Episode 1

It’s a beautiful morning. Up and getting ready for work. I’m a dental assistant not too far from where I live. I love living in the city. Grew up on a farm with three brothers and two sisters. Two of the brothers have now taken over the farm since my parents have gotten older and aren’t able to take care of it like they once did. My mother always wanted us girls to stay close, I’m only a few hours away, but I wanted something different than the farm life. I do miss being close to family sometimes and the fun we would have on the farm, but I’m happier in the city, nobody in my family understands why.

My apartment is in a great building about twenty-eight floors and everything I do is within blocks of it. Work is only five blocks away. I usually walk to work unless the weather is bad or it’s cold and then I call a cab. I have no need for a car, usually get a rental if I plan on going home for holidays. My one bedroom one bath with an eat in kitchen is the perfect size for me. My living room has a comfy couch with a small view of the street and other buildings. There is also a small nook area by the kitchen that I use for storage mostly.

After work and sometimes before work, I go to the gym that’s two blocks away. It is not too big, and you know most of everyone that goes there. Then after the gym it’s a ritual to stop at the coffee shop across the street. My favorite is their Mocha Frappe.

I’ve been on a few dates since moving here over a year ago, but nothing has really worked out. The girls at work, Shelby and Amy like to try to set me up all the time. One date with a man named Frank was alright, he talked too much, I felt like the entire dinner was listening to him go on about his career as a financial analysis without me getting a word in. Another date with Dave was nice, he was nice and we seemed to hit it off but by the second date he was getting too serious, wanted an instant relationship and talked about the future, family, where he wanted to live and other things that I didn’t really want any part of right now. He was a hard one to let go. Always calling, stopping by my work and sending me love letters or wanting to go to lunch or dinner. After a while of putting him off the calls finally stopped.

“Hi Shelby, how are you today?”

“Hi Becca, great. We have a full house.” Shelby said.

Friends and family call me Becca.

“There’s a nice-looking man in the waiting room. You should get his number.” Amy walked in and said.

“Sure Amy, I’m not about to start asking patients out on a date night.”

“Why not. Maybe he will ask you?”

We laughed and went on about our morning. Lunch was coming up, we decided to visit the restaurant across the street. We go there a lot since it’s so close, the food is amazing. I usually order the steak and cheese sandwich with french fries or onion rings. Shelby is one of those healthy eaters always pushing a salad on me. Occasionally I will give in and have a salad to appease her.

“You should try those dating apps online. My sister did it and that’s how she found her husband. They have been married for 4 years now.” Amy said.

“That’s like constant blind dates.” I said.

“Yes, but you can’t keep waiting for the right guy to bump into you on the sidewalk, it’s not going to happen. You need to get out there and mingle.” Shelby pointed out.

“I don’t think I would be comfortable meeting with strangers.” I said.

“You wouldn’t be. They have profiles and things about them on the sites, you would only choose who you wanted that looks appealing. Not just meet them blindly. You talk to them first and get to know them a little.” Amy laughed.

“Well I suppose I could try and see what happens.” I laughed along.

“What ever happened to Dave? He was really into you.” Shelby asked.

“Yeah, too into me. He was getting serious way too fast.”

“Wow, it was only two dates and a lunch if I remember right.” Amy said.

“Yes, he was a nice guy but not what I wanted.” I said.

After lunch we went back to work and spent the day talking about the dating apps. Shelby pulled a few up on the computer and we looked at them. She helped me set up a couple profiles, took a good picture and we got going with it. I do like the photos, my blonde hair and blue eyes stood out.

Rebecca Jennings

Dental Assistant.

I frequent the gym and like to eat out. I also enjoy cozy nights in watching movies and relaxing.

That was my intro description. At least we didn’t have to put too much personal information on them. I hope the eating out part doesn’t scare anyone away, but I truly don’t cook much just being myself. Maybe if I was dating or had a man in my life I would cook more and stay in. At work I had a few dings on my phone, it was from the dating apps, profile likes and a few messages. Tonight, after work I will look. I don’t want the girls trying to talk me into a date I may not want to go on.
