Chapter 1

“Alvina, honey you need to wake up or we’ll be late to the airport” Mother screamed from downstairs. I was up in my room getting ready for the past hour. Like always they never notice me.

Hello, my name is Alvina Razor Delorme. I'm eleven so old. Some interesting facts about me: I'm an orphan who was abandoned at birth in an orphanage called Poor Soul Orphanage, and in the paper that was left with me when I was a baby it said to leave me with the last names Razor Delorme and to never change or add anything to them. One more fact I was adopted by the Lity family when I was one.

I was selected to go to a magical school where they will teach me how to use my powers. There they take anyone that has the potential to have powers and for the next seven years, they will train you to use them. The school is called North Point Academy. It’s located in another dimension called Elmoria.

To be honest I didn't know much about it at first. I didn't want to go but I noticed that all of my friends got the same letter so I had no choice but to go. I didn’t want to be left alone in my middle and high school s. My parents were kinda pushing me to go. I think they were just happy to get me out of the house so they can focus on their birth child. I and her never got along.

“I’m coming mother” I yelled at her back running down the stairs. All of my bags were in the car. Father made sure everything was done early so we wouldn’t be running around at the last minute.

“Are we ready?” Mother asked father once everyone got the car. The birth child didn’t want to see me off because “she will start crying” even though I knew she just didn’t want to wake up at three in the morning.
Father nodded and rode away.

No one talked on the way to the airport, not even the radio guy. My parents acted sad that they had to say goodbye to me but I knew they were excited. I could tell by the little yellow cloud on their heads.

Once we arrived at the airport father got everything out and we all walked together to the ticket place where we weighed the bags and paid the extra for the weight and bags.

Father and Mother walked me to security.

“We will miss you, honey. I’ll try to write to you every month” Mother faked crying hugging me.

Father didn’t cry he just gave me a handshake and said “I knew you were something special the first time I saw you” he finished with a big fat fake smile.

I let go of the first and walked through security when I turned around and they were gone. Couldn't even
hang there for a few more seconds.

I gathered my things and walked to my gate.

The airport was practically empty, the only people I saw were the janitors and a few travelers that came a little too early like me.

I took my ticket out of my bag to see what gate I was
supposed to go to, it said gate A1. I looked around me and saw that I was on the A-side. The plane leaves at blue hour, parentheses it says 5:53, but no pm or am.
What's wrong with this school? Do they know anything about time zones? I looked at my watch and it said 3:00 am, I got time.

My legs hurt and I was out of breath. I sat down in the corner to relax. There was one other person in the gate but they had their back to me so I couldn't see who it was. I don’t have a phone so I couldn’t text my friend and check where they were.

I sat down and closed my eyes. I don’t usually dream but the times I do I’m in an old church. The windows are mosaics of people fighting and a lady flooding with light coming out her head. There's a big crucifix in the center.

It starts with me walking and seeing that crucifix with the lady in the back. When I ever look at it I’m scared.
I kept thinking that this will be my last time alive. It always ended with people screaming for help and people on the floor dead. I would look up and would see a person that would be covered in dark energy, I felt like I knew the person but at the same time, I didn’t. When I woke up I would have tears in my eyes.

They started when Emma introduced us to Jake. That was also the time when the clouds started to appear.

I opened my eyes to see Jake Bracker staring at me. He looks like a mixture of Michael Jordan and Colin Kaepernick. Jake's skin tone and tallness match Michael Jordan but he gets his good looks from Colin Kaepernick, minus the tattoos but add the big afro. I don’t think he is as tall as Michael Jordan, maybe 5’9’’ for a 12-year-old.

He is an orphan like me and my friends. He is older than us but is at the same grade as us because according to the rumors he failed kindergarten and had to repeat it.

I don’t hate him, I just find him very annoying because he wants to be in our friend group but I don’t let him, he has some anger issues he needs to resolve.
I don’t want other people thinking that we hang around a failure. The only reason I know him is that Emma introduces us.

