~Sneak peek~

“Horace can we-”

“Lily not this again,” Horace stoop up looking balked but she wasn’t letting him go this time.

They cannot keep on avoiding it every time she brought it up.

Lily wanted another child yet he seemingly couldn’t give her one.

“Horace we really need to talk,” Lily’s heart was now racing, “I really want this. I’m not barren so there isn’t any reason to say ‘no’ to this…I can’t cheat outside marriage.”

He ignored her and headed towards the kitchen, not that he cared.

Even though imagining Lily in bed with another man(which she wouldn’t do) didn’t settle well with Horace, he couldn’t admit to her out loud.

The two had no idea that the children could hear their conversation.

Euphrosine, a shadow and their daughter, was hiding in the corner trembling with dread while staring at their parents tussling.

She always sneaked up on them but was always saddened by their interactions.

“I know you wouldn’t impregnate me because first and foremost, I’m not her and Carlyle was a mistake,” Lily’s lips quivered while she implied their son.

She looked at her trembling fingers sorrowfully.

Horace turned slowly with a sarcastic smile on his face, “so you’ve finally clicked that all this,” he swayed his arms in the air implying the house, “me, you, the kids, this ‘family’ is all child play…it’s a mistake.”

“I know I’m not Euphrosine’s mom,” she raised her head with anguish and Horace noticed tears rolling down her cheeks.

“But she’s not here, I am. Romilly is dead Horace and no matter how you refuse to accept it…she’s gone.”

Lily was always strong, since she’s a paladin, a protector but whenever it came to emotions, she was rather weak and desperate which she hated.

His fists clenched and unclenched at his sides while he stared at her deadly in the eye, “don’t you dare say her name, sweets, or you’ll regret it.”

“That night wasn’t supposed to happen, if I could reverse time, we wouldn’t be here,” his words were like arrows to her heart.

A sob left her lips while she took in the man she loves.

“I love you Horace, you know that very much,” her voice trembled, the hurt and despair etched in her eyes while she tried to stand firm and not slump on the floor.

Horace’s eyes softened, subtle remorse evident while he took her in.

He wasn’t sure where Lily stood or who she was to him but she reminded him so much of her, thus keeping the wound in his heart raw and hurting yet he wanted it to heal.

“I’m sorry…I can’t reciprocate your love,” he whispered softly while his back was facing her.

That was enough to make Lily feel empty and lost.
