Chapter 1
Life After Life
Jacob Jones was twelve years old when he died for the first time and the memory of the fateful event has been haunting him ever since. There was no escaping from it and no hiding from it. The memory would always find him, no matter how hard he tried to push it away, ignore it, suppress it. It followed him every waking moment of every day, and the only place where he could find peace was when he was lost in a good book, apart from reality with all its trials and tribulations. His grandfather had instilled in him a love of reading and Jacob spent any chance he could get devouring anything he could get his hands on. If only life could allow him to do nothing but read, he would be happy and finally be able to banish the memories of his deaths. His first death was but one of three more that would follow before he even reached his twenties; each more devastating than the last. It was because of these deaths that he was diagnosed with severe depression and placed on a pharmacy-worth’s amount of medication. But no amount of therapy or pills could repair a broken soul. Jacob spent his days in a daze, aimlessly searching for a meaning to life that he suspected would never come. That was until he discovered the magic of dreams and met the man that would change his life forever, a therapist named Michael Brown.
