Chapter 1
Callie and her sister Laney came downstairs with their bags.
“Dad?” Callie asked.
“Dad?” Laney asked.
“Hey baby girl, hey sweetheart,” Samuel said.
“Do we have to go to Mom’s?” Laney asked.
“It’s just for the summer, girls, I have this big project in New York and Maria has fashion shows and photoshoots for her designs so she will be there with me and I don’t like the idea of you two stuck here alone,” Samuel said.
“Paul and Austin will be here right?” Callie asked.
“No they will be in London all summer with their job,” Samuel said.
“Dad, Mom just got remarried and we haven’t even met our new stepdad and stepbrother,” Laney said.
“Now it will be the time to get to know them,” Samuel said.
“We will miss you guys,” Callie said.
“Oh sweetheart I’ll miss you as well,” Samuel said.
“As will I,” Maria said. They all hugged. Even thought Maria was only ten years older than Callie and twenty years younger than Samuel, they still accepted her as their stepmother as she makes their father very happy and that’s all they want for him.
“Let’s get going girls, your flight is due to take off,” Samuel said. They got their bags and went to the airport and they hugged their father.
“Love you Daddy,” Callie said.
“Love you Daddy,” Laney said.
“Love you both so much girls,” Samuel said. They got on the plane and headed to Texas where their mother lived now with her new husband and his son and their stepuncle as well.
“You ready for this?” Callie asked.
“I hope so, I don’t think Mom will care if we are there or not, she didn’t bother inviting us to her wedding or anything,” Laney said.
“Why would she agree for us to come for the summer?” Callie asked.
“We will probably not see her much,” Laney said.
“Dad was the only parent we had growing up, she worked all the time, she never made time for us, no wonder their marriage didn’t last, who knows how long this one will last,” Callie said.
“Unless she’s changed,” Laney said.
“I doubt it, I heard her and Dad on the phone when he called her to see about us coming to stay for the summer, she didn’t seem really thrilled about it, I bet there will be no one to pick us up from the airport and we will have to find our way to the house,” Callie said.
“Dad said that he arranged for someone to pick us up,” Laney said.
“I’m 21 years old, you are 19, we are capable of being on our own, why does Dad not trust us?” Callie asked.
“He’s being Dad, overprotective,” Laney said. The plane landed and they walked off the plane and looked around and went to baggage claim and got their bags and walked through the airport.
“Callie and Laney?” someone asked. They saw a older guy standing there.
“Who’s asking?” Callie asked.
“I’m Jake Tucker, your uncle, I’m Lance’s younger brother,” he said.
“Our new stepuncle,” Laney said.
“Yes, your father arranged for me to pick you up, your mom and Lance are waiting at the house,” Jake said.
“Wow Mom’s there waiting for us, that’s new,” Callie said.
“Your dad told me about that, don’t worry, you guys won’t be left alone, either me or Lance or Brad will be there,” Jake said.
“Okay,” Laney said. They got their bags loaded in his truck and headed to the house. They drove down the long driveway and pulled up to a house.
“Lance is a rancher?” Laney asked.
“Yes, me and him work on the ranch along with Brad,” Jake said.
“Does our mother do anything with the ranch?” Callie asked.
“No, she has her law practice in town,” Jake said. They got out and got their bags and went inside.
Callie! Laney!” their mother Maggie said. Their mother came in and hugged them.
“Hey Mom,” Callie said.
“Hey Mom,” Laney said.
“I am so sorry I haven’t been in contact much but work has been hectic with setting up my practice here and clients coming in left and right, it’s been a mess, I have the next three weeks clear to catch up with you both and make up for lost time, I see you met Jake, your stepuncle, this is Lance your stepdad and Brad here is your stepbrother,” Maggie said.
“Hello ladies,” Lance said.
“Hello,” Brad said. Callie noticed Lance staring at her while Brad and Laney was staring at each other.
“Nice to meet you both, we would have met you at your wedding but we didn’t know until our dad got the notice that he could stop paying alimony due to remarriage,” Laney said.
“I’m sorry girls,” Maggie said.
“Well we hope to get to know you both this summer,” Lance said.
“I hope to get to know Callie really well,” Lance thought to himself.
“I’m just glad I’m not an only child anymore,” Brad said.
“I can’t wait to get to know Laney, she’s so beautiful, who cares if she’s my stepsister, I want her as my girlfriend and maybe my wife someday,” Brad thought to himself.
“Let’s get you both settled into your rooms,” Maggie said.
“Boys let’s get their bags for them,” Jake said.
“I can’t wait to get to know Callie, Lance and I always shared women, except for Maggie, I can tell he wants Callie and so do I, we will talk later about it, I know Brad wants Laney by how he looked at her,” Jake thought to himself.
Lance and Jake grabbed Callie’s bags as Brad grabbed Laney’s bags and they carried them upstairs.
