The Young Ones

(TW: Hit and Run, Blood)

“Emily, what’s happening?” a small blonde girl whimpers pathetically as a burning sensation pulses through her body. Trying to lessen the pain she curls up tightly. “This is wrong! It’s wrong.”

“Just hold on, Allie” another girl, brunette, murmurs and reaches out to take her friend’s hand. She is curled in on herself as well, her blood staining the ground beneath us. Allie clutches Emily’s hand tightly and holds her chest with my other hand. Allie’s own blood is spilling from the open wound in her chest, covering their joined hands.

It all happened so fast. One second they were haplessly walking home and the next they were knocked into a ditch on the side of the empty road.

“I-I-I don’t wanna die,” Allie stammers. “I don’t want you to die.”

“It’ll be okay, just hold onto my hand,” Emily whispers intently. Blood is seeping from the cut on her head. “Just keep breathing.”

“We’ll be fine, Allie, this may be a chaotic hellish situation but we’re superheroes, we can handle it,” Emily hypes up through panting breaths.

The streets around them are overrun, there doesn’t seem to be an end to the enemies rampaging, and they are just two girls with unpredictable powers trying to save as many people as they can.

“We’re not superheroes, Ems, we are just girls that got superpowers in a freak accident,” Allie huffs and heaves for air, thoroughly exhausted. “We cannot handle this.”

“It’ll be okay, just call for me when it gets too much,” Emily reassures and smiles at her friend. “Just keep breathing.”
