble”, Samuel said calmly. Cody was confused about how Samuel had a knife in his pocket. “Rule number one when dealing with murder, always be prepared to welcome anyone into the game……Now, help me to bury her body”.
