Humanity
War.
Since the beginning of mankind, it has always been lurking within our species.
The eons of human evolution,
invention, aspiration, and war.
Always War.
The oldest, most enduring of human practices.
We see ourselves as the only great civilization in existence in the universe.
But like all great civilizations, we are faced with a sudden and dire turn of events.
A threat to our primacy from within our own home. A threat that has always been lurking in the shadows of our very garden.
It would be understandable if we had come across a civilization far more ancient, dangerous and hostile than our own, quite like in the movies and video games, however that is not the case.
Mankind is it's own biggest enemy. I say this in the fear that, by the time we realise it; it will be too late to recover.
History begins its terrible repetition.
Man fighting man.
Like a virus, war is always lurking inside of us.
No matter how hard we try to suppress it,
it just fights harder to get out.
lt always consumes us.
Driven by fear, greed, corruption and an unquenchable thirst for power. We devour everything we touch.
We have a conceited notion that we are an unstoppable force but truth of the matter is, our species are scattered and turning against each other far more than we should have to. We are vulnerable.
If you think you live in peace, think again, for it is a fleeting peace. The end of past wars should have, but did not signal an end to all wars. It is a great irony, that the nature of war always reveals the true nature of those who fight.
Since the beginning of time, we always fought. War after war. It has always swarmed over the earth and no matter how hard we tried, there was no ending in sight.
The lust for power has always given us that desire to shed blood, to never underestimate our opponent and to always prevail no matter the cost.
So many lives sacrificed in past wars and unfortunately, more will follow in their footsteps.
The governments of today, their greed, corruption and their addiction to destruction will be what breaks our societies, our communities. It seems like nothing will ever be enough to satisfy the age-old instincts. Like nothing can separate us from our nature.
Old resentments, ancient squabbles will re emerge. History will once again begin its pathetic repetition.
We seek answers when we go to war, however, we are confronted with more questions. New questions.
The one truly unifying force for humans, the one thing that would possibly unite every member of our species would be the emergence of a common enemy. Until that happens, we will be our own demise and we will be too blind to see it.
