The lost boulevard of dream city

people come from all over the city to this boulevard to show how wealthy, popular, successful they are. Some come by just to see how it feels like to live the dream that was built by the silver screen. The news to your parents that one guy you thought was cool all came down to this place. Welcome to the boulevard of the dream city.

One of the main attractions of this boulevard is the sheer size of it, grabbing the beach from one side and the city from another the beautiful palm trees that prove the tropical aesthetics of the beach gyms to show that body that you worked so hard to attain.

the eye-pleasing candy and ice cream stores for you to purchase so you can post it on a social media platform for a whole 24 hours! We also have this beautiful beach that no one swims in; it's only here for the jet skies and yachts... anyway if you look on your right you'll see the city side well designed asymmetrical intersections neon lights that would burn your eyes out of your skull. every genre of music blasting simultaneously from different clubs, pubs, and restaurants we also have coffee shops but just a poor people thing, and honestly who the fuck wanna be known to be poor right?

The building is just box-shaped out of touch just like the people who built them. Everything you see here is pretty much soulless so there's no point in me saying that over and over okay. Also, I've been talking for 2 minutes straight so I need you to buy me something to drink don't forget to put that smile on your face tho! ... great you're back.

I got a phone call from a friend of mine we're going to meet him in a bit, for now, let me just finish explaining a few things before he comes. they're like these silly unsaid rules that we have here. rule number one: no complaining, no sad faces, no crying, well at least in public you can do it in an empty bathroom because that kind of ruins the mood for everyone, and no one likes that darling. rule number two: it's style over substance here so you better dress what you wanna express to everyone here. don't be one of the low-tier people here that have a negative follow/follower ratio you're the king or queen or whatever the fuck you are of your own story so you better show that to everyone are you following? good. rule number three: no one really gives a shit about you and everything is temporary so don't make a fool of yourself by showing your true intentions, emotions or try to have something " real" reality is boring it takes time and effort you can fail at "real" but what we have here everything is perfect everything is on time everything is flawless so let's try to keep it that way. and finally, try not to be an "orange" don't be yourself way too much no one likes that it's weird we all relate to each other here so be relatable okay? You can be a petrol head and head out to the streets with the racers and spend most of your time doing burnouts, drifting, and racing. you can be lolita and come with us to the clubbing life looking like a million bucks take pictures and break others hearts is our go-to. you have the naturals, the people who are born into this life. Everything is always prepaid by their parent's credit card or their sugar mommy/daddy.

it's pretty hard to find a way into that clique but if you do hats off to you haha.. and finally, ugh. the indies those are the ones always hanging in the coffeeshops day drunk street roaming skating band shirts wearing sub girls who act like cats and switch beta boyfriends that are doing their best to keep up with their bullshit I'm going to check on Ethan I think he called me there's no reception here be right back and one more thing. if you wanna survive you better be either drunk or high .. get me a refill be right back "

said Scarlett the most gorgeous girl you'll ever see 1.75m of pure beauty pale white like a vampire dripping red lips blue eyes blond hair thick enough to make a grown man cry always dressing like a Victorian queen and somehow she always looks good wearing outfits like that.. she's a good friend of mine but we kind of lost contact after high school luckily there was this Tunisian girl that I met while studying in Russia that was a mutual friend she gave me her new phone number and info after graduating I booked a flight back to my home country and met sunny on my second day back there we talked a bit catching up on each other's lives and the good old high school days or that's how we remember them. I told her that I just came back from Russia and had no fixed plans on what I wanted to do other than finding a job as soon as possible since I'm living off my savings she suggested that I come with her to the dream city since it's really easy to find a job the due to the high demands for labor so I accepted she called her boyfriend MARIO and they helped me get my suitcases ready got me a tiny flat and paid the first month for me so that was more than I could ask for.