“What?” I asked him.

“Are you also going to North Point Academy?” he asked me.

“Yes,” I simply said.

“That's good, I won’t be alone in this new school,” he smiled at me. He sat beside me.
Leave please, I said in my head.

“How long have you been waiting here?” I asked, trying to make small talk.

“Umm, since yesterday” he lowered his voice as if he was embarrassed.

“What! Why?” I said louder than I thought.

“My foster family kicked me out. I didn’t know where to go so I just came here” he said gloomily. The cloud in his head turned black. Oh yeah, I forgot he is the kid that keeps jumping from house to house.

“What are you looking at?” He asked.

“Oh, nothing” replied, looking away from the black cloud that I could only see.

After that no one spoke, Jake went back to his seat in the middle of the gate.
Before I close my eyes again something else happens someone screaming “your liar”

I stood up from my seat to see Tessa, one of my best friends, running towards Jake. Behind her Emilio, my other best friend, and four other people ran behind her in a panic.

I’ve never seen Tessa run so fast. She ran to Jake and began to fight him. It looked like a chihuahua fighting a wolf. He didn’t do anything. Like the “I don't hit girls” rule that most boys have. I ran to them to try to separate them but it was no use. Tessa ended up hitting me hard on the face. When the other people got to me they also tried to separate them and this time it worked. One of the guys in the other group dragged screaming and kicking Tessa away.

Jake didn’t seem to be affected; it was like he was expecting it. He straightened his clothes and sat back down like it was nothing.

I went to Tessa who was still screaming but stopped kicking. I looked at the guy as if telling him to let go. As soon as he let go I hugged Tessa. The hug seemed to make her feel better. She stopped screaming and began to cry in my arms.

“He knows where she is... He was the last one to see her... he lied...” She sobbed. The person she must be referring to must be Emma, her foster sister, the whole reason we are friends. Emma was the one that introduced us when we were in kindergarten. Emma disappeared a month ago, people think she ran away but Tessa said she wouldn't have done that, she would have taken her. When Emma disappeared no one looked for her, not even the police. The worst part was that she didn’t leave a note for all of us to read.
Two weeks before she disappeared she introduced us to Jake. Those two were inseparable for a time. She stopped hanging out with us and spent all of her time with him.

This isn’t the first time Emma disappeared but it is the longest. She will come back as she always does.

“Come let's sit in a chair” I whispered to her. I looked at Emilio for help. He got the message and helped us stand up and walked us to my seat in the corner.

“Can you stay with her for a few minutes?” I asked him.

“Yes, do your magic” He replied. I love him. That’s
Emilio Rodrigues. He is super understanding. He comes of Puerto Rican descent. He doesn't speak much Spanish since he was adopted by an American family but he is learning. He is also gay so he's the best person to give you love advice and fashion advice.

I walked to the guy and said “ Thank you”

“Nah, it’s okay I’ve been doing this forever. My younger sister fights a lot with her twin.” He pointed at the two kids talking to Jake. The girl had green hair, and the boy had glasses and brown hair. Then it hit me that it was Sam and Ethan Woods. The most popular and the loser in my school.

I looked at the boy standing in front of me and realized it was Liam Woods, the most legendary student that ever walked Mystic Middle School.
Legend has it that he pulled every fire alarm at school at the same time. It was so bad that he got expelled.

Pretty sure he realized that I recognized who he was because he said “Is not as bad as it sounds. Most of those stories were lies anyways” he smiled scratching his head.

“Also if you are wondering, we are all going to the same place. Go be with your friends, kid” He assured me.

That means Ethan is also going. Why him? He bearly's come to school and when he does his nose under a book. He is the type of student that doesn’t come to school or when he does come all he does is skip classes. He used to be close to Mason Dodge, the school bully. I remember one time Mason was beating Emilio for being gay, Ethan didn’t help him. He was holding me back. It was thanks to the teacher that Emilio didn’t die that day.
Why would a prestigious school let in a bully?
