Anti Mate
“Eilyse! You have another package!” My mother calls to me from downstairs. I quickly wore a robe and wrapped my magenta-pink hair in a towel.
I run downstairs and retrieve the package. “Yes, my outfit came,” I exclaim happily. “I am going to go to the club. in this one.” I tell my mother.
“Just be careful, HEAT season could be any day now.” My mother warns. “I know, I have been careful. Plus Julie will be with me.” Mom frowns. “I don’t like that girl.” I sigh and walk to my room.
My parents are old school; they believe I must live with them until I find my mate. I don’t want to see my mate; I don’t need to be taken care of. I do fine on my own. I have a great job and could get a place if I want.
My phone rings as I enter my bedroom. “Hey Julie, what’s up?”
‘Girl are you ready yet? I am about to pull up and if you aren’t dressed I swear I am going to shove a dildo up your ass.’
I laugh and quickly try to get into my new black and white open-back romper outfit. I opt out of the underwear because who the fuck wants panty lines?
I also opt out of the bra for obvious reasons. Tonight I turn 22, and I plan on losing my virginity to a lucky stranger. That way, when I meet my mate, he will reject me, and I can live my life how I want.
I run down the stairs to meet Julie. “Eilyse, make sure to use protection. Your mate won’t be happy about you being a single mother.”
My mother yells as I enter Julie’s car. I don’t think my mother realizes that the person that can get me pregnant is my mate. She got pregnant with me by her mate.
“Your mom is a trip.” Julie says as she pulls out of the lot.
“But she means well.” I mumble, pulling my phone out and checking my Sextagram. I snap a selfie and post.
Moments later, my notifications blow up. “Whoever your mate is, is going to have a hard time dealing with you.” Julie says.
I smile at her, “I don’t need a mate. Im sure the moon goddess understands that.”
I look out the window and stare at the evening sky. “Eilyse did you want to grab something to eat? Also make sure you book yourself a hotel.”
I tap on my phone. “It’s already taken care of. And with the heat coming we’re off work until it passes.”
We both put our hands up and make a sideways OK, rubbing our pointer and thumb together. “Paid!”
We say at the same time and laugh.
Julie pulls up at the hotel. “I think it would be better to leave the car here and walk to the club.” She explains.
I hop out of the car.
“Let me check if my room is ready.” I walk into the hotel, only to be stopped by wolves from the pack. “Hey Eilyse, you gonna join us for the heat party, or are you too prude?”
I turn and face Marcus. “Look I don’t have time to entertain you.” He frowns but throws an arm around me. “Thought you didn’t want a mate, so who are you saving yourself for?”
I laugh and take his arm, bending it until it cracks. “Ahhh!”
“Touch me like that again and I’ll have you kicked out the pack.”
I huff off, and the other guys from the group are all cheering my name.
One other guy from the group comes up to me.
“Hey E did you hear? Your father is planning on merging with another pack. Since you haven’t found your mate and he doesn’t want a woman leading his pack.” I sigh and nod.
That is another reason I don’t want a mate. Some fucking nobody gets to swoop in and take everything from me just because he is a male. That’s bullshit.
“I know. He is at their pack negotiating terms right now. I think he wants me to marry the other packs son.” I frown
“I will run away before that happens.” He pats my shoulder gently. “If we had a choice, we would always choose you.” I smile.
“Thanks Kayne, you’re the best beta I can ask for.” He gives me a quick hug. “I’ll tear Marcus a new one.” He winks at me and walks back to the group.
Julie catches up to me. “You know if you don’t find your mate, you can always have Kayne. His mate died, so he is fair game, and well, he is a Beta.” I frown.
It has been five years since his mate died from an incurable werewolf disease. He decided not to mark her, but he spent every waking minute with her and was there when she finally passed.
Kayne went on a three-year journey to pray to the moon goddess. But she hasn’t answered him. He believes he doesn’t have a second chance, mate.
“I am not the type to advantage of someone like that.”
I walk to the counter and ask the receptionist if my room is ready.
“Ah, yes your room is ready for check in. Did you have any bags you would like our bellhop to carry for you?” I shake my head. I plan on just buying whatever. Hopefully, they stocked my closet the way I asked them to.
I thank her and head to my room. Julie is checking into her own room, so we decide to meet after we settle on food.
“So you really don’t want to meet your mate?” Julie asks as we finish our dinner and walk to the club.
The club is a neutral place called Nightly Howl that falls on neutral territory between my pack, Diamond Heart, and the Blood Moon Stalkers. My father wants to merge our pack with the Blood Moon Stalkers; only the goddess knows why.
I think it is a bad idea because those guys go looking for trouble. The only reason why they haven’t started shit with us is because my dad is really good at kissing ass.
But that’s for another day…
“Eilyse, welcome back. Good thing you are here tonight, the Alpha dragged his son out to mingle. Maybe you can introduce yourself to him, he’s a real sweet guy.” The bouncer says. I frown at his words.
“Why do I feel like you’re pulling my leg, huh Eros?” Eros, the Beta of Blood Moon Stalkers, leans in.
“Go see for yourself, Princess.”
