New beginnings

For the 46th hour, sitting in this dreadfully hot car, with bags and boxes ready to fall on my head, and my dad right behind us in a U-Haul carrying

the rest of our lives that had been packed up and are now being moved all the way across the country. I’ve realized that nothing really matters. All the friends i’ve known since Preschool, won’t remember me after collage, and for my school, i’m gonna be doing the same thing as i did every other year before, sitting in ridiculously boring classes for 45 minutes with people i’d rather not socialize with.

The only difference at this

school, is that i don’t

know anyone. The

one thing i’m going to miss back in Oregon, is my best friend Ruth. I’ve known her since elementary school but we’ve only been friends since the summer of 7th grade. We spent every weekend together. She was the only person, who understood me and who i felt comfortable talking to her about anything. She’s a bit of a.. what’s the word..? Fireball maybe? She says what she’s thinking even if it hurts someone else’s feelings, i say it’s mean but she says that it’s the truth and that people deserve to know when they’re being stupid. I miss her and her undaunted self. Finally, we pull into the driveway of the new house, it’s a lot smaller than it looked in the picture, but i like it, makes it feel more homey. It’s an off white, kind of modern cottage look, not exactly what i imagine myself living in but we’re here. My parents aren’t divorced, but definitely not together, they were never married, and they never get along so this is going to be a long couple of days moving in. Before we start bringing the boxes in, my mom shows me and my little sister, Amelia around the house. It’s nice, but it doesn’t feel like home. “June why don’t you have first pick of bedroom, i know how hard this move has been on you and i want you to feel at home here.” I looked at my mom, shocked that she even took enough time to notice how i was feeling. It was nice, knowing that for once my mom payed attention to something other than Amelia. “We’ll be downstairs unloading boxes, come down when you’re ready.” “Ok mom” I say. I walk back upstairs to the medium size bedroom at the end of the hall, away from all the other rooms and walk in. It was perfect, it had a set of windows with a nook right below that i can imagine myself reading in and a huge built in bookshelf for all of my books with a nice sized closet. As i’m about to grab a box from the back of the car, i notice a boy, he’s tall, dark haired and he’s walking, I assume from school since he has a backpack on. I continued to move my stuff up the stairs into my room which took a few hours, we managed to get everyone’s beds inside and set up so we have a place to sleep.
