Chapter 1

“Mom?” I called downstairs wondering if she was still home.

“Yes Clara.” She answered.

“Can we do something today?” I asked.

“Honey, you know that you and Isaac are going to find a house.” She responded.

“I know, I’m saying after that.” I laughed to myself and started my day.

I’m now 24 years old and I have been living with my Mom. She moved to Texas with me after I saw her in California. I have been with Isaac now for 8 years. We are finally going to move in together on the other side of town.

“Sure, what do you want to do?” She asked, she apparently was in my room because I could hear her a lot better.

“I don’t have any idea.” I poked my head out the doorway of my bathroom in hopes of seeing Mom, she was sitting on my bed.

She had beautiful, long brown hair and stunning green eyes. She was tall and worked as a teacher, she had lived in California for her whole life, but when I had been left out for adoption that’s when she became depressed. She searched for me for days on end, not stopping. She didn’t find me of course because I was in Texas.

I have been out of college for 6 years, I studied to be a video editor and an editor in general. I have started my own business and so far I have had a lot of success.

But yeah like my mom said Isaac and I are going to find a house today. He has been living with his parents since we got out of college and finally he decided to move in with me.

I left the house and went to meet Isaac at his house.

“Hi.” I walked in and shut the door.

“Hey Clara.” He responded from the back room, “I’ll be out in a few minutes.”

“Okay, take your time.” I sat down on the couch and grabbed my phone. I had one text from my adoptive Mom.

I was still not really talking to her but she texted me everyday wanting me to come ‘home’.

This text was not a lot different than the others.

Clara, please come back home, we miss you very much. Rose wants to see you and so do I……..

Yep that was basically every single text she sent me, all I responded with was….

Sorry not sorry doing stuff today.

God sometimes I don’t get her. Like I’m doing stuff I have my own life, can’t you see that!?

Isaac walked out of the kitchen with a plate of pancakes and strawberries.

“Hi, would you like a pancake?” He asked, he came over to me and kissed my head.

“Oooo yes please, how did you know I was hungry?” I said laughing.

“Well let’s see, you always carry food with you and also you are always hungry, sooooooo.” He said, eyeing me.

“Okay okay you are right.” I said giving up.

We ate our pancakes and got into his car. We were going to meet our realtor. His name is Josh and I have known him since I was a baby. He is a family friend.

“Hi Josh!” I said stepping out of the car.

“Hey Clara, hi Isaac.” He said.

The first house that he showed us was beautiful.

It was a two story house with 4 bedrooms and 3 and half bathrooms. It was a big open space with a large backyard. It has huge windows and a large kitchen. It was just below our price limit which is amazing.

“This is awesome.” I said standing on the porch outside.

“Yes it is and it is below our price range.” Isaac agreed.

The next house that we saw was just above our price range. It was the prettiest neighborhood with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It had a basement which is very very unlikely in Texas. It is super nice and it has a HUGE living room which would be perfect for entertaining.

I love both of them, but the first one may be the best, we just have to talk about it. I walked out of the house and sat on the porch. I had so much running through my mind the house was just another part that made me crazy.

We got in the car and went back home. “Isaac?” I asked my thoughts running.

“Yes babe.” He said.

“Which house do you like best?” I asked.

“I don’t know hun. I like both, which do you like best?”

“Well.” I paused, taking a deep breath. “I really like the first one. It just seems to fit us way better than the second one. I love the big windows and the huge backyard, you know that I want a dog.”

“Yep, that is the one that I was leaning towards too,” He said, pausing slightly. “Should we make an offer?”

“Yes I think that we should.” I said smiling, overall we have seen about 12 houses in the past 2 weeks and we liked all of them though this one is the one that really struck us as home.

Isaac dropped me at home. “Bye!” I got out of the car and he walked me to the front porch.

“Bye.” He kissed me on the head, “Love you.”

“Love you too.” I turned around and headed inside.
