Chapter 1

Coming off a 5 hour train ride where all we could do is stand due to the amount of people pack in like sardienes in a small train cart. The first thing I noticed while I was being escorted to this place I later found out was called Auschwitz, was the smell of smoke and a black haze in the air. My father Holger was standing right beside me while I was being pushed into a line to get into the camp, My Mother Helga was holding my baby sister Ursula in her arms while they walked toward the gate's of hell. We all knew coming off that train that this could be our final resting place as a family. As we got up to the gate and stood in the entrance we were stopped in our tracks by a guard who had yelled "Boy, you are to work in the labor camps" He had that look in his eye I can only describe as the devil piercing down upon me. As for my father he was sent to the opposite way from me. As I walked towards my new home I saw a Father holding his little boy tight and not letting go even though the guards are yelling at him to drop the boy and come with them, then there was a Boom! The yelling and crying had stopped, instead of crying there was laughing from the guards who had shot the man and the little boy. Seeing the barracks for the first time made me sick to my stomach, There were bunks that were only made from wood, there were no mattresse's instead there were straw clumps for us to sleep on. I remember a man saying out loud " Your treating us like we are cattle". I knew right then and there this was going to be pure hell.
