Excellent!!
"Tackles head-on the racism that still exists in the American south and in other parts of our nation. Shows how whenever people encounter hardships, there is a knee-jerk reaction for many people to separate into groups where they feel safe or safer. Excellent characterizations of the two main protagonists, one white, one black. Both strong and yet flawed, human. Loved the adventure they undertook through a landscape, once familiar, now alien, hostile. Marsh knows how and when to compress the action to move a story quickly. Also knows when to leave certain things up in the air to invite his reader to fill in the blanks. Found many of the other characters fascinating too. Especially Winona, Chang, Yolanda and Sammy, and I could go on and on; however, the most important comment would be for readers to uncover each character's life experiences that have influenced who they are, as well as who they will become. Marsh has found a wonderful balance in a story that is both literary in that it delves into character's inner lives and yet there is so much well described action in it too. I now understand why the novel is entitled The Pearl. Bravo to Marsh!!"

"This is an adventurous, expressive, demonstrative and emotional story, worth taking the time to read. The story is dynamic from the very beginning and it kept me interested till the very end. The scene when Jamal and Sam met Lucy was very intense and also very amusing. I love your style of writing. It made me not want to take my eyes away from the story, it made me feel for the characters, worry about what is going to happen and worry about how everything is going to turn out. This means that your style of writing completely took me into the story, captivated me, enchanted me and made me live the lives of the characters. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this story and I must compliment your writing style once again."
