Ramona Simmons is sixteen and sees the ghost of grief her brother left behind when he died. She meets James Harmon, the two instantly thrust into a whirlwind toxic trauma bond. For James, Ramona breaks all the rules she'd set in place to keep her heart safe. James isn't perfect, and he can't commit, constantly asking for more than he'll give. Neither of them know how to love, because of trauma they've endured, but they keep trying. It's one-sided, with Ramona putting all the effort in as James goes off with other girls. Ramona can't quit, until she's forced to. She could only deny the inevitable for so long, and eventually lets James go, understanding that he will never be able to give her what she deserves.
