Chapter
Beep beep beep beeeeeep!!! “Okay, okay I’m up, I’m up, you can calm your face!” I exclaim as I silence the obnoxious alarm on my phone. I’m just waiting for the day it makes me officially deaf and the silence of sleep is never broken. For now, though I must comply, showing my existence at 5:30 am is not an easy thing to do, at least not without help. I pull the thick gray bedspread surrounding me off my body and step into incredibly soft house shoes. It’s almost suspicious the amount of warmth they are giving. I peer down at them checking that Macy, my golden retriever, didn’t feel the need to be annoying last night and do something to them. It wouldn’t be the first time, but now that she is six and past the rebel days of being a puppy, it’s a rare moment for her to do such a thing. The shoes appear normal, not a spot of slobber or piece of fluff gone.
That makes me happy and I’m off to find my favorite, blue eyed, yellow beauty! Macy is sprawled across the couch fast asleep. I set myself down on the floor next to her to start slowly petting her back, careful to not scare her but still wake her up. She soon opens two big sapphire eyes and starts to get up. I could tell she dreads being up at this hour as much as me if not more, yet knows its importance. She brings herself up and off the couch to stretch her body before we leave. I head back into my room, changing at a record time into some exercise shorts and a comfy T. Macy’s leash is next and water for both of us.
