Chapter 1
It looked like a shell, half buried, but as she dug through the sand around its edges, she found it was something completely different, something she'd never seen before and thought only existed in stories. She had to be imagining it simply couldn't be a mermaid scale.
She was always told in story books that it could be good or back luck finding a mermaid scale, depending on how they lost it that is. She's always been obsessed with anything that deals with mermaids. To the ocean, fish, sea shells, and anything that story books say that mermaids love or talk to. She left the seashore and went back home. She came back the very next day hoping for something out of the ordinary, and that's exactly what she got. She thought this was the best day of her life.
She couldn't believe her eyes, and she didn't at first. She couldn't believe what it was at first until she got into the water. Whatever it was sensed her somehow or another and slowly moved away from her every time she tried to get a closer look. Whatever it could've been was extremely shiny or sparkly, but that also could've been the water.
She didn't know exactly what it was, but it intrigued her nonetheless. She also had a few wild guesses of what it could've been. She let her imagination take hold of her of what she thought it was. She kept moving closer, and then the object finally stopped moving. That's when she got a good look at what was in the water. She noticed that her imagination finally paid off. She couldn't believe her eyes. She thought they only existed in fairy tales. She never thought she'd ever ever see one before especially in person.
The mermaid was absolutely stunning, as she always expected them to be. As she reached out her hand to touch the mermaid, the mermaid motioned to the water around her. She guessed the mermaid was trying to tell her something. After a few minutes she realized the mermaid meant she couldn't leave the water nor could she touch her.
She nodded at the mermaid and went to look for something big enough to carry the mermaid in for a short period of time. When she finally found something and came back the mermaid was gone. Everyday she came back to the ocean and it was the same thing, no sign of the mermaid. She thought she had dreamed it all until one day the girl saw the mermaid and decided to make a choice. She was going to live out her childhood dream.
She went up to the mermaid and motioned toward the water around the mermaid. The mermaid was confused yet intrigued, to say the least, what the human girl wanted from her. The girl then pointed at the mermaids tail and at her own legs. The mermaid then understood what the human girl meant and wanted.
The mermaid then swam circles around the girl's legs. There was a sudden simmering bright light. When it finally disappeared the girl fell into the water. She smiled and flapped her own mermaid tale in the water with much glee. The mermaid motioned for the girl to follow her. The girl didn't know where the mermaid wanted to show her, but she obviously followed with complete trust of the mermaid.
They both spent what felt like forever together. They meant everything to the other now. The girl could still go on land, since she's only half mermaid. The mermaid had to wait in the shore since she couldn't go on land with the human girl even though she longed to be on land her entire life.
