Chapter One: Moss

It was sunrise. I woke up and put my Spotify playlist on shuffle. As “emo-but-not-too-much” blared out of my earbuds, I sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. While Gerard Way screamed about teenagers, I laced my Demonias, put on my eyeliner, and walked to the bus stop.

I spotted my sibling Bee as I walked toward the crowd of people. As soon as I arrived, the bus pulled up in front of us. Even though it was the first day at school, Bee and I didn’t dare to sit in the front row. We both headed for the back row, only to find Bandit saving our seats.

“How did they let you wear that on the bus?” Bee asked as they saw Bandit’s American Idiot t-shirt.

“It’s called direct eye contact,” Bandit replied as he stared Bee in the eyes, which resulted in them shifting from foot to foot uncomfortably.

“Are you gonna offer us a seat or not, ‘Mr. I’m-cooler-than-Frank-Iero’?” I said as Bandit narrowed his eyes and slid over. After a short conversation about which Emo Trinity band was better, we arrived at the school. We all split in different directions, promising to meet together at lunch. I headed to math class, wishing that the day was over already.

3 class periods later, it was time for the school safe haven: lunch. Bee and Bandit were already waiting for me at our normal table, straw wrappers everywhere. “About time, Moss,” Bandit said sarcastically as I took a seat beside him.

A few seconds later our sister Iris walked over, tripping over her Click-07’s (editors note: click-07’s are a type of Demonia platform shoe). She took a seat beside Bee and fixed the straps. Bandit and I exchanged a look of amusement, which elicited a dirty look from Iris.

The four of us must have been a sight to anyone “normal”. We were a bunch of 14-year-old emos, dressed in all black with Demonia platforms and earbuds. We were the ones labeled as “weird”, “emo”, and “cringe”. But most importantly, we were Kisserena.
