Chapter 1
I could see the waves coming up and down. One after the other, as I saw thunder strike the water. Making the whole ocean ripple. The clouds are as angry as a snowstorm. My dad is struggling. Just swaying up on top of the boat. Swinging his fishing rod. Back and forth. I held on to the rails of the boat. Hoping I did not die. I can’t die here. Neither can my dad. Of course, every time we did this, going out to the UK depths. I would be afraid that I might lose my life. My dad has guts. I give him that. I mean, you have got to give him credit for doing such a bold thing.
I then lost my grip on the rails. My head then slams into the back of the boat. I couldn’t feel the pain because of the pure fear I was in. I cried for aid.’HELP. But my dad could not hear a word I was saying. My voice just couldn’t carry that far in this storm. I tried reaching for my dad’s foot. My body then got pushed back by the waves. I kept trying to reach. Then all the sudden we see a gigantic wave. It started picking up speed. Then, as it came right up to us, it felt like a truck was about to plum it into our bodies.
Then a wave came atop of us. I could taste the salt in my mouth. My body was so cold. I went back and forth. I think I’m going to be sick. Then I puke in the water. Then the water turns a green colour. All the sudden I hear a thump. As I see my dad just laying there. His bald head was bleeding. ‘WHY?’ I said, as I started crying. Then I crumbled my head into his body. He was dead.
(2 days later)
I think back to the rock that hit his head. That sound gives me terrible memories. I lost my jacket on the powerful tide. It was blue, so it matched with the ocean. It is sad, because of that jacket my dad gave me. He was such a good, nice, sweet, genuine man, the best man. I will miss him, and this awesome gift that he gave me. Listen Dad, it’s okay that you fished like that. Despite all the intense fishing missions, you were always there for me, even when I was not there for you.
Right now, I am at school. I miss you even more somehow when I am here. I guess it could be because of my lack of friends. Some friends I lost because I blamed for stuff I did not do others, are just mean, idiotic friends. Ones that don’t trust me, I don’t recommend they are like drugs that have nasty side effects, that pain will consume so much of your life to the point of suicide. So, when I say don’t, don’t.
“Hey, come back to earth Fukusaka.” The teacher remarked, looking super annoyed. So I followed him, in a cowardice manner, in fear that I might get in trouble by just stepping one foot over line. Then I saw the door, and he opened it for me. I saw all the students in the room. They looked like they were all studying. “Today is study day, so go,” he says, pushing me into the classroom. In this class, I sit next to a boy and a girl. The boy’s name is Kay, the girl’s name is Sara, and she is gorgeous. She has the most beautiful hair, it covered a bit of her eyes, but it is still beautiful. I don’t love her or anything, but she is adorable.
“Hey, I like your new green jacket Fukusaka,” Kay remarks. “Thanks,” I replied. Then I put my head down, studying.
(6 hours later)
School is out. Guess what? I’m still sad. I don’t know how I get unsad. How do I mend this feeling into happiness? I am currently walking down the stairs of my school. The yellow school bus was the first thing I got on. Then, before I knew it, I was home. I looked at the front door and there was a newspaper that normally my dad would read, but it’s still as a possum on my doorstep. Then I thought about opening the door. I could also go down to the beach. That would be fun, I guess. I’m going inside. I ignore the newspaper. Then I get the remote and turn on the TV. There were just a bunch of boring movies on, nothing interesting. Until I saw it, a super deadly fishing show, PTSD started coming in waves. I my head started hurting, so I slammed the remote off button.
I breathed in. Then out. Then put my hand on the sofa, with no one reaching out. Just me, that’s how it is now. I walk out the door. It was slow and steady, my energy was so drained. I feel like I could faint, but I keep going, keep walking, standing tall. Even though I lost my biggest supporter, no one could replace him.
Then I saw the beach. The wind picked up, making little, tiny tornadoes. They were soft looking, though, soft enough to be in a painting. I had no shoes. I then took my shirt off so I could feel free. The shirt was in my back pocket. I looked up at the sky. It was cloudy, no sun in sight. The sky was only getting darker. I took a step. Step. Step. Step. Then BAM!
Whoops, I accidentally slammed into a girl. I hope she’s okay. “Hello,” she says, putting her hand out. “Are you okay?” “Yeah I’m fine.” “I have something for you.” She then shows it to me. I can’t believe it. I dive in to hug her. “Thank you, Sara.”
