The sweet smell of cookies woke me up slowly “Mom..?” I opened my eyes to the sunlight invading my peace. My room was small, with bookshelves on both sides of my bed, and a small night stand with a window behind it, letting in the sunlight that desterbed me. My bed was only big enough for one person, the walls were painted a light blue I had picked out when I was young. I slid to the side of the bed and put my feet on the cool wood floor. ‘Meow’ I heard my cat in the hallway already awake and looking for me.
I stood up and walked sluggishly to the door and opened it slightly to let my cat in. her head appeared after I sat down on my bed. She walked in after watching me sit down. “Hey Sophey.” I said quietly trying to not scare her; she was quite skittish. I heard humming, whispers, and laughing in the kitchen. After petting my cat’s head, I started to get dressed, I got a glimpse of something moving in the mirror on the back of my bedroom door. A guy stared back at me with greyish green eyes, tall, fit, black messy hair with only pajama pants on. I was always surprised when I saw myself in the mirror. I always imagined myself differently. I look quite mean on the outside, my posture, my face, the way my body’s always tense in certain places.
After I was dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans I walked barefoot to the kitchen to see my mom and dad making breakfast together. Most of the kitchen was white and covered in pancake mix, I guess that explains the laughing. “Goodmorning..” I said in an amused voice, studying the mess I would likely have to clean. I’m pretty sure I startled them a bit because my mom jumped a little. “Goodmorning, want some pancakes?” my father asked, turning around covered in pancake mix. “Looks like you wasted all of it.” I smirked and laughed at his childishness. “Oh leave you father alone, your plate is on the table, the maple syrup is still in the cabinet and there’s fresh fruit in the fridge. My little sister walked out of my room. “Wait how long were you in my room?” I said picking her up, she was only 5. Her white as snow hair was down to her ankles and she had albinism. Her red eyes have always been beautiful to me, her peers at school were scared of her. She was wearing one of my t-shirts and a pair of her little gym shorts.
She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and I knew she had slept in my room. “I slept in there with you.” She was honest for her age. I walked over to the table and put her down in the chair next to where I was planning to sit. I sat with a plate in front of me and started eating a bit.
After I ate I put on some shoes and socks, grabbed my school bag and walked to school. I was gonna be late if I didn’t leave when I did. My thoughts were cut short by a scream. I rushed into the alley I heard it from, I saw a woman staring up in terror. “Ma’am? Is everything alright?” the woman turned towards me, her eyes told me what was about to happen. I heard a low growl getting louder and louder. She stood frozen in fear. After that I felt its claws tear my skin from my shoulder to my torso. I felt my own blood run down my legs and back. There was no pain. I turned around to see a beast with an elk skull head. Its body was bloody and its gaze froze on the woman. Its eyes slowly moved to me. Pain struck my whole body and I realized the danger I was in. black dots filled my vision and I felt the blacktop slap me in the face.
I felt a cool liquid around me. I opened my eyes, I was under water. I heard muffled voices and felt people watching me. I heard one big shout and I was pulled out of the water. “See he’s awake as i said! You know you can’t leave humans in water, it fills their lungs!” the one holding me up off the ground with one hand said in a nagging tone. I struggled swinging my legs and grabbing his hand trying to get him to put me down.
