She was on the ground, nose bleeding, both black eyes and, looking like she could pass out at any moment. And she could. The next blow would knock her right out.
It took him a few seconds to catch his breath, take a deep breath, and finally come back to his right mind. When he saw her on the floor, trying to steady her breathing and stop crying, his eyes softened. She still tried to have a bit of pride in herself as she shakily got up. What have I done... he thought to himself, although this has happened many times before. And each time it happened, he promised never to lay a finger that she didn’t want on her. He had broken his promise once more...
Once she had finally gotten up; with great help from the wall she was near; she sniffed and wiped her face, ridding it of a bit of the blood, sweat, and tears. She looked terrible. No one could deny that. Her pretty face was covered in the blood see just smeared crossed her face and her hair was damp from sweat and her sleeves were soaked from attempting to hide her tears, trying to save the smallest bit of pride she had left.
“I-” he muttered to himself, interpreting what he wanted to say to her to make this better.
“Draco...” she started but didn’t finish because he had hugged her, attempting to be careful of the wounds he had inflicted on her.
Draco was crying now, every bit of anger that was within him replaced with sadness, regret, and guilt, “I’m so sorry ’Mione...” he murmured, his voice cracking.
Hermione winced as he squeezed her, but hugged him back nonetheless. She didn’t say anything, because she didn’t want to, or couldn’t find the strength to do so; Draco couldn’t decide. All he wanted was for her to be okay.
He picked her up, holding her bridal style, and walked over to their room. The whole time, Hermione was clinging to him, almost as if she was scared that he was going to drop her. Draco hated that... He didn’t want her to be scared of him. But what reason did he give her to not fear him? He couldn’t complain at the moment. He just wanted to take care of her right now.
He set her gently on the bed, rushing to get some medical supplies. There were cuts all over her body from scratches, either from Hermione digging her fingernails into her arms in fear of what would happen, or Draco grabbing her with almost full force and throwing her against the kitchen counter, causing the glasses in the cupboard to fall and cut her as they broke. There were bruises from her being slapped and knocked over, hitting a wall. And she was leading from the head, although Draco couldn’t recall what that was from. Either way, he was disgusted with himself.
He delicately wrapped up her cuts and tucked her into the bed, not sure how to deal with bruises, “I love you, Hermione...” he whispered, kissing her head, hoping to hear it back, but knowing he wouldn’t. For one, he had just beat the living crap out of her, and two, she had already fallen asleep under the covers.
He then made a move to leave the room, fully prepared to sleep on the couch that night.
“I love you too, Draco...” a small voice said, the voice almost inaudible to him.
Draco smiled to himself and made it to the couch, sitting down.
“Never again...” he whispered to himself, ”Never..."
Hermione was laid down in the bed, cuddling up to a pillow, currently preferring anything other than to be next to Draco at the moment. She held back more tears as she recalled the previous events.
“Draco, it’s only Ron! Do you expect me to go for him after what he did to me?!”
“I don’t trust him! You shouldn’t even be talking to him!”
“He’s my friend! Ron cheating on me changes nothing about the fact that I’ve been friends with him for 10 years!”
“He’s still in love with you!!”
“So?! I’m not going to fall back in love with him!”
“You can’t prove that!!”
“Yeah? Well, how do I know that you won’t go off and cheat on me with Pansy? Huh!? As I recall, you two had quite the relationship during school, and you’re still friends with her!”
“... You bitch”
Draco seethed when Hermione said that last thing. How dare she say that about him?! Who does she think she is, talking to him like that?!
And before he could think, his hand came up and he backhanded her across the face, making Hermione stumble backward, almost unable to keep her balance. She felt something trickling from her nose and put a hand up to touch it, seeing blood on her fingers, “Fuck you...” she fumed, looking up at him with an angry expression, only fueling Draco’s anger more.
Suddenly Hermione’s hair was grasped and her head was yanked up to look at Draco, “Say that again... I fucking dare you...” he whispered lowly, almost a growl.
“Fuck. You.” Hermione said without thinking, getting all up in Draco’s face, holding back a smirk, because she knew she was right on the matter and that Draco was just being jealous. She had no idea that it would go as far as it did.
Draco glared at her, breathing hard before basically throwing her at the wall, prompting Hermione to fall to the floor. She hurriedly got up, trying to keep some dignity, “Draco...” she said, immediately regretting what she had said, knowing what was to come.
Draco’s expression didn’t change as he slapped her again, effectively shutting her up. He again pushed her into the kitchen counter, knocking some glasses out of the cupboard and breaking, some glass cutting her in the process.
At this point, Hermione didn’t try to get up, and Draco pulled her up by her hair, muttering on about what an idiot she was, or about how he thought she was hiding something from him.
“I bet you’re not so confident now, are you?” he asked with a smirk, to which, Hermione didn’t answer, “What? You’re not gonna come back with anything? I mean, we are talking about how we were in school. Aren’t you gonna go right back to that annoying know-it-all?”
He threw her down to the wall behind her and she didn’t try to get up once again, “Fucking pathetic...”
For a split second, Draco felt prideful, almost as though he was proud to have been able to beat up a girl half his size. But after a few seconds of catching his breath, he realized what he had done, and looked at what he’d done.
Hermione finally burst into a not-so-silent fit of sobs that could faintly be heard by Draco in the living room. But he knew he couldn’t go and comfort her. He had to just sit there and listen to the girl he loved cry herself to sleep.
