The Invitation

Ding!! Dong!!

“Someone at the door?”

Ding!! Dong!!

The doorbell rang once more leaving aunt voila no other option but to answer the door.

Aunt voila mumbles as she briskly walks towards the door, revealing the figure behind the door.

“Good evening senorita, invitation letter from the royals for a miss catheline” the mailman greeted with a soft smile.

“Thank you, would you like to have a glass of water before you leave?

“That’s so generous of you, but I will have to decline your offer”

the mailman said refusing the water politely.

“Okay, please extend my heartfelt gratitude to the royals aunt voila added before bidding her goodbye and closing the door behind her.

“Who was it at the door?” I questioned sipping my coffee whilst reading the magazine.

“The mailman.”

“Mail already today is just the first,” I said with a puzzled look.

“It is an invitation from the royals.

“How strange!” I protested

Peep! Peep!

“Your ride is here” aunt voila said looking behind the curtains

“If you need anything please do not hesitate to call my secretary,” I said before leaving for work.

“Okay!” aunt voila said closing the door.

“Good Morning where too?” Kurt greeted before gesturing to the door.

“The Office Please,” I said opening the invitation letter.

“The wine expo is in the next two days what short notice and it’s held in Peru,” I said leaning my head against the back of the car.

“Are you going to the expo?“Kurt questioned out of curiosity.

“It’s too late I have so much work to do, business meetings to schedule, and eager clients to attend too! I stated bluntly

“I’m pretty sure they will understand” Kurt reassured me

“To be very honest, I think it’s good exposure for my business.”

I said putting my hand on my chin

“For a minute I thought you were going, “Kurt said glancing at me through his mirror.

“Kurt I am a very busy woman”

“Understood”

The remaining of the ride to the office was quiet.

The sound of the elevator door opening revealing my office on the top floor brought me back to reality.

“Good Morning slone you have two meetings with the Stanford brothers one at 9:30 and the other at 12:00 noon, I emailed you the details and the FAQs and schedule lunch with one of Elliot’s representatives.

“My day hasn’t started matt, when will I have a break,I have an invitation to the expo seems like I will have to cancel after all.

“Did I hear right?! Matt said jumping out from behind his desk and startling me.

“You got invited to the most elegant event and you’re passing up the opportunity. Matt screamed with excitement.

Matt, I’m not in the mood for your childish behavior.

“I’m not winning but this is a good business opportunity for you. You can meet billionaires and maybe suggest some of your designs and make an offer. Matt said sounding confident.

I mean you do have a good point, this can be a business venture for us.

“And while you are at it you may find someone you’re attracted to or a change” he added with a naughty smile

“Matt goodbye,” I said dropping in my office chair

“I’m just making a suggestion,” he said snuggling his shoulder

“Schedule an agent to represent me at the lunch with eliots representative, I have a lunch date at one.

“Lunch date? With who?” Matt asked being all nosy all of a sudden,

“Get back to work matt, I have a very busy day”

“Okay! I’m on it, matt said tapping into his iPad.

It’s almost time for my meeting with one of the Stanford bother.

With little time to spare, I opened my email checked for recent updates, and read through matts FAQs.

my phone buzzed beside me, alerting me that I have a new message from an unknown number which states.

“Can’t wait to see you.” I was caught off guard because the last time I checked I wasn’t dating or was I seeing anyone must be a scammer I mumbled to myself.

The meeting with the brothers was quite successful we discussed the interior and exterior designs needed along with suitable furniture to bring out the finishing look, I instructed matt to draft the estimate, and since we had to work with a specific budget, they signed the agreement without hesitation a team was assigned to start right away.

I took a short break and headed to the elevator where I drove my car to the restaurant to have lunch.

Cynthia was late as usual, Cynthia was a busy individual after all she’s my business partner, and she was in charge of marketing and shipping the materials. I signaled for the waitress as she approach me with a menu card and a brief smile.

“Good day, I hope you’re enjoying the view?” she said with a brief smile

“I am,” I added “can I please have a shot of margarita while I wait”

“Sure,” she said placing the menu card on the wooden table ” I will be right back”

“I scanned the restaurant as I saw a few familiar faces, and a gentleman sparing me a small smile

“Creepy,” I said picking up the menu card

“What’s creepy?” A familiar voice said starting me

“Maybe you should notify a girl before turning all ninja on me I said jokingly”

“And miss that daring look on your face never,” Cynthia said sliding into the chair opposite me.

