Amber

When I woke up, I never thought anything odd would happen. I didn’t think anything bad would happen when I sipped my milk and ate my mickey mouse shaped waffles. But when I really thought something was odd was when I sat in the yellow bus. First, everyone was talking in low whispers. Even Velvette and Nevaeh, the loudest kids in the entire school. Britney or my best friend had saved me a spot. A few kids snickered at me, but that was about it. Britney smiled softly when I told her a joke.

“Brit, what happened?” I asked.

“Well, nothing happened, well you know...” she trailed off. She pointed at the Tiger or the biggest bully. She quietly sipped her Coca Cola, since when had she liked Coca Cola?

“Anyway, there has been a rumor.... about you....”

“Britbrat, come here don’t stay near losers!” Kathy sneered. Britney moved with a shy smile. Since when had Brit liked Kathy?Since when had Brit been called Britbrat? Kathy gasped at Britney's finger nails and pulled out candy pink nail polish. Britney quickly painted her nails and smiled.

"Don't stay near losers!" Kathy's voice echoed through my head. And the way she said it. loSERs.

I imagined Britney saying, "Yah, she's such a wimp, she acts like a kindergartener," I imagined Britney swiping her blonde ponytail and smirking at the frayed edges of my jeans and my unpainted nails.

"Looks like she just got out of bed! Haha Haha Hahahaha hahaha!" No wait, Kathy and her friends laughed like, "Ahaha Ahaha ahahahaha," I imagined Britney drinking Coca Cola instead of sprite and sneering at my plain water.

"Sprite is for babies," she would say. The bus stopped. Kids piled out. I waited till the last and climbed out.

"Have a good day, Amber," Mr. Garcia, the bus driver said. Sorry Mr. Garcia, but I won't be having one. I digged into my lunch box and handed him a chocolate chip cookie. The least I could do was make his day a good one. Mr. Garcia smiled largely.

"You've made my day!" he exclaimed. He patted my head. I turned around and exited the bus. Britney and Kathy had gone all the way to the basketball court. The only person who was in walkable distance to me was Trix .

"Hi Trix!!" I gushed. She dropped her small backpack. Oh right, Trix was like me, got backstabbed by her own friend. I think her friend's name was Megan. Megan or Lauren. Lauren, maybe Megan had betrayed Trix for Kathy. Ugh, Kathy was so mean!

Trix gazed at me. "You lost your friend," she said flatly.

"Yees, how d-did you k -know?" I stammered.

"Many have come before you," she waved her hand dramatically.

"Like who?"

"Mabel, Kaytlin, Victor and many more," Mabel was a quiet kid who made paintings and read books. Kaytlin was a loud girl who got mad about everything. Victor was a talented boy, who had amazing grades and made amazing music. These people were always at different places during recess and lunch. Mabel was either in the library or in the art room. Kaytlin was either in the principal's office or in the classroom, finishing an assignment. Victor was always in the music room. It would take two days to find them and talk to them. But I did have Trix. Trix had passed me and was going near the class.

"Trix, wanna be friends?" I said, catching up to her.

"Okay," She said, obviously bored. Not much of a reaction, but I pumped my fist in the air.

"Meet me in fantasy section of the library during recess,"

"OK"

"Yes!"

I made my way to my first class, english.

"Hi Mr.Gordon!" I said. I moved to the one of the last desks.

" 'Hi' is disrespectful, 'Good Morning, Sir' is acceptable," he drawled. Yah, whatever.

Kathy, Britney and Megan, maybe Lauren entered the room.

As Kathy slipped past my desk, she slid me a note.

It said:

Dear Miss Unpopular,

U are dumb and are a loser. Maybe u can look normal, but you're not. I bet ur a monster and I bet u have lice in your hair, Miss Carrots. Ur ordinary, but yet a monster of ugliness, loserness and wimpiness + more. Ur stupid, yet dorky and nerdy. If u want to know about all the adjectives to describe yourself, search "Bad adjectives to describe a person,"

- Kathy

Ugh. What could be worse. I scribbled a note back. Then thought better. I raised my hand.

"Can I be excused? I have to use the restroom," I asked.

"Come back, don't run away," Mr. Gordon grouched. I rushed to the restroom. 1 tear, two tear, no! I bumped into a into a pretty girl. She had inky black hair and dark brown eyes that looked like black. Her hair was in a bob cut. She had tears in her eyes, too. Was this Mabel? Yah. Mabel sniffed. In her hands was a drawing of a bouquet of flowers.

"Don't go," I said softly as she tried to turn. Her face turned red. She looked so pretty.

"Mabel,"

"Yes?" she whispered. Her voice was barely heard.

"Meet me at the fantasy section of the library, during recess, please,"

"OK" She turned and dashed down the hallway. I pumped my fist in the air. I raced back to class, smiling brightly. Kathy rolled her eyes and frowned when I smiled happily. I was thinking of all the best words in the world. Peace, Love, Dove,Violet, Happiness, Charity, Amber, Ember, Friendship, Rose. My thoughts were ended when the bell rang. I jumped.

"Bye, Sir!" I shrieked. Just one more class and breaktime! The entire of math, I was distracted. What would I say to Trix and Mabel.

"Well I wanted to ask you about your friendship problems. I have one too," Then I would show them the note. The bell rang.

Recess! I felt like a rose.
