The Confession

“WAIT!” Elysian calls, desperation escaping through the cracks in their voice.

As Tanya strode

off, Elysian realised that this was their last chance.

If it was ever going to happen, It was going to happen now.

This was it.

“t-TWITCH!” Elysian called, as a final last ditch attempt.

Tanya would have never turned around had it not been for her confusion and basic human respect, even for an unworthy lowlife like Elysian. Atleast that’s what she likes to tells herself. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t curious in the slightest about what they had to say. Somehow, she couldn’t help feeling that what they had to say was worth listening to. Of course, she would never admit to that either.

“You tuck your hair behind your ears when you feel vulnerable, you don’t make eye contact when you’re being stubborn and I can always tell if something’s up with you because there’s a..a twitch that you do. Your eyes flutter downwards and your body jerks a little - it’s as if you’re actively rejecting whatever’s trying to hurt you,” Elysian rambles.

“…I know, because I do it too.”

Tanya froze in place, her back still turned against them. How could someone recognise all the little things about her? How could someone care? She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that someone could know her so well, maybe even more than she knew herself. The idea was so terrifying and yet it made her feel safe in a way that nothing else- no one else had done before.

“I l-love you. I know It’s taken so long for me to say it. I know I’ve acted like a dick. I know. But it’s only because I was scared. I was scared that you wouldn’t like me back. I was scared that you wouldn’t see me the same. I was scared that we wouldn’t be ..us anymore. But, Tanya, you have to understand that nothing scares me more then a world without you in my life.

I need you..”

Her heart fluttered so hard in her chest it was almost nauseating. She had been waiting to hear that come out of their mouth for months and now that she had finally got it, she didn’t know what to do with herself. Elysian’s ‘confession’ transported her back to her young school girl days; reminding her of the days where she used to whisper about crushes with her friends and fantasise about a love like no other. Except this wasn’t a fantasy. This was real. She fought back her smile as she built up the courage to turn around. She looked up and, before she could even adjust her feet, she was stopped in her tracks, yet again.

The other girl.

The twin sister.

Gianna.

The two stood either side of her like magnets against a force field, Tanya acting as some kind of earthed object, bridging the divide and preventing the upcoming explosion, controllable but inevitable. She wouldn’t be able to hold them off for long. The fuse will blow out. They weren’t just siblings. They were twins. A pair of people so similar and yet so different. But you know what they say.

Opposites attract.
