Preface

Dashing through the forest with one thought on my mind, How did I ever get so lucky. Playfully nipping at my bestfriend’s, Asyia’s paws. I turn running away with my fur fighting against the wind at the speed I’m advancing. I swerve around taking Asyia head on, but right as she lunges playfully I dodge under her sprinting off once again. I swivel my head around as I’m sprinting through the forest towards the lake, her still right on my tail.

I get up to the lake laying down quickly so she trips over my body. I watch her falling flat on her snout with a wolfish smirk. Lovely for you to join me, Asyia, I mindlink her.

Lovely of you to help me up, Asyia replies snarkily as she rolls her eyes.

You’re very welcome, I reply amusingly.

She lazily moves over closer to me playfully nudging me with her head before plopping down to the space next to me. We lay down watching fishes swim around in the small lake enjoying each other’s presence. My ears perk up when leaves move and a stick snaps. Artemis, my wolf, suddenly alert with the new noise coming from the silent forest. My head slowly rises from my paws, eyes darting around alert for any movement.

I carefully stand over Asyia who’s unaware of my uneasiness until after I’m standing over her protectively. She too looks around cautiously. Nobody saw the wolf lunging towards my back until it was too late. I go flying with the rogue on top of me, a few feet away from Asyia. I yelp helplessly as I try to get the rogue off of me.

Asyia and I had only started training yesterday. We didn’t know how to fight. Moreover, we had also recently shifted for the first time. Immediately Asyia jumps from her laying spot to attack the rogue on top of me. As I stand we’re instantly surrounded by more rogues. They attack and I lose sight of Asyia in the ambush of multiple rogue wolves.

Before another thought could cross my mind I felt a slight pinch in my neck, pain filling my body instantly with the known poisonous substance called, wolfsbane. Looking for the source of where the wolfsbane and needle came from I look around to spot a man. One of the men shifted back to human form holding a now empty syringe. Panic fills me, losing consciousness quicker than humanly possible with the poison mixed with chloroform I could tell by the way I felt and my heightened smell. I tried keeping my eyes open for as long as I could. I can feel myself getting picked up, looking down I can see myself bleeding including the wounds scattered along my body that are shown on my now human form.

I close my eyes as I couldn’t keep them open any longer even with protest.
