Chapter 1
The mind wanted to move if only the body could. Something is stronger than Mordica, laying on the ground tied up.
Existed no great gap in time between at school and present. The bell rang for end of class and the familiar routine of any late teen school girl is packing her things. Outside the compound, receives a greeting. Mordica in a moment rising from her memory tells her it a man she knows. Seford. Surprised, the girl wants to confirm whether the man in the car is waiting on her. Can scarcely believe when the answer’s yes.
Seford says get in. Easily she complies. He is driving and she thanks him for taking her home. Seford says for her own good. That response carried an air of oddity considering their pasts – Mordica did not pick up on that.
The drive gives her the chance to take in a route speeding by she normally doesn’t, why didn’t give thought wasn’t the way home – at first. A wondering to her voice asking the man what’s up with the drive. Seford says it’s the way home.
Mordica’s mind processes a while. Her mind settled on what it could be, nervously asks the man take her home. Seford doesn’t take the familiar route that would. Mordica’s nervousness rose again.
The driving continued till the car parks. They’d arrived at a little farm. Seford exits and without being told, his catch followed suit and into its house.
He exchanged looks with the child, who once some moments elapse, strait up tells her stepdad he can’t have it now like it was before. Seford tells her its for the best and cares for his daughter, who landed the obvious - he used to be stepdad till he and mom split. Seford says he very much is because separation wasn’t settled by the courts.
Mordica corrects the divorce isn’t settled by the courts. Not yet.
She spoke a word rather taboo in her teen mind – divorce.
Her fingers push buttons on a 1980 Western Electric model 2500 DMG telephone. Verbal tennis between them ended. When the voice on the line answers, Mordica tells mom Seford picked her up from school and not to worry, she’s fine. What the man wanted her to pass on.
The girl desperately adds she doesn’t want to stay with him. Not what he wanted to hear. Mom panics. The call breaks when he roughly seizes the phone.
Arms secured to her back, tied with a handset cord and the feet by the different RJ11 cable. The same phone she’d talked to mom with. Carrying her in his arms, deposited the girl in the basement downstairs.
Rounds out how she in the situation. She’s nervous, not frightened because he did live with her as a father in the past. Mordica doubts he’ll go full crazy. In a way her behaviour outside the norm for a kidnapped.
Freedom snatched away like that, never appreciate something till it’s gone. She’s the one assuming a man with his baggage would show up at school and take her to her home.
She lay on the ground some time. Wherever her body touched the ground its sore. Tried positioning her body now and again for comfort. No matter her feelings of Seford, her human response is getting out.
Wanted to cry out but then again thinks better of it. Herself to rely on. Arduous moving her body. First inching her way in a desired, unwelcome way lying down, toward the wall. Compares to a worm. Next manages to stand painfully after gradual time against it. Moving hurts tied up. Muscles and the cord tight to her flesh.
Neither bonds come off when she tried to loosen. What to do? She buried how the situation could turn worse and rather helpless in her condition. Moving across the wall reached stairs – the bottom.
Her next movement almost landed the girl face first into them. A hop. Going nowhere if she not only tried again, but do it right. Both feet left the basement floor and onto the first step. The cords binding the feet did not allow hopping one foot at a time.
Repeated on the next directly above that step. The girl played it safe, taking her time with what are kind of plenty. Falling now…
Made it. No sign of him in the house. Freeing her body of a painful cable is a lower priority and her body gave off unfamiliar sensations from this new movement, the brain tried interpreting, while the consciousness is concerned with safety. Get out!
Hopped in rooms between tables and chairs, in their absence leaned on the wall to stay upright. Out the door and into the day.
Mordica at her age knew enough about kidnapping but thought you never really know till you get it first-hand. Not far a main road and with nothing to lean on, hops the tens of feet over. A passing vehicle if it came, couldn’t miss her.