He managed to get a few interviews on Monday but since he came here on Saturday he decided to go out in the sunshine and explore the city. First, he finished unpacking what he had left of my misc. boxes headed out to the supermarket. He said he was a bit surprised by the huge amount of brands that are provided for some basic needs like cereal, soda, and pretty much everything. While preparing a meal he heard a knock on the door so he went to check out who it was, maybe the neighbors were welcoming him. When he opened the door he saw a tall muscular man with an unfitting voice

and a heavy Italian accent

Salvatore "you coopa?"

cooper noded

"It's your lucky day. I'm going to be your guide. Ethan sent me here to take you on a tour so get ready I'll be waiting outside" coope quickly wore his jeans leather jacket laced up his boots and headed out "is that a classic gt 500 Shelby?"

sal: "yeah! hah that's my daily Ethan gave it to me right after I started working with him"

cooper: "You mean for him right?"

cooper: "you must be good at your job to get this for a starter haha"

sal: "you're not wrong I think we're gonna have fun today put your seatbelt on first this we're going to do is get you a pair of glasses then we gonna do some shopping are you a suit guy is a business casual kinda guy?"

cooper: "which is comfy for my gun"

sal:" hahaha that's what I like to hear coopa"

they rolled off into the streets near the boulevard to one of the shops got cooper a pair of vintage ray-bans Sal paid for it with a card that Ethan provided him with then they started wandering around the streets showing Ethan some good spots to shop for his needs after that they pulled over to this huge garage that has a bunch of high-end cars from the Lambo to Ferrari to the Maserati you name it. sal pulled the car over they head it to the garage

"what did you break this time" one of the garage workers asked

sal:" surprisingly nothing. I'm here for our guy coopa he needs something to move with and Ethan said he could get something from here"

garage guy: "nice to meet you Mr.cooper come with me"

they went to the backside of the garage and there.

the garage worker: "we have some of the best durable high-quality ones in here Ethan must really like you to be getting one of these"

sal: "enough with the talk let the guy pick a car. coopa I found something you might like"

cooper: "really you think this is funny"

sal:" a coopa driving a coopa ha ha ha c'mon don't underestimate it"

cooper took the car for a quick test drive and found himself comfortable driving it "you were right I'm taking it"

sal:" see coopa not only I'm funny but I'm also smart hahaha let's go coopa you'll find it in front of your flat later"

they hopped back into sal's car and went for something to eat

"so coopa tell me what got you here in dream city"

sal asked with a mouth full of food

cooper: " I had to escape my old life it was filled with unfortunate events that made me hate where I was living and I needed a new start so one day I just woke up packed everything and drove off but never found myself comfortable anywhere until I got here.. what about you man"

sal: "eeeh you could say I moved here for pretty much the same reason you see I'm from an Italian family-"

cooper: "I noticed"

sal:" hey you better not do sarcasm it makes me angry.. as I was saying I grew up in Brooklyn in a big, poor Italian family I was one of the bad kids who started as a bully then became a burglar but it wasn't enough for me

because I needed the money to help the family so I did some jobs here and there and it got me a promotion and got into a mob that runs a car business. As you already know I'm a really good driver so I worked with another guy he breaks in and I drive us off. I gotta admit it I got addicted to the adrenalin rush the danger of will I get caught this time kept working with them for two years until I was tasked to rob this antique car it was an Aston Martin DB5 that me and my partner both knew we gonna get caught but we tried anyway we managed to break in and steal it but there were way too many cameras around the area that we didn't get notice of and that what ended up being our downfall two big dudes came to my house and left a phone number for me. I called and it was Ethan that's how I met him he said I'm pretty good at doing my job and he gave me an opportunity to work with him if I manage to steal the car back he said he money won't be a problem anymore so I did what I had to do stole the cars before it gets disassembled ran away to our meeting location he was driving that car that I have right now he said it's not easy to walk my way out of here so we exchange cars and the rest is history"

cooper:''Wow, that's one hell of a story. ever considered writing a book about your life"

sal: "I did but I decided to spice it up a bit more before doing it hahaha"

they finished their food and headed out back to the streets

sal" it's almost sunset you know where we're heading right?"

cooper nodded as sal took a right turn that go them into the boulevard

They started cruising as the places started to fill up sal turned the music volume down

'' hey coopa you seem a bit lost on how this city works so imma give you some unspoken rules to survive here. rule number one don't get attached to anyone anything or even yourself everything is temporary here so just go with the flow. rule number two if you don't think about being the best you're not doing it right. and finally if you're gonna do something you better look cool while doing it"

suddenly an Audi r8 stops next to them on a red light and started revving his engine sal looked at the guy driving it looked back at cooper

" this is what I'm talking about'' as the light turns green both cars just lunch at an enormous speed and drag raced while everyone who's around at the coffee shops bars and restaurants started cheering for sal who wins the race by a well-earned victory then stopped the car in the middle of the boulevard and started revving his engine it was so loud so deafening that it made the other guy just take a quick turn out of the boulevard.

