There are many different factors that contribute to our overall wellbeing and outlook on life. These can include economic matters, political views and satisfaction, job satisfaction, or social life and popularity. All of these things are integral to our wellbeing, but do they directly influence it? No, the answer is that this is not possible. The truth is, all these factors are thought of by human in a certain way. If our thoughts regarding one of these important factors for example are positive, our wellbeing is more likely to be strong. However, if we perceive these factors in a negative way, our wellbeing will be severely lowered. Let’s use one’s social life as an example. Say Person 1 has a small group of around 5 friends, and this is all that person 1 feels they need, they will have positive thoughts about their social life, and these thoughts will bring upon a high level of wellbeing. Person 2 on the other hand has a bigger group of around 10 friends, but also wants to fit into this other large friend group, and is unsatisfied that they don’t quite fit in there. Even though technically Person 2 has a better social life than Person 1, Person 1 is still far more likely to have their wellbeing satisfied by their social life as their thoughts about this are positive, contrasting the negative thoughts and dissatisfaction from Person 2.
