The Core-Lore

The Core-verse

Hi there! My name is Narog, and here I’ll go over the Lore of the Core-verse. I’ll start by briefly explaining what the Core-verse is.

The Core-verse is a universe of which I’ve named CORE. The Core-verse is a super-verse, containing all different kinds of superheroes, supervillains, super-hitmen, super-hitwomen, different super-wars, and all of that stuff.

Here, I’ll go over EVERYTHING within the verse, starting with:

:Core-verse backstory:

Everything started around 65 million years ago… When an enormous asteroid came soaring throughout space, heading straight for the Earth.

When it hit. It created what we today call the Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction event, killing all dinosaurs, along with at least 50% of all species then living on Earth.

But the asteroid didn’t just bring the Mass Extinction event, it also brought some form of, strange, powerful form of energy, made out of something we today have no clue off, and most likely won’t have from today until the end of time.

On hit, the asteroid released all of the energy into a tiny rock of the asteroid, which then shot itself straight into the earth’s crust, penetrating it, very violently heading downwards, destroying everything in its path. Once it reached the magma. The stone began slowly melting away, causing the energy to charge itself up, storing all of its energy closer to the center of the rock, desperately trying to cling onto it for a little more. It continued downward, where it about only 200m from the Earth’s Core, shot itself out, leaving nothing but a tiny pebble which quickly melted away.

It started slowing down, getting ever so slower, untill…

It got to the Core.

Once it touched the Cores crust, it penetrated itself into it, now resting at the center of the Earth’s Core.

After that ordeal, the energy was all powerless, it had used all of its power to penetrate the earth, and heading straight for its core, it had just found a new host and needed rest, so it began resting.

And it continued resting, until around 1700 a:c, when it awoke. The energy’s awakening shot a giant, expanding sphere of its energy out towards the surface. Where it got picked up by around 25% of the human race. The energy realised this, and saw that it could expand its grasp to more lifeforms living on it, which it proceeded to try.

But it failed. That specific wave of energy could only be produced during that awakening, those specific circumstances could maybe, possibly never be made again, which the energy realised and accepted. When the generations came and went, the energy realised that its grasp on the surface creatures it had inhabited, was growing weaker from generation to generation. Which led the energy to realise that it was still connected to those lifeforms there on the surface who possessed its energy, becoming like a signal for the energy to aim at.

it shot some of its energy back into those signals. Allowing the energy to be just as strong from generation to generation, keeping the amount of humans with the gene, within 25% of the world’s population, nothing more, nothing less.

Today, this energy within these people is referred to as a gene, the Core-gene.

:The Core-gene:

This gene is what makes thes superhumans in Core, well, superhumans. This Core-gene is what makes all of these individuals so insanely powerful, and even if the power they obtain is weak, the added benefits with just POSSESSING a Core-gene more then makes up for it.

There’s two types of Core-genes, which technically is the same Core-gene, but I’m going to refer to them as separate, since they do different things.

An unactivated Core-gene.

An activated Core-gene.

An unactivated Core-gene is weaker than an activated one, but a regular unactivated core-gene is nothing to scoff at. A Core-gene affects the person by just being there, unactivated or not. These are the following things that happen to a individual, once they’re born with their unactivated Core-gene (Every user’s Core-gene is always unactivated from birth, it can however activate from any point from birth onward).

Their Limiter ( a person’s Limiter is the Limit of one’s physical potential. A person can just train so far, and become so strong, before they just can’t get any stronger. Which this enhanced Limiter prevents them from doing, until this new Limiter is reached as to say) Is increased from one peak human condition human (phch) (phch = The peak of physical human potential, the strength of Batman for example) to three phch.

An improved healing factor, This healing factor can heal everything on the user’s body three times as fast as a regular human, and bullet wounds heal in about five minutes. The organs of a Core-user are also amazing at healing themselves by pushing out whatever is harming them, meaning bullets simply get squeezed out after about five minutes, and then they close up. organs also don’t do much, enough do, but it requires much more bullets for a Core-user then a regular human, this also counts for the brain since the brain is also an organ, meaning headshots, they don’t work, enough do, but just one, that simple stuns them for a bit. The most reliable way of killing a Core-user is to cut off the head, or completely crush one of their organs, preferably the brain or the hearth.

That’s the abilities every single Core-user gains at birth, Nothing more, nothing less. Although, most of these Core-users go their whole life without knowing they possess a Core-gene, since most of them are just regular people who just go to work, don’t get shot, go back home and consume media. The select few that use their powers don’t even know that they do, since they’re just standardized in this world as insane strongmen who can bench press 600kg, that’s normal in this world. And the few that do insane stuff with their bodies like skydiving and wingsuiting who do get hurt, are just standardized as “people with good genes who heal fast”. Whilst the even fewer number of people in crime fights with guns, just hide their insane healing factor from the rest of their respective gangs, since they just want to use them for themselves to commit more crime.

