Chapter 1

Ashlynn

“That’s the bell, get going to 7th period” Mrs. Jera said. Everyone got up from their seats and rushed out the door. I waited for about a minute for everyone to get out and walked up to Mrs. Jera. “Yes Ashlynn?” She asked putting her book under the desk. “I was just wondering if you thought the Kingdom of Wyvern’s was real?” I asked. “Well between you and me, let's say sure. '' She laughed. I slowly nodded as I walked to the door. The hallway was full of people. Everyone was talking but over all of it I could hear my name being called. “ASHLYNN!” Emily yelled. I laughed and just walked into the flow of the people.

“Everyone take a seat” I heard someone saying as I walked into class. I looked at the teacher’s desk and there was a sub. He was older with short white hair. I sat in the first empty seat I could find. “I am Mr. Crow. I will be your substitute for Ms. Harold. We will start with reading chapters 20 and 21” The sub said. Everyone pulled their books from their bag. I opened my book and looked at it. Didn’t read it just looked. Finally my brain started to read. “As Ophelia hid from the guards, she held her locket tight” I read to myself.

The bell rang and you could hear the halls getting ready to be filled with kids, wanting to leave. “Alright you may go. Have a good rest of your day. See you tomorrow!” Mr. E said as we all shuffled out of his room. I walked out of the school, the ground was filled with snow. I started my walk home. “Ok, down Caroline ave, left at 120th, and left at 122nd” I thought. As I walked down Caroline ave, I heard someone behind me. “Ashlynn!” Ryan came up to me. Ryan was a bit taller then me with black hair, swooping to one side. “Yes Ryan?” I asked. “Did you get the notes from Jera’s?” He asked. “Nope” I rolled my eyes. “Dang it! I will go ask Gena” He groaned, running the other way. “Ashlynn!” Emily’s voice laughed from behind me. “Hey Em!” I greeted. She came up next me. “I heard you didn’t you didn’t get the notes. I have them” Emily offered. “I did, I just didn’t want to give them to him” I laughed. “Of course” She laughed.

As I fell asleep, my mind started to dance with ideas. These ideas kept me awake. I checked my phone. 10:30. I groaned and sat up. I slowly got up from my bed and creaked open my door. As I walked down the hall, the boards under my feet creaked. I walked down the small stairs and turned the corner. The kitchen was dark. I could see the marble countertops shining in the moonlight. I slowly opened the fridge and looked for something edible. I saw the leftover esquites from dinner. I grabbed the tupperware and pulled out a fork from the drawer. I sat at the table and started to eat.

As I got into bed, something was wrong. Like the world I was in, just disappeared. I looked at my phone. 1:30 pm? I went to my window and opened the curtains. The sun shined into my eyes. “AH!” I backed up into my bed. I ran out of my room and no one was in the hall. No doors. Just mine. “Um, mom?” I asked the hall. I ran out the door and my house was in a forest. It was odd. I turned around and nothing. Dust floated into the air. My house just disappeared! I stood there in shock. When the shock broke, I started wandering around.

Some time had passed by of just wandering. As I pasted some more trees, I saw something. A house? The house was made out of bright red bricks. The wooden roof slid down the side of the house, and pointed at the top. A huge circle window on the face of the house. The rest of the windows were small and had a crisscross pattern. The door had vines carved into it. I could see letters also carved into the door. I slowly approached the house to read the letters. Natia’s House. Natia, that was a pretty name. The door slowly creaked up. I jumped away then looked in. I could see a staircase and a hallway. I would guess all the curtains were shut because it was completely dark except for a brightly lit candle. I slowly walked in the house. SLAM! The door shut behind me. I pulled on the cold doorknob. “FLICK!” A woman's voice screamed.

“Hello” A woman appeared in front of me.

“AHH!” I screamed, falling backwards.

“Geez calm down!” She laughed, helping me up.