"alright enough playing around we got places to be''

cooper:" where exactly"

sal:" Ethan wanna meet you so we gonna go to his mansion"

cooper:" alright then"

at the end of the boulevard, there's this private street that you need a pass to get access to it but since sal is one of the people who work there he didn't need one it was filled with luxurious houses mansions cars even the trees there are rare to see they have their security guards and whatever you can think of it's there finally at the top of the hill a mansion that is so one of a kind that one needs to take all kind of drugs just to imagine the entrance

cooper:" such a friendly neighborhood I might consider moving here"

sal laughing:" yeah are you gonna pay with your soul or with you but hole"

They got out of the car and a valet took care of the car. The doors were opened by the maids and in the living room there was Ethan at the head of the table

"gentlemen I am very excited for our evening. sal how are you, get yourself a drink. Cooper my friend, I heard so much about you from Scarlett. I'm so happy to finally get to see you"

they shook hands and sat down talking to get to know each other and have some small talk as the rest arrived cooper introduced himself to Ethan told him on what he is planning for his stay in dream city and how he couldn't land a job yet Ethan suggested that he could work for him if his services were needed. Cooper explains that he's an intrapreneur and Ethan was already hooked a guy hungry for power like him will do anything to grab more of what his grip could get so he offered cooper to work for his agency and explained that he owns a motorsport company that organizes racings and want to expand his business to other domains and cooper would be a great addition to the team so he accepted and that was that while they were talking Scarlett came in "I am not let this psycho drive me anywhere anymore"

lou2:" oh come on it's just a prank you're supposed to laugh"

Ethan:" what did you do to her"

lou2:" so basically we were driving at 210km and I pulled the steering wheel off and acted like I lost control of the car and she started screaming and crying but then I just put it right back on and she was even angrier and started hitting me with her purse"

lou2 and Ethan were laughing at what you did. Cooper was laughing for the sake of not losing his job but Sal just shook his head and down his drink and poured another one.

Ethan:" shall we?"

they headed to the back where there's this giant field that has the swimming pool a dinner table with silverware is placed near an amazing view of the dream city the sat and the food came in hot with some ice-cold wine they asked lou2 started to ask about Ethan to get to know more about cooper they somewhat had the same conversation he had with Ethan and sal. After Ethan informed everyone that Cooper will start working with them,

Sal added:" Welcome to the family business. just keep in mind coopa if you're in the family you're in there's no bailing"

lou2 interrupted him " look who's talking" and the situation got a bit intense so Scarlett asked to cooper what car

cooper:" I got a mini"

sal started laughing

Scarlett:" you told him to get it so you can make funny jokes"

sal:" oh c'mon it's COPPA RIDING A COOPA"

lou2 chuckled a bit then added to the conversation:" the important thing is that you're happy with your decision coop... I don't think we had a proper introduction to each other I'm Louis the second aka Lou junior aka lou2 the son of the famous con artist Louis smith the french guy who sold the Eiffel tower twice made enough money to move to the US and started his own business I'm pretty sure you heard about his story-"

Ethan:" who's met his end in jail I'm pretty sure you heard about that cooper"

Lou gets upset about how Ethan talked about his father. they continued to dine and everyone headed out to their homes but cooper had to wait in the car until sal dropped Scarlett at her room she drank more than she can handle

he hopped back to the car to drive cooper back home before he goes on his way while driving on the way cooper joked about how sal signed up for a babysitter position and for once sal didn't laugh instead he said he'd rather drop Scarlett to her bed then end up sleeping outside implicating that Ethan doesn't care about her which got cooper to question why is she even with him in the first place but sal replied with maybe he's just rambling and he got nothing to do with their business sal drops cooper back home and he drives off...

a few days pass by as nothing special happens cooper started working with Ethan on a new project named stellar 1 try to develop a new fuel for the racing cars to go faster and cheaper to produce and as usual when the work stops the fun starts by the end of the week sal calls cooper to let him know that there's a racing event this Sunday and he should pass by if he's interested since him and Ethan will be there cooper accepts and confirm that would be there on race day…