“I wasn’t sure what you wanted so I just order a margarita,” I said scanning the room for the waitress.

The waitress came up to our table and placed the margarita on the table,

“Ready to order?” the waitress said looking uneasy

“I’ll have a serving of prawns and a glass of water”

“Same” Cynthia said dismissing the waitress.

“So have you decided what you will be wearing to the wine expo,” Cynthia said clasping her hands together in excitement.

“I’m not going to the wine expo,” I said boldly.

“Why not,” Cynthia said with pure sadness

“Because_”

“Because nothing you don’t get this type of opportunity twice.”

“I’m not going and that’s final,” I said dismissing the topic.

“Okay I promise I’m not going to mention this topic ever again but please Think about it this way as your best friend and business partner from a business personal perspective this is a great opportunity to help boost your career and invite possible clients.”

“Okay I will think about it,” I said throwing my hands up in surrender

“Great, that’s the answer I’m looking for are you finished with your lunch? She said without wasting any time

“I didn’t agree to go,” I said with raised brows

“I know but I can work around that,” with that being said Cynthia pulled out her cell phone and dialed Matt’s number I do know what she said to him but she nodded in agreement.

“Come on, we need to get you a need new dress” Cynthia said leaving her chair.

“Cynthia sit,” I ordered I have a dress I ordered 2 months ago”

“Two months ago, she said being sarcastic “Come on it’s an Expo you plan on wearing a dress you ordered 2 months ago for christ’s sake.

“Okay fine,” I protested “We will go down to the shop after work, for now, I need to get back in my office”

We bid goodbye paid for lunch and went our separate way.

“See you at five,” she said skyping down the pavement like a little child.

A Few hours later.

“How about this,” I said smoothing out the fabric of the dress, as I made my way to the display area.

“Not suitable,” she said as she continue to look at her nails without sparing me a glance.

“Cynthia this is the fifteenth dress I’ve tried on and neither of them you found fit for the wine expo maybe this was a mistake I said as I took a chair. I was tired and stressed maybe this was a sign to not go!

“Stop winning, I think I have the perfect dress in mind,” she said upon realizing something.

“Oh thank goodness” I signed impatiently

“Bienvenido al Aeropuerto international de Peru” The pilot announced as the passengers made their way off the plane and into the lobby of the airport. I retrieve my suitcase from the luggage carousel and I saw two men dressed in black suits holding name tags with my name written all over them. I walked over to the two men and greeted them with a small smile. Peru was breathtakingly beautiful the staffs were friendly and courteous to me.

The two men lead me to the driver of the limousine and placed my luggage into the truck and escorted me to the ride where I retire to the hotel. Buzz Buzz my phone signals me an incoming call.

“How was the flight ” Cynthia sound exists on the other line

“I think I’m jet log”

“Ugh! your such a baby slone, you need to go out more often she suggested.”

“You’re a bad influence”

“More reason for you to love me”

“You’re a hand full” I added “It’s quite late and I need my beauty sleep, see you on Thursday I said with a soft tone.”

My phone buzzed to notify me of a message.

It was a message from my assistant matt, he is such a good friend I said smiling awkwardly.

After Cynthia and I came to an agreement on the dress, matt booked me a flight and RSVP my invitation, aunt voila cooked dinner and I retired to bed, Cynthia came over the next morning and assisted me with my suitcase while I catch up with my clients and Prepare for my flight at 10.

The ride to my hotel was amazing I took out a few pictures of landmarks and waterfalls since I am a huge fan of waterfalls.

I arrived at the hotel and the Receptionist at the hotel was eager to assist me with a room, even though I booked last minute, the bell boy was so kind he offered to take my bad when get saw I was struggling to carry it.

He escorted me to my hotel room and I offer to tip him but he refused my kind gesture.

“Where I’m from we aren’t allowed to take charity”

“Okay,” I said as I put my money back into my purse.

I said goodbye as I closed the hotel suit.

The room consisted of 3 self-contained rooms, two huge bed tubs, a living room, a dining area, and a small refrigerator comprised of expensive liquor beside my bedside table, the interior design was classic yet simple, I’m going to enjoy my stay even though it’s just a few hours I added as I went out on the balcony and admire the city, before disappearing into my king sized bed.