The select few THAT ARE AWARE of their Core-gene, are special force military officers, who have their own deviation with these supersoldiers, can you just imagine? invading a terrorist organisation? they know youre coming, and ambush you. They shoot you all in the head, they’re all happy and cheery that they can continue their life off terrorism, and just as they walk away, all of you. Stand. Back. Up.

Thats so fucking cool man.

Anyway.

So these as I said are the abilities every Core-user is born with. But as I also previously said, these are only the abilities of an unactivated Core-user… The activated ones have the same abilities, but just way way more powerful… along with a few added abilities.

To start off with. How does one’s Core-gene activate?

Well it activates if the user is experiencing some form of extremely intense emotion, I mean the type of emotion where the emotion physically affects you in that moment. Whether it be fear, love, anger, sorrow, happiness, sadness, hyped-ness, dissgust-ness, it could be any emotion. It just has to be so strong that it activates their Gene.

For example,

Mass (A hero I’ve made) - Finds out a person he preiously knew, along with a few other people he didnt know, together raped and killed his sister. Intense anger and bloodlust activated his Core-gene.

Whale God (Another hero) - His Submarine got stuck under a bunch of rocks, who then broke the windows, allowing water to pour into the vessel. Intense fear and regret activated his Core-gene

Mrs. Big (A villain this time) - Got abused by her mother for the last time, and all of her bottled-up emotions poured out. Intense sorrow, confusion, and anger activated her Core-gene.

It’s these types of things that activate Core-genes, and sometimes these events don’t even work since a Core-gene only has a 50% chance of activating if the user is experiencing the right amount of emotions in that moment.

This fact makes it so that only 10% of all Core-users have their Core-gene activated, and now that I have gone over how a Core-gene is activated, let’s go over how an activated Core-gene compares to an unactivated one. The following things happen to a user, once their Core-gene is activated.

The Limiter gets increased from three phch, to somewhere between five to ten phch. Which amount of Limiter they gain however, is completely random. Although, the odds of scoring a higher number increases, if the user pushed their previous Limiter to the max of its capabilities.

The same healing factor, although their durability increases as well. Their bones can take between five and ten times as much damage as a regular human’s bones, and their skin is way way tougher, bullets still pierce them, but they go way way less deep then they did before, allowing them to be pushed out even quicker since they aren’t as deep within the organs.

They gain an Aura, which I’ll go over later since it’s a pretty specific thing.

they gain either a singular power. Or a set of powers. These powers are referred to as Core-powers, which I’ll go over now.

:Core-powers:

Core-powers are the powers a Core-user gains once their Core-gene is activated. Since only 25% of the world’s population possess a Core-gene, with only 10% out of those 25% possessing an activated Core-gene. Makes it so that only 10% OUT OF THOSE 10%, possesses a actually “useful” power.

A Core-user only gains one power once their Core-gene is activated, but there is a slim chance that they gain a set of powers. A set of powers can either be multiples of the same category of powers, or different powers from different categories. These powers can be used seperately, but are more powerful when used at the same time. For example, my villain Cody White, who possesses the power to turn into a Yeti, and he also possesses ice powers. Cody can use these powers separately, but his ice powers are only at their peak, whilst in his Yeti form.

All of these statistics make truly powerful Core-users very rare, which is why the ones who are, choose to hide it, with the ones that dont, being immediately captured and silenced by the world’s different governments (If they’re not fit to use their crazy powers as to say).

Only a select few is allowed to use their Core-powers for any significant use, which is the ones that work under the CGA (name work in progress), which stands for Core-gene agency (It sounds a little dumb in my head, so I’m open for sudgestions), the CGA has a multitude of different locations around the world, whomst all have the soul purpose of protecting mankind, from all of the different Core-users who use their powers for evil, (as werll as other threats if neccesary).

What powers these different Core-users possess however, I’ll get to now. The different powers are divided into these five sections, which I’ll go over separately

Temporary-power

Temporary powers are together with Out-of-body powers, the most common type of powers that occur when a Core-gene is activated. They’re usually quite simple, although they can in some cases become absolutely crazy (If the Core-user is lucky enough).

What a Temporary-power does, is that it changes the users body in some noticeable way. These changes can always be changed back, allowing these Core-users to still be able to hide their powers from the outside world.

Examples of Temporary-powers are: growing a third arm, growing a tail, growing to 100m tall, morphing already existing arms into a crab arm, changing into a werewolf, growing a sixth finger, hardening their skin, turning their body into sentient tar.

