Chapter 1
What was that? I peaked my head out of the water to see a bright colorful flash in the sky. It was of many colors, red blue and white. I dipped back under and watched it happen over and over again. Humans are very weird, they have feet and they walk.
I heard a loud bang as the color popped again in the sky. I rolled over onto my back and went back down, it was getting late and I needed to get home. As I went swimming down, three merpeople. Whom I have never seen before swam past me. I nodded my head and went on my way.
When i returned home, I told my sister Adella what I had seen. She looked at me in disapproval. "You know you are not allowed to be up there."
"Does it really look like I care?" I said flipping around, "Mom and Dad won't care, I'm being careful."
"Sure you are." Adella said. She turned away from me and swam under her kelp, that led to her room.
I swam away and went to my room wanting to be alone, I was going to go up to the surface whether my parents allowed it or not.
By the way, my name is Charlotte Everfrost. I am a mermaid and my Mom and Dad own the mertown :).
I am really not aloud to leave and go to the sdurace but you already know me I do it anyway.
My room is super cool. At least in my opinion. Wen you first step in the thing that you see is a bed completely made of coral an shiny shells. I have a huge light on my wall with pictures with me and my friends. I have a desk in the corner with a window that overlooks the whole city. I have a huge closet with crowns and jewelry If you don't already know, mermaid's don't have to change clothes.
*knock knock* “Who is it?” I called turning around.
“Me hun.” My mom called from outside the door.
“Oh okay, come on in.” I said sitting on my bed.
“Where did you go yesterday?” She asked eyeing me suspiciously.
“I uh..” I said trying not to get in trouble, “I went to the city and did a large swim.”
“No you didn’t." Mom said, "I was in the city all day and i did not see you once."
"FINE, I went to the surface because the humans were doing something and I wanted to see it." I said turning my back towards Mom.
"I'm very disappointed in you Char." Mom stared at the wall behind me. She turned to leave.
"WAIT, PLEASE don't tell Dad." I said begging her.
"I'm not making any promises." Mom said to me and she left leaving a trail if bubbles behind her.
Ugh, whatever, i didn't care anyway.
A couple hours later I went to the diner. I headed down and passed nobody. I walked into the diner and sat down in the corner. I got the menu and looked for my favorite thing to order. It wasn’t on their, so i had to get something new.
Mom and Dad swam into the diner with someone inbetween them. Who is that?
“Hey.” I swam over to Mom and Dad. “Who is this?”
“Hey hun, this is Catherine. She is your sister.” Mom said.
“Wait what?” I was so confused, “I already have a sister.”
I dragged Mom away from Dad and Catherine, “Who is she and why are you saying that she is my sister?!” I was practically yelling now.
“Don’t give me that attitude young lady.” Mom warned. “She is your adoptive sister.”
“WHY DID YOU ADOPTIVE ANOTHER GIRL WHEN YOU ALREAY HAVE 2!?” I yelled. That caused us to get looks from other people.
“Don't raise your voice at me young lady.” Mom said. “We adopted her because she was alone and one of the only ones left in the orphanage.
“Okay, whatever, but why now? You have so much going on and you decide to get a girl?” I said.
“Yep we know, and we are okay with it." Mom said smiling, "Be nice to her and make her feel welcome please."
"Fine, whatever." I walked over to the table and sat down, now I had to get a bigger table because instead of 4 we have 5.
I grabbed the menus and slid into the table next to us, which had 6 chairs, perfect. Mom and Dad came to sit and Catherine came along with them.
She looked at Mom, "Can I sit here?" She pointed to the seat next to me.
"Yes you can, of course you can." Mom said eyeing me and winking. Yea like that would do anything.
I scooted over so she can sit and scooted more when she got really close to me. From across the diner, Adella waved to me. I got up and Mom put a hand on my shoulder, "Welcome her please." she whispered.
I shrugged her hand aside and went to tell Adella. "Adella." I hissed.
"What." She said.
"We have a new sister, her name is Catherine." I said hoping she would be just as confused as me.
"Oh yeah I know." Adella said, "I have already met her."
"WHAT?!" I shouted, then I cringed, I shouldn't have done that.
I turned and walked away from Adella, I really did not want to be here right now.
"Mom I'm going back to my room, I have some homework to catch up on."
"Honey!! We are eating dinner tonight sit down." Mom said.
"No, i need to finish this homework." I said grabbing my bag.
Mom grabbed the edge of my fin, "Sit Down."
I just swam away, I really did have some homework that I needed to do. On the way back to my room all I did was think about how everyone in my family new about Catherine. What else had they not told me?