It's Sunday you can hear the cars revving since 8 am people drifting blasting music streets are getting closed for the event cooper grabbed a snack dressed and jumped in his mini and drove to the location that he was supposed to meet sal at but he could find him called him twice but the services are pretty low suddenly he started hearing from a distance "HEEY COOPA COOPA RIGHT HERE LET HIM PASS HE'S WITH ME turns out he wasn't going to watch with the fans but he was going to the team's garage

cooper:" I didn't know you had a racing team"

sal:" I wish it was mine, it's Ethan's but I ruin everything in here to make sure it goes as smooth as possible for a clean win.. our team has won the last 10 championships and we're trying to get that number up by the end of the season. Martina RC is the only team to do it back to back in all of motorsport history"

cooper:''Can't wait to see them go, man.. hey where's Scarlett?"

sal:" she gotta do a shooting for a magazine no worry about her go grab yourself a drink and enjoy this carbon fueled first aight coopa I gotta go get on the radio to check if it's working or no be right back"

cooper went to the bar met the drivers had a few chats with them and they explained how honored they feel to race for sal since he was the best racer in the city and his record is still unbeaten since the day he retired then he went to check the cars and after that, he grabbed himself a seat next to sal since the place was packed by the crew of engineers that were checking the car for the final time before the race. you can see this in every garage just pure loud organized chaos until the alarm went off and everyone went quiet as the crew left the drivers by themselves and they simultaneously drove to the pit

cooper:''Who are those guys in the black cars?"

sal:" these my friend coopa are the dream team RC they are the only team to race from race 1 till now. unfortunately for them, they never managed to win any races"

cooper:" such a shame"

sal:" shame indeed if it was my team we would be showering with Champagne every race.. ugh aaight coppa you get yourself a nice seat behind me I need to focus talking to the drivers"

Everyone was silent waiting for the light to turn green. three, two, one, and there you can hear the engines roaring and cars leaving scars of tires on the asphalt as the drove of and the race has officially started Martina in the first place the dream team just right behind fast and aggressive grave for speed glory and the taste of champaign the started to fight for the first place while the rest of the cars are trying to catch up. Cooper watching by was enjoying every single bit of it. reminding him of the feeling he got the first he rode with sal and instantly got hooked to the rush he got that day.

the commentator "the finish line is ahead. The dream team is going wheel to wheel with Martina RC this one is going to be a close call! Wait, what was that? oh no this unfortunate one of the tires of the dream team got punctured and that caused them the first place for today ... hey at least they still get the podium better luck next time"

everyone inside the garage rushed outside to cheer the drivers

sal:" I feel so sorry for the dream team .."

cooper:" hey I feel you but we won you should go celebrate with them"

sal:" you right coopa bring me some tequila and let's get the party started

Cooper and Sal headed out to see everyone covered in champagne singing-dancing jumping. Ethan comes by “ La plaza is open for everyone, drink free, have fun” and leaves without even talking to them.

Sal:” if you didn’t like dream city until now you will like it now follow me”

Sal jumped in his car so did cooper and they started driving fast but cooper didn’t catch up since sal is a more skilled driver than him they stopped by this corner bar that Ethan owns.

Sal:” this my friend is la plaza stay right here I’ll go grab some drinks for us”

Cooper parked his car and started to notice the busy streets get busier screams music blasting everyone is at the top of their game today. A bunch of highly modified cars started to gather around the bar, some of them blocked the boulevard so they could have the streets for themselves. There it was the best car show you could ever see in from the pretty to the scary to the fastest you name it they have it some drivers did some donuts others started to drift and they even held some short drag races finally but everything gets interrupted when a bunch of black big cars passes by smashing anything it comes in its way ruining the fun for everyone and paving a way for the only Aston martin DB5 with Ethan and Scarlett inside stopping in the middle of the boulevard Ethan gets out

Ethan:''How many times do I need to repeat this? We are better than this we are organized, we are not hooligans. We organize these events. We don't do them without any warnings and we do not! Block roads

Sal downs his drink and goes inside the bar hoping that he doesn’t associate with Ethan