(PS, Cody whites yeti transformation power, is a temporary-power)

Out-of-body-power

Out-of-body-powers are as I previously mentioned, very common to occur when a Core-users powers are activated. What an Out-of-body-power does, is that it allows the user to use some form of supernatural force, outside of their bodies, OR produce some form of supernatural thing from their bodies, For example, fire manipulation, Telekinesis, water manipulation, earth manipulation, air manipulation, metal manipulation, conjuring monsters, controlling animals, laser eyes, acid vomit, and so on and so forth.

Out-of-body-powers do not affect their users appearance, and can simply not be used in order to hide them.

What both temporary-powers, and Out-of-body-powers have in common (as well as being the most common types of powers), is that they both work like a muscle. They both can’t be used forever and will eventually strain or even permanently damage the user if pushed too far. Meaning it just feels like you’re working out while these powers are active. This also means that they can be used for longer, and become more powerful, if used for longer periods of time then what’s comfortable.

For Out-of-body-power users, their power grows stronger, more powerful, and can be used for longer. And for Temporary-power users, their form can stay out for longer, and become stronger and more powerful as well.

Examples of Out-of-body-powers are: fire manipulation, breathing fire, Telekinesis, water manipulation, earth manipulation, air manipulation, metal manipulation, conjuring monsters, controlling animals, laser eyes, acid vomit, spitting bullets, Controlling souls, manipulating technology.

(PS again, Cody whites ice powers are also Out-of-body-powers)

Object-power

An object-power only occurs under specific circumstances, and is impossible to gain in a set of powers. The circumstances are that the user needs to hold an object with at the very least, some levels of emotional significance (the more emotional significance the object has, the more likely it is that the power is going to be stronger than an object with less emotional significance), and when the Core-gene is activated, almost all of the users Core-gene, gets shot into the object, only leaving some levels of it behind, allowing the Core-user to still possess the properties of a Core-user with a activated Core-gene.

Once most of the user’s Core-gene has entered the object, the object itself gains powers, making the object become a Core-object (a Core-gene infused object), these powers are really diverse and can be practically anything, and the Core-object can as well as the Core-user gain a set of powers, which just as a Core-user with a set of powers, is very rare.

The Core-objects power/s can be turned on and off by the Core-user at will, as long as the object is within line of sight from the user. Only the Core-user can use the power of the Core-object , although anyone can hold the weapon, as well as take the weapon away from the user. The object can be literally anything of any size. A building, a doll, a sword, a gun, a broomstick, are all things that could become a Core-object.

The Core-object can also have the power to change the User in some way, although if the Core-object has this power, it can only be activated if the user is in some way, touching the object, OR touching something, that is touching the object. The user can turn the power the Core-object gives them on and off at will.

Examples of Object-powers are: Lightning powers, indestructibility, being on fire, shooting fire, controlling fire, being able to fly, raising the dead, turning into a living monster, becoming a sentient being, capturing souls, growing/shrinking to certain heights, control other people’s minds.

Examples of powers the Core-object can give the user once touched: increased strength, increased speed, turning into something with a different form/size then a human, the force (like in Star wars), Fire manipulation, ice manipulation, really loud scream, super sight, X-ray vision.

Passive-power

Passive-powers are the simplest form of Core-powers, and are rarer than Out-of-body-powers and Temporary-powers, but only a little rarer. What a Passive-power does, is that it gives the users already existing properties, some form of enhancement or ability that isn’t noticeable on their appearance. These abilities can never be turned off and are always active for the user, they can however be maintained if the ability is physical, like super strength for example, the user can (if trained enough) just use less of their strength to still fit into society without much effort.

A Passive-power is however much harder to maintain if it’s supernatural. For example X-ray vision or flight, these can’t be maintained in the same way like superstrength since they will at least always be a little active. A user with X-ray vision will always have to see through at least one layer of a thing, for example the outer clothes of everyone they meet. And a user with flight will have to at least hover if they aren’t actively using their power, meaning for a flight user, the only way to fit into society is flying downwards into the ground.

Luckily, a passive power doesn’t work like a muscle, meaning this isn’t that difficult to do, the only difficult thing is to constantly focus on flying downwards, which varying from user to user, can be very hard to do.

Examples of Passive-powers are: Super strength, super speed, X-ray vision, flight, super scream, super hearing, super smelling, super reflexes, super stretchability.

Monster-power

Monster-powers are the most rare kind of powers, only accruing to about 0.001% out of all Core-users. It’s also the most specific category of power. If a Core-user is unlucky (or lucky depending on who you ask) enough to gain a Monster-power, the following things will happen to the user’s properties.

