Prologue
Carol’s point of view
Sarah Williams said, “I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
The day is chaotic and the night is quiet.
The day has the sun and the night has the moon.
The sun is lonely and the moon, on the other hand, has a lot of company.
Words are words and when they come out of my mouth without my will, they always hold the truth. The night sky above my head was, to say the least, beautiful.
Night is my favorite part of the day. Honestly, I live more in the dark than in the light. It’s funny, I know, and anyone could assume that I’m some kind of vampire, but I promise with my hand to my heart that I’m not.
I felt like I was in a gallery of paintings and what I had now in front of my eyes was the biggest of all. The moon was up there with its clear white light illuminating the sleeping Seoul under her feet, and she was not alone, myriads of stars were painting the blue canvas with her.
Sitting on the roof of a house with a mask on the face and wearing a completely black costume, compared to the moon, I felt totally alone.
“Spider Wolf, the hero who fights in the shadows.”
When was the last time I read a similar headline on the front page of the newspaper? Two years ago... Three years ago, perhaps... I haven’t the faintest idea. The days pass so quickly that I’ve lost track of time.
A small sigh escaped from my lips. I crossed my arms behind my head and laid my back on the uncomfortable roof tiles. I had no intention of sleeping, rather I would have chosen to watch that magical starry sky until morning.
And as if it wasn’t, out of the corner of my eye I saw a strong glint appear at the side of the moon. It happened in the interval of two seconds and it was so fast that only after a while I realized I had just spotted a shooting star.
They say you should make a wish when you see one. And at that moment the only thing I wanted to change in my life was my past.