Cooper follows him inside

Sal:” he keeps doing this man I told him way too many times people would hate us if he keeps doing this coopa they would hate us what the fuck is he supposed to do with all the fast cars if no one wanted to race anymore. These people are the reason why racing exists these people have the passion and love for cars and racing to live on cereal for months to buy mods for their cars these people care about each other they’re family no one gives a shit about money none of them all they care about is this and he’s trying to box them into his industry I’m getting sick of this coopa I don’t know if I can deal with his bullshit anymore... I’m sorry if I’m being a negative person right now-”

Cooper:” no no it’s alright man. I understand the anger inside of you I was going to ask you later if you wanna teach me because I cannot see anyone who has the same amount of passion for this more than you”

Sal:” sure man I can benefit off of that by telling Ethan that you need my help with your job”

Cooper:” you got yourself a deal”

Sal:''Tomorrow at rush hour meet me at cloud street. Maybe get some gloves and a headgear coopa”

Both of them enjoyed the rest of the night then proceeded to go back home.

It’s almost noon cooper just checked out of his office and headed to the garage that Ethan owns

Cooper:''Good morning.”

Garage worker:” morning. Your package is ready sal gave us a call this morning”

Cooper:''Well thank you, how much will these cost?”

Garage worker:” it’s on the house.”

Cooper:” thanks man you have a great day”

Garage worker:” don’t worry about it”

Cooper went back to his car and tried his gear trying to get comfortable in it then headed to meet sal

The streets are starting to get busy and slow honking horns as everyone is trying to get back home as soon as possible to get ready for the nighttime. Cooper can barely see sal through the traffic. He tries to get as close as he gets to him. Sal rolls down the window:” you ready coopa?”

Cooper:” if I wasn’t I wouldn’t be here.”

Sal:''That's what I like to hear... I got something that you should keep in mind coopa. This ain’t no game you die you crash you gotta drive a shitbox for a while. You’re not racing with me, you're racing with yourself. The finish line is the end of the boulevard. That thrust pedal won’t break the floor it. Did you get all of that coopa?”

Cooper nodded.

Sal:” light green race starts. ”

He rolls his window back up but you can still hear the music blasting in his car calmly puts one hand on the wheel, the other on the shifter waiting for the light to turn green while in the mini cooper’s hand are getting shaky anxiety is starting to kick in his lung feels like they’re not getting any air in no matter how deep his breaths are a strong grip on the wheel but not a confident one. Barely holding himself while the redlight condo is getting closer to zero tickings.. five, four, three, two, one, the red light goes out in that split second between the lights changing cooper’s heart turned into a drum, questions of doubts started to wonder inside his mind but it wasn’t enough time to make him question himself so he just rolled with it it’s green and off we go. Sal is already ahead zigzagging his way between cars as he aggressively shifts gears without wasting any thrust. While Cooper is barely able to catch up to him streets are getting tighter and tighter as he’s going faster and faster and getting closer to Sal but the fear is holding his leg from pushing the pedal to the floor so he did manage to catch up. But the voice in his head is chasing him to do it “push it push it to the limits push it now cooper” so he gathers all the courage left in him to put that one last bit of thrust in and he can feel himself getting closer to sal. Unfortunately the boulevard was a few meters away from the ending so he couldn’t manage to catch up. Sal starts to slow down and indicate to Cooper that he was about to pull over. Both of them got on the road sal got out of his car and made their way to Cooper's car :” hey coopa that wasn’t bad at all you sure you haven’t raced before?”

Cooper:” if i did i would’ve beaten you today i was very close”

Sal:” oh come on coopa i wasn’t going top speed”

Cooper:” yeah right”

Both of them shared a laugh enjoying this adrenaline rush that they had. Sal pauses looks down the road :” hey coopa i think you gonna learn a new lesson now but you gonna do it all on your own”

Cooper:” oh really what is it?”

Sal:” you have to teach yourself how escape”

Cooper:”Wait what?”

Sal rushes to start his car as the police are getting closer to them. Turning their sirens on. Sal is out and Cooper has started his car and rushed his way out of there so fast that his tires are drawing his path on the road driving nowhere since his knowledge of the city is still pretty fresh but he’s still managing to keep a distance between him and the police. Switching from looking at what's going in front of him to check on the cops they’re getting way too close for him. Sal is calling him

Cooper: “ you have to help me man i don’t know for how long can i stall”

Sal:” stay calm they won’t crash into you they'll beat the cops, tryna steal your car … head for the interstate they can’t pull you over if you’re on the interstate … godspeed fra”

Cooper hangs up; takes a deep breath and pushes the pedal harder than ever before. It’s just 2 km away. The roads are clear now it’s easy for Cooper to leave but easier for the cops to catch up the closer they get the louder the sirens gets one of the police cars gets by his side the other is trying to sandwich him but he narrowly escapes to the interstate. Police started to slow down. There's no point in chasing him now Cooper is having a blast he’s no longer afraid, instead he’s craving more of this. The rush the speed, flirting with death he kept replaying what happened in his mind over and over. The loop gets interrupted by a phone call from sal :” hey coopa you clear?”

