Walking down the stairs I smell a very sweet smell. It’s mid spring and the flowers are blooming like crazy. This also means it’s time for allergies. Yay I’m so excited! I sniff the air and walk to my car. I start the car and drive through my small little town. I love this town. It’s so quiet and calm. I wish this was my hometown but it’s not. I was born in Los Angeles. Los Angeles was too much for me to handle. The prices were too high and I’m not that rich. But that all changed when I moved to Winslow, Arizona.
I drove my way to the cafe we have here. It is the best cafe in town. The coffee is just right, not too sweet but not too bitter.
I ordered a sweet caramel mocha on ice. I walked to my car and then suddenly I heard shots.
Boom
Boom
Boom
3 times.
I got in my car and drove slowly to my house and locked all my doors. This has never happened before. This town is very calm, why would someone want to shoot a gun? I go to my living room and close the blinds. If someone is killing people I won’t be the one dead. I sat down on my brown leather couch and raised my feet onto the coffee table. I grabbed my book and started reading it. It was a thriller. And the best kind of thriller at that. It was by my favorite author and her books are so good. They make me want to read and never put the books down.
That’s when I heard it. A door creaked open. I paused reading feeling my blood rushing out of my head.
It was suddenly hard to breathe and I felt thumping in my head. I heard a click. I gasp. It’s the gun.
No no this can’t be happening. I’m too young. I breathe in 1 out 1. In 1 out 1. In 1 out 1. Then he popped out.
“Hi Chelsea!” No not Brandon! It can’t be. He smirked his wicked smirk and paced towards me. I got up from the couch and caught a glimpse of his gun. How did he get it? Did he steal it? Wasn’t he in jail? Millions of questions ran through me but if I die I won’t get them answered. Therefore I must stay alive! I ran to my bedroom when I got the chance. The ginger colored room I spent most of my weekends in felt unfamiliar to me. I held my door closed and pushed as hard as I could, but being a girl Brandon was way stronger than I was. He eventually pushed the door open and I hid in the closet.
“Oh where did she go? Normally in the movies they get out of the window but this isn’t a movie, so she must be in the-” He started striding towards the closet. I went to the back and pushed myself into a little corner. “CLOSET!” He yelled and smiled wildly. But that grin suddenly vanished when he didn’t see me. I scrunched my body as hard as I could together and took a deep breath. It was quite loud.
“Come on Chelsea stop trying to play hide and seek. I know you are in this room, come out already, I won’t do anything.” Except he will do something. He will kill me, that’s what he will do.
Brandon was my ex boyfriend. He was abusive and always took his anger out on me. Although I did nothing wrong to him, I just loved him. I was his punching bag. I always told my best friend but it turns out she was with him too. I would end up on the floor with a puddle of blood around me. I reported him and he went to court and got sentenced, but I’m not quite sure how much time. That same day I had to attend a funeral for my sister. She had cancer and fought for her life for 3 years. My life without him was amazing but now he’s back.
He walked out of the room. Yes, finally. I got out the closet only to be tackled to the ground and held by the neck. Well I guess he wasn’t gone. Goodbye world, it was nice living.
He threw me on the ground and kicked me hard. “Wow it’s been forever since I have done that. It feels good, let me do that again.” He kicked me right into my stomach only to make me cough really hard. I couldn’t breathe and felt like I was suffocating. I heard a high pitched ringing noise and tried to block out the noise. My head was throbbing uncontrollably and I couldn’t focus anymore. Everything went blurry and I felt another kick. Then suddenly, it went black.
I woke up in a dark cold room, my body aching and I could barely breathe. I looked around but I couldn’t see anything, it was too dark. I tried getting up but felt a rope dig through my skin.
He tied me.
I pulled harder but the pain was unbearable. What if he was right there watching me while smirking?! I shook my head, no he can’t be. I pulled once more and fell to the ground. It’s all over now. I’m gonna die and he’s gonna be satisfied with it. I heard a faint sound of feet stepping on the ground and heels clicking the floor. I could sense someone coming, I just didn’t know who. That’s when I heard a voice, her voice. I went still to hear what she was saying. “You got her? That’s good, now it’s my turn your work is done.” Then it was him. “Actually I was wondering if I could hel-”
“NO, you’ve had your fun, now it’s time for mine”. He started again, “But all these years I haven’t gotten to hit her or anything!” “It doesn’t matter your work is done.” I heard a faint sound of a slap and footsteps getting closer to me.
Light cracks in and I see a tall slim body and long black slick hair. Caroline. She walks in like a model and smiles at me. For a second it looks genuine, but I know it’s fake. I smile back just to play along. “Hey Chelsea, it’s been a while hasn’t it?” I nod and smile, “Yes it has. How’ve you been?” Her facial expression showed it all, she was confused. “Ok, well I’m gonna untie you. I can’t believe he would do such a thing.” She untied me from the ropes he had me bound in. I tried to get up but Caroline ended up shoving me back down, her smile had faded. I tried to struggle out of her grasp but she held me tight and wouldn’t let go. “Hey Caroline?” I questioned her. “Yeah?”
“You never answered my question.” She had a questioned look in her eyes but then hid it behind a blank expression. “And your question was?” “How’ve you been?” She nodded and smiled genuinely again. “I’ve been good.” She hid her smile and grabbed my arm. “Come on, you’re coming with me.” I got up and stopped her from walking, I looked at her suspiciously, “Caroline, why are you here? First off, how did you know I was here?” Her demeanor and expression faltered, but just for a second. She went back to her cheery smile. “Your little ‘boyfriend’ called me to tell me he was out of jail. He told me about how he attempted and succeeded at catching you and how he wanted me to be here.” I nodded just playing along and walked with her. “How did he know about me though?” She just shrugged, “Don’t know.”
I shrugged, trusting her but then we went outside. I saw men with guns pointed at me and gasped. “Caroline why?” She just smirked, “Because I’m getting revenge.” I scrunched my face. “Revenge for what?” I ask. She sighed. “You put Brandon in jail and I had to bail him out. Do you know how much money that was? Now you are the one that caused that so you need to die.” I started laughing. “What?! I have to die because of that? Wow so.. I don’t know the word.” She just stared at me.
“Well it’s time to die now, goodbye.” She waved when all of a sudden...boom she was shot. Her blood splattered on my face and she fell to the floor. I gasped and walked back 2 steps. The guys who were pointing guns at me looked at where the shot came from and I took my chance to run. I ran inside the building and ran through the hall. I was running and felt a powerful burst on my right shoulder. I fell face first on the ground and groaned. Come on Chelsea you need to run. I got up and ran some more.
I got out of the building only to see some guard point their guns at me again. I turned to run to the doors again when another sudden burst went through my leg. I fell. I saw Brandon coming out with a gun and pointing it at me. He smirked and shot the gun.
...
I felt no impact at all. I opened my eyes to see Brandon laying on the floor. I looked around and saw my friend Alex standing with a gun. “Alex, what are you doing here?” I questioned. “Well Caroline called me to help her and I said ok but obviously I was gonna help you not her.” I smiled and hugged her tight. “Let’s get you to the doctor.” I limped out of the building and went to the hospital.
At the hospital I had a surgery to take out the bullets and they watched me until I was better and could walk.
