Bubblegum
She picked up the flower that had just fallen, smelled it and tossed it. Eventually she found a favorite just like every other day and took it home. Running as fast as she could, Alice slammed into a bubblegum pink door. The door matched her house and the house matched her. Alice had unusual traits that included a throat made of bubblegum and ears filled with flowers. Besides that she was actually quite pretty, dark short hair and eyes that were comparable to an emerald. But that was never acknowledged. This made her life very hard on her but who would trade such unique features for boring ones? Unfortunately along with such a strange appearance came bullies. Alice had loads. One in particular would pull a petal from her ear every time they saw each other.
Her name was Lucy, she had locks of blonde hair and two dark brown buttons for eyes. She was not the most popular but also not the most hated, amongst the boys at least. Everyone was envious of Lucy. but how could they not? She was perfect. What they didn’t know was behind that perfect face of hers lied an insecure little girl who wished that she was unique. Unique like Alice. “Keep your head up,” Lucy’s voice echoed off of the mirror. This was a daily ritual that would take place every morning and night like clockwork. She obsessed over Alice so much so that she wished on every hair strand she had that Alice was miserable. This sparked a callus plan. Lucy wrote in her notebook about how she would pour acid in Alice’s after school tea. How would she even get there? They were anything but friends. The only feasible way was to follow the target home.
The next day Alice woke up to a bee buzzing in her ear. Her dainty room was almost empty with the exception of the giant bee hive in the corner. She turned on her side to get off the white laced bed that would creak at any sudden movement. Same thing applied to her wood floors, pink walls and door knobs that let her go wherever she wanted. Alice walked to the kitchen for blueberries but ended up stepping on a protruding nail. Shrugging it off she kept walking. She ate and left for school.
Alice had her last class next. When she walked in all she could see was the girl with blonde hair and brown button eyes staring at her from across the room. Alice walked to her seat when her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp pain in her ear. “Ouch!” was all she could say. It was normal and happened almost everyday. So why draw more attention to it? After what felt like 10 hours Alice glanced at the clock and read the dismissal time. As started home the bees on her ears listened to her as she walked on. They are the only ones who would listen to her. Unfortunately it only takes 15 minutes to walk home, and she did not know she had company.
Trailing behind her was Lucy in a black pullover not more than 20 feet behind her. A pink door came into view. The bubblegum door stood 4 feet tall and played a song as Alice entered. Everyone knew that Alice would have a glass of tea after school because of an after school routine project for one of her classes. Her reasoning was the warmth of the tea would soothe the gum stuck in her throat. Lucy brought her bottled acid and prepared to dump it in the tea. While Alice turned away to the bathroom, Lucy was quick to poison the steaming drink. She was not a psychopath and did not enjoy seeing others in pain but this was different, wasn’t it? Alice was busy changing out of her uniform into a nightgown that smelled like peaches.
While Alice was tugging on the sleeve a bee came up to her and stung her forearm for attention. After getting the memo she followed the bee wondering what was wrong. And there she was. Lucy poured a bubbling liquid in Alice’s tea. Before she could call the police Lucy turned around and asked Alice if she had an extra cup. Alice was a nervous wreck but she knew she was trapped. “Of course,” was all she said with a shaky voice. Lucy just responded with a chilling grin. The two sat down at the light table accompanied by a creaking noise from when they sat down. Each girl was as hesitant to take a sip of the now cold tea. Alice still was not a hundred percent sure what Lucy came to do. But she did know it would not end well. After 3 minutes of silence Lucy takes a sip of the tea in hopes that Alice would do the same. Alice fell for it. As predicted both girls now have a drink of the green beverage. All that happened next was the sound of laughter mixed with screams of agony filling the air. And the world went black.
The next day at school the news was broadcasted. Alice sat in her chair watching attentively. On it was a tragedy of a blonde haired girl with brown button eyes who had flowers stuffed in her ears and bubblegum shoved down her throat. Alice thought to herself she’s finally gone.
