THE VALENTINE'S DATE

She was blindfolded. Groping the left hand of the man in front of her. From the nails to the fingers, to the face of his palm, the sensible touch grows up to his arms, up to the elbows, and the final touch of the shoulder.

“I got it! This is my husband!” As she fondly raises his left arm.

It was a disappointment when she took off her blindfold. She was wrong. She didn’t win the game.

“I told you, honey, we are the perfect pair ever!” She turned to Helen with a silly smile.

Helen can’t make her joy and sadness meet.

“And the winner is, Mr. and Mrs. Fernandez!” The emcee gracefully announced.

They returned to their seats. Robert was not saying a word. They continued on their cocktails. He got a shot of brandy. Picked up some pieces of nachos with a sweet and sour dip.

“Robert, I’m sorry...I...I...”

“You even don’t know the texture of your husband’s arms!” Robert said sarcastically.

She got a possessive husband, fickle-minded, and self-centered. She knows he’ll make this a big deal. But she loves him, all by her heart.

“Whom do you know? Somebody else’s arms?”

“Robert, please don’t shame me here.”

“Shame you? You shamed me!” Robert’s voice grows louder.

“I just made a mistake. It’s just a game!”

He grabbed his coat and got up to leave.

“Where are you going?”

“Helen, is there any problem? Are you alright?” Julie, the host of the party, asked.

“I’m so sorry Julie, we have to leave. Enjoy the party.”

She was following her husband outside towards their car. Before she opened the door, she took a last look at the signage outside, My Valentine’s Date. She hopped in.

The car rolled left and right with the wheels squeaking.

“Robert, please slow down. We might get into trouble.”

He’s a little bit drunk. He doesn’t say anything and just goes on with his reckless driving.

They got home safe, although Helen felt so nervous and scared. She looked up at their wedding picture. She felt so sad for not finishing the Valentine’s Party.

Robert went straight to their bedroom and slammed the door. All Helen could do was sigh.

She followed inside, took a shower, and laid herself next to her husband. She hugs him while his back faces her.

“Honey. It was our Valentine’s date, right? Let’s not waste the night.”

Robert snores and pretends to be asleep.
