Chapter 1
It was a rainy day. The car window had all the droplets and she wished they would glide down faster and maybe she could watch the college at the next turn.
“So excited for the college?” , asked my dad . He is so happy for me that I had got into this amazing university by my own talent with full scholarship. He had his struggles as an immigrant from India but He too worked hard to study here. I am excited and he knew that but dad always doubted my silence I guess.
“you know, I am ”
“I know , I know . Just checking in”
He smiled at me through the rear view mirror and I wiggled my eyebrows and stuck my tongue out.
He giggled and he did the same.
That’s our small ritual.
“So you came here on a scholarship! That’s cool! ” said Abbey who I just met a minute ago.
Abbey is the kind of girl who wants to know ever About everyone and with her curly brown hair and dark blue eyes, who wouldn’t say their life story to her? I would , I know that.
“Yeah. I worked hard in my high school but now I just hope to enjoy the college year ahead”
“Oh with me on your side, you don’t have to worry about that! And Summer, it’s a cute name”
“Yeah that’s my mom’s idea tho. My dad wanted me to name kavitha but nope, he didn’t get a say in that”
I just laughed thinking about my dad’s reaction to the name summer.
“Well, I love Summer. Both the season and your name”
We just smiled at each other. I liked her. Maybe Summer is the kind of girl who knows everything because people share things with her cause they like her not for her hair or eyes but for the smile .