As I got to my feet, a ball of light hovered in front of me. I could now see the women. She had short, wavy dark purple hair, with two buns on the top of her head. Her skin was a bit darker than mine. She had a moon necklace. She wore a long black dress with small white moons on the bottom. She had a white mess shall. She was taller than me but she was wearing black heels.

“Who are you?” She asked.

“Ashlynn, who are you?” I asked.

“Who am I? Really! You don’t know me! I’m Natia!” She angrily said.

“Hello Natia, where am I?” I asked again.

“The Kingdom of Wyvern’s, idiot!” Natia laughed.

“Wait, you’re Natia, the most powerful witch in the Kingdom of Wyverns?” Mrs. Jera told us she was the most powerful witch and was very dangerous.

“The one and only!” Natia laughed.

“Where is Flick and Wave?” I asked.

“FLICK! WAVE!” Natia yelled. A little fire and water monster showed up next to Natia. “Don’t touch them, you will burn yourself” Natia said, petting one on the head.

“Can you help me get back to the real world? I know this is a dream… and I need to wake up” I asked.

“Probably, come in!” Natia grabbed my arm and pulled me down the hallway. She pulled me into a dark room. A light turned on and I could see around me. A large round table sat in the middle of the room. 4 chairs were placed around the table. A doorway was on the right wall, into a kitchen.

“Sit down! Wave will bring us some tea! What kind do you like?” Natia asked.

“Umm…green?” I questioned.

“Alright” Natia walked into the doorway. I sat in silence until the water monster (or Wave) came up to me with a tea cup and teapot. He placed them on the table and walked away. I picked up the tea pot and slowly poured the tea into the cup. I took a deep breath and looked at the cup. “Please, please work” I begged to myself.

“ALRIGHT!” Natia yelled coming into the room. She was holding a huge leather-bound book.

“What did you find?” I asked, standing up.

“So, I found my old spell book so I can get you a door back home” She said, throwing the book on the table.

“So how do you do the spell?” I asked.

Natia filled through the book. She stopped on a page and started to read it out loud, as she was making a circle with her finger. “Open a door to the land living in the real life. Too exit the dream life!” Natia yelled. A spark shot out of Natia’s finger and onto the wall. A door slowly came into the world.

“Whoa.”

I slowly walked up the door.

“There you go kid” Natia said, slowly nodding.

“Thank you” I smiled as I touched the doorknob. As I turned it, something in me stopped. My hand pushed the door open. And nothing, just a wall.

“Natia, what happened?” I asked, looking to her.

“I don’t know!” Natia come over to me and pushed me to the floor.

“HEY!” I yelled, sitting up. She stood her head in the door.

“What the heck! Something must be wrong! Ashlynn right? Can you stay for another night, so I can get the spell?” Natia asked.

“NO! I NEED TO GO HOME NOW!” I yelled.

“Kid, if its a verbal spell, I can only do it once” Natia said.

“I don’t have all this time!” I cried.

“You will have too” Natia said, walking back into the kitchen. I sighed. “Well, I have an extra room in the attic” Natia popped her head back in.

“Here is your room, just make sure you don’t get a splinter!” Natia laughed while opening the door. The room was pretty dusty. There was a small bed and a ledge next to the huge window, and a few boxes.

“It’s good enough for a stay, do you have any books?” I asked.

“Those boxes” Natia pointed, closing the door. I walked over to the boxes and opened them. The dust flew up and into my eyes. I saw all the different colors of book spines. Each one had gold lettering on it. Lord of the flies, Treasure Island, Oliver Twist.

“HELLO ASHLYNN!” Natia yelled, throwing the door open.

“AH!” I screamed falling of the bed.

“Sorry, I need to go to town for a bit, want to come?“ Natia asked.

“Sure!” I jumped off the floor and followed Natia.

“FLICK! BAG!” Natia yelled. Flick showed up behind her with a leather bag.

“Thank you! Lets go”
