Beth stared at the woman, a bit annoyed but she understand. After what happened to her husband's boat when he tried to go to the island.

"Was that Anne I saw?" Beth's mother questioned walking out of the house with a basket full of wet clothing. Beth nodded her head and went back to pinning the wet clothes on the clothing line.

After a long day of doing chores, Beth took out her cigar and lighter, lighting it. "Beth stop smoking!" her mother yells and she sighed, putting it between her lips one last time, she breathe in and out. A Puff of smoke came out of her mouth. "Yeah mom, I will!" she yells and threw the cigar on the ground, stomping on it.

"If you have lung failure that's on you," Beth nodded her head, ready to cover her ears from another one of her mom's lectures. "It's my life ma," Her mom walks up to her and cups her cheeks with both of her cold hands, She frowns and stares into her daughter's eyes. "I know mijo but I want you to live longer without having to get sick from smoking. I want you to have what I had. Don't throw it away, okay?"

"Okay," Beth kissed her mom's cheeks and walked away to her room. Just as she closed her room door she heard her father's voice and lean her back against the door and listens as her father destroys his own family. "20 dollars, what am I supposed to do with 20 dollars!" he yells and Beth could hear things being thrown onto the floor and her mother pleading for him to stop.

"Shut up, Just shut up!" Tears fell down her cheeks as she hear her mom's scared voice.

'When will it stop?' she thought wiping her tears.
