Chapter 1: Arrival 1

Waking up cheerful early in the morning, Mr. Davis Baker couldn't help but reminisce about his life. His graceful youthful years, his marital life, his wife, his children and their blessed families. Thank you God, he prayed silently.

"Marie, wake up. We need to prepare for our children and grandchildren's arrival". Marie has been married to Davis for more than 39 years and she knows that he is always giddy during this time of the year.

"Oh please! You act as though they'll all come back today". She smiled and placed a soft kiss on her husband's cheek. "Besides Anna may not come back until Christmas Eve".

"Well, she can do that, she is always busy at this time of the year." Davis argued at her little excuse.

"Oh! So other children aren't exempted to come home today?" Marie teased him. "Yes she is my little girl", Davis replied. Kneading her brows, she replied "For Christ's sake she is a mother now".

Walking out of the room he muttered "but she will always be my little girl". "Yeah yeah I know" Marie laughed following him out of the room.

They had their morning prayer and started preparing for their family's arrival.

Martha, their first child was the first person to arrive with her two children. "Hello? Is anyone home? Mom? Dad?" She shouted.

The house seemed empty and that led her to wonder why she is always the first to arrive every Christmas holiday. "Maybe because I am the first child that makes me to always be the first to arrive"she said to herself.

Emily walked angrily behind her mom because she couldn't finish packing her clothes. "Mom I told you that we should be in the house doing something else like packing more clothes and arranging the house before coming". She dropped her bag on the floor and crossed her arms. "We might have waited for dad and we'll all come together" she said.

"Shut up! There is nothing wrong with being the first to arrive. Besides you can get the best room before others arrive". "Yeah you have a point there mom." She said with a sullen face.

Emily wondered why her mom always like going to their grandparents house earlier than others but at the back of her mind she knows that her mom doesn't have anything doing.

"Emily come on let's go inside." Luke cheerful said. "Shut up what do you know? When adults talk, you close your mouth." Emily knows that her brother Luke is a naughty boy who causes alot of mischief all the time.

Luke didn't mind his sister's rebuke, in his heart he had already started planning things to do during this holiday. As a ten year old boy he cared for nothing except for gifts and food during this period.

Running inside the house he cheerfully called his grandmother hoping to get some candy as arrival treat. "My babies are looking more beautiful and taller" their grandma beamed a heart felt smile and said.

Emily muttered, "that's what you always say every Christmas grandma" but she greated her grandmom warmly. To her she didn't really care about family stuff and all, being 17 years made her to feel like an adult.

"Hello mom, how are you doing? How is dad? I can't see him around." Martha said while giving her mom a warm hug. "Oh! Your dad went out to the back but he will be back soon." Marie chuckled at her daughter's enthusiasm. "By the way, I am doing great and how are you doing dear?"

"I am good. I have missed you both."

"Okay everyone go up and arrange your bags and come down to eat lunch."