1. Some very noticeable difference, any size or form, could be super specific or not, happens to the user’s body.

2. The user doesn’t require any strength or concentration to maintain the form, since it from there on out, is their permanent physical appearance.

3. The user usually gains a set of powers, and if not, the one power that the user gains is super strong.

4. All of the user’s senses are greatly heightened.

And that’s all the changes specific to a Monster-power.

Examples of a monster power: Gaining the appearance and abilities of cthulhu, becoming a giant skeleton, becoming a were whale, becoming a sentient planet, becoming a gremling, becoming a sentient island.

Aura

Now, I’ll get into what an Aura is.

As previously mentioned, this is a thing every Core-user gains once their Core-gene is activated.

An Aura is summarised, “The presence of your character, turned into a weapon”

An Aura is the energy within you that can be felt by others. Once activated, it gives you the ability to control whether or not other people can feel that energy inside of you, where you previously couldn’t do that since the energy was simply locked away inside of you, for no one to notice (when your Core-gene was unactivated).

You can use your Aura against a group of people so everyone can feel it, or you can use it against a specific person. On a crowd or on a single person doesn’t affect the output, if done on lesser people doesn’t make the presence of your energy any stronger, it’s just felt by lesser people. It’s felt just as much on everyone as it is on someone specific.

Now, what happens when you choose to let someone sense your Aura? Well, it 100% depends on how strong your Aura is, and how strong it is, depends on the strength of your own character. If you’re unsure of yourself, unsure of what your goal is, easily affected by others, if you easily buckle under pressure, easily back down. Your Aura is going to be weak, if everything I said is the opposite for you, your Aura is going to be strong.

A weak Aura does pretty much nothing, although it isn’t useless. So I’ll just get to when a weaker Aura is useful when that information becomes important, for now, what does a strong Aura do?

Well, It sets fear into people. When you activate it on somebody, it feels for them, like you grew some cm. It feels like you’re looking down upon them, like they themselves, become weaker than you. This of course affects confrontations since people are way less likely to fight you or even win, if they in their minds believe you’re more of a threat then you really are.

And if your Aura is strong enough, you can even physically affect them. Suddenly, it can feel like death is standing right infront of them, that if they even look at you, they will die where they stand.

If you go even further, it can cause them to fall to their knees, and vomit out of fear. They can do whatever you want them to do, they don’t care when it feels like Satan himself is commanding them to do something.

And that’s basically what an Aura is. Now to some rules.

You can only affect people with your Aura, if their Aura is weaker than your own. This also applies to people who don’t even possess an Aura, yes, they can’t affect you or anything since they don’t have one, but if their character is stronger than your own, you can’t trick their minds even if you wanted to. Now I’ll get over how a weak Aura still has some use. If your Aura is weaker than your opponents, your Aura switches from a weapon, into a shield. Now your aura is just pushing back theirs. Causing their effect on you to be way way less effective.

Different Core-users utilize their Auras in different ways. Heroes usually use them to clear areas of civilians, so they can go in and take care of the bad guys. Villains do this as well in order to get for example a bank, all to themselves.

Some powers Core-users gain can even directly affect their Aura. Like for example my villain Skinhead. His power is named “Overpower”, and what it does is that it takes his already insanely strong Aura, and 10x that shit. Now, he may look like a 175cm tall, skinny guy. But he can permanently break people’s minds all around him, he can walk into lets say a ball, filled with over 1000 people, and cause them all to instantly fall to the ground, screaming out of fear for their own lives, because it feels like death is a few meters away. This insane type of Aura he possesses isn’t capable of being understood by humans, if he uses it at full potential, he can cause people to kill themselves, now that they know something that horrifying exists.

And that’s everything you need to know about how the power-system of Core works :D.

Core-genes within the verse

Core-genes are generally unnoticed by society. As I previously said, most people don’t even know that they have a Core-gene, with the few that do, either working for the government, or just hiding it from everyone.

Some Core-users get experimented on, sometimes even as young as when they’re born. Causing disasters in different locations like with Crew (a villain group of mine) who were experimented on as children, causing them to one day snap and all turn into giant stuffed animal monsters, who ate every scientist in that facility, and then escaping into the world.

Women with Core-genes in the black market, is raped and sold in order to get supersoldier-bodyguards for different crime bosses.

Other than that pretty messed up stuff, people have just accepted that certain superheroes exist, and that they probably just got them from a radioactive spider or something, the average person has no idea how a Core-gene works or what they even are.

Random changes

Everyone in the world now uses Meters and Grams as a form of measurement. Stinky feet and pounds are now lost, forever.

Corona never happened.

That should be pretty much it, thanks for reading about the lore of the Core-verse :D.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
