Mistake Number One

“Ava Elizabeth Hayes! Get down here right now!,” Amelia shouted from downstairs.

I groaned and rolled my eyes. Amelia is my step-mother and she never shouted, so I knew I was in big trouble for something. I got up off of my bed and jogged downstairs to see Amelia holding a pregnancy test box in her hand.

“Why did I find this in the trash can?!”

“Uhm... Why were you going through the trash can?”

She scoffed

“Are you fucking kidding me right now, Ava?”

I chuckled

“No, but it’s not mine.”

She laughed sarcastically

“Do you think I’m dumb?!”

I raised an eyebrow at her and she gasped. I laughed. It really wasn’t mine, so I actually didn’t know who’s that was

“Nah, but it’s not mine like I said.”

“You’re a lie”

I chuckled

“Am I though?”

She nodded and I smirked

“Okay then,” I said, shrugging.

“I’m going out to buy another test. Your father is going to kill you if you’re pregnant, Ava”

I chuckled

“Tell him to put his guns down then,” I chuckled

She scoffed

“Yeah, whatever.”

She walked out the door and I chuckled. I went back up to my room only to see my father in there. I gasped quietly as I shut the door.

“Father...”

“Are you or are you not pregnant, Ava.”

“I’m not...”

He walked over to me, pushing me into my door. He bent down and looked me in my eyes. I breathed shakily

“Hmmm...”

He bent my neck sideways and sniffed my neck deeply, earning a soft gasp from me

“W-What are you doing?”

He grabbed my shoulders as I gasped. Someone rang the doorbell, breaking his silence

“Go get the door,” he whispered.

I whimpered and ran downstairs. I opened the door to see my “cousin”, Tyler, standing there. (He’s basically my cousin since my dad has known his mom since they were little )

“Tyler?!,” I gasped

He laughed

“Hey, Ava!,” he said, hugging me

“Oh my God! It’s been so long! What the hell!,” I said, hugging him back tightly

“Too long,” he said, smiling

“Wow... W-What are you doing here?,” I said, letting him in, shutting the door behind him

He shrugged

“I figured I’d come and visit my favourite person,” he said, smiling widely

I chuckled

“Who is it, Ava?,” my dad shouted

I scoffed

“Hello, Mr.Hayes!,” Tyler shouted

My dad came out of my room and looked down at us

“Hmmm... Tyler,” he said, softly, not coming down the stairs

“I was just gonna take Ava to dinner if that was ok,” he said, wrapping his arm around my waist as I gasped quietly.

“Hmm... And you’re how old again?”

“19, sir”

My dad mumbled something

“Mhm. Have her back by 10 at the latest"

“Great,” he said, smiling with his teeth

My dad looked at me evilly and walked into his room. Tyler chuckled and let go of me.

“So you’re volunteering me to go to dinner with you?,” I said, looking up at him.

He laughed

“That sounds about right :)”

I chuckled and got my shoes on. He walked me outside to his car. He had a sexy, white Pininfarina Batista. I forget exactly what he does, but he has a lot of money, I can say that ._.

“Wow...,” I said, getting in the passenger seat as he got in the drivers seat

He chuckled and turned on the car

“So, Mr.Tyler, what really brings you to Colorado? I mean it takes hours to get out here from California,” I said as he began driving

He glanced over at me

“You don’t think I came out here to see you?”

I chuckled

“No. You didn’t even text me first. And you always text me if you’re planning to come see me or come out here.”

“Hmmm... You have a valid point,” he said, sheepishly

I looked at him as I laughed. He fluttered his lips

“Well. I came out here to actually take you to dinner so that we could talk about something....”

“Which might be?”

He gulped visibly

“Just hush, Ava. You’ll see,” he said, blushing

I chuckled

“Fine then,” I said facing the dashboard and smirking as I crossed my arms.

We got to the restaurant about 10 minutes later and we went inside. It was absolutely gorgeous

“Jesus, Tyler, I wish you would’ve told me we were going to some damn exclusive restaurant. I would’ve gotten all fancy or whatever. Got me looking like a bum in here. Hell,” I said, looking around in amazement.

He chuckled

“You look beautiful. Stop it.”

I looked at him and smiled slightly. Was he... flirting with me? Oh jeez, Ava. Stop with these thoughts... ----Or was he ._.

He got us a booth in the corner of the restaurant and we sat across from each other as the female waiter set our menus on the table.

“I’ll be back in a few minutes to get y’all’s drinks, ok?”

Tyler smiled and nodded. The waiter smiled back at him and walked away. I scoffed

“Ew...”

He chuckled

“Oh, stop, Ava. You know I don’t like Blondes”

“Yeah, sure, mister”

He rolled his eyes and chuckled. I looked at the menu

“Holy shit! $5.00 for a coke?! Where are we?! Gordon Ramsay's restaurant?!!"

He laughed

“No, ma’am,” he said, smirking at me

I sighed

“You ready to tell me why I’m here though?”

“Uhmmmm... No”

I rolled my eyes and scoffed

“Fine. I guess I’ll leave then," I said, getting up

“And you’re gonna get back home how exactly?”

I blinked

“Do you not see this ass? I can get a ride”

He chuckled

“With that 'ass', you’ll be getting more than just a damn ride, missy.”

"Tyler, really? I'm 17. I can take care of myself."

He raised an eyebrow at me

"Hmmm... Sit down, Ava."

I sat back down

"You and I have been extremely close friends for only God knows how long, right?"

I raised an eyebrow at him

"Yes?"

"Right, ok, and during these past few years, I've grown some pretty strong feelings for you..."

I blinked

"W-What????....."

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