Cooper:” yeah. I’m good”

Sal:”your car has been flagged pass by let me help you try to avoid main roads”

Cooper turns back to dream city. As he got there he find sal and lou2 talking

Lou2:” Mr.cooper nice seeing you again”

sal :” get your car inside the garage i’ll be with you in a second”

Cooper goes back to his car

Lou2:” you better not fuck this man life up man”

Sal:” what are talking about”

Lou2:” don’t bullshit me man you know that would be mad at you for doing this”

Sal:” what the fuck are you talking about”

Lou2:” this whole cinderella putting him under your wings story that you wanna do. I know you, man. You’re tryna put this poor motherfucker in the racing life so you could make yourself feel good when he becomes a pro. Maybe that way you can get a glimmer of what you used to be. The guy just wanna make a better life”

Sal:” he asked me to teach him I’m just doing him a favor nothing more”

Lou2:” you better be”

Sal:” I owe that man a lot of things I’m not gonna lose him over this body”

Cooper:''So what are you going to do to the car sal?”

Sal:’ well uh I’m gonna make it more fitting for racing for a starter we gonna make you a flippable plate so you won’t be flagged 24/7 maybe a turbo I’ll see what I can do go get yourself a drink and chill”

Lou2:''So … Cooper, how’s work going?”

Cooper:” it’s okay nothing special”

Lou2:” I hear that Ethan is working on a new kind of gas for his car”

Cooper:” I’m as clueless as you I just do the paperwork needed and contact the companies that we need for the project most of the work is on the researchers in the lab”

Lou2:” cool cool”

*sips*

Lou2:” you like racing now huh”

Cooper:” maybe it would be better if we enjoyed some cold beers and the music”

Lou2:” whatever you say, man”

Sal” alright I think this is enough for tonight you drive safe I gotta go rest Ethan wants me to deliver one of his cars from the airport tomorrow”

Cooper:” thanks man have a goodnight”

Cooper gets in his car and heads towards his home. He finds Scarlett in front of his home crying

Cooper:” hey you okay?”

Scarlett:” do I look okay!?. I’m sorry it’s just I can’t do this anymore he keeps treating me like a pet”

Cooper:” Ethan?”

Scarlett:” of course it’s him”

Cooper:” I thought you to we’re good together”

Scarlett:” we only look good together because I make us like that I take all that shit in and smile and be pretty while he’s eating my soul out”

Cooper:” hey I don’t know what’s going on by why don’t you talk to him”

Scarlett:” because he knows I can’t he owns me I sold my sold to him. Remember in high school I said that I was going to change school and move with my uncle I didn’t I run off away from my abusive dad who Ethan turned to be exactly like him I was working random jobs sleeping between cars in parking until he saved me from that he was so sweet and caring in the beginning but then he met sal and he became a car guy and all he cares about is his stupid old cars and races and I just can’t handle this anymore”

Cooper:” I’m sorry to hear that”

Scarlett:” no need to be sorry I got myself into this and I’ll find a way out of it. Remember when you used to say Scarlett is scarless ..”

Cooper:” yeah hah”

Scarlett:” well you’re weren’t wrong don’t worry about me I’ll find a way out of her”

Sal pulls to copper’s house

Sal:” hey you okay scar?"

Scarlett:” don’t call me that”

Sal:''My bad. I’m here to take you home to Ethan my phone was ringing like crazy”

Scarlett headed to sal’s car

Sal looked at cooper dead in the eye:”

it’s Ethan she ran because of Ethan”

Cooper hinted that sal was right

Sal:” that motherfucker if I wish I could -”

Cooper:” change things because he owes you? you’re not the only one”

Sal:” coopa you go to sleep don’t forget to practice there’s a race next week. If you wanna join me”
